If you look it up on Wikipedia, you'll see it's also been used in doorbells, over PA systems as a notification, and also (obviously) clocks. I think there's a few other famous sequences woven into this video, but they aren't as ubiquitous, so I'm not going to try and figure out where they came from. :p
