@InnerFidelity are these headphones better than beats pro?? i can get them for 150 dlls from my causin, but i dont know which one has better sound quality
@abrahamon60 Yes, but that would be a poor comparison, since the K701 has a very different sound from the beats pro. Still, with an amp backing it up, and maybe a notch or two on the bass booster, it's a fine headphone.
@yousellouts This is an open back headphone. In other words, leakage isn't a good word to use here since the headphone was designed to let out sound, to simplify acoustic design.
Hello, nice review, seems to correspond quite well with what other reviewers say about this headphone. I'm looking for a balanced bass-neutral headphone in this price-range and I'm in doubt between the Beyer DT880 and these.
What would you recommend for listening to 80s heavy metal music and acoustic music mostly? (And a bit of emulated binaural headphone surround gaming :) )
@kazaakas Well, the 701 bass is a bit less than neutral. Has a huge soundstage. The DT880 soundstage is less impressive, but has a bit more bass than the old 701. I think the beyer would also work well here with your taste.
What are The best headphones for clear voice do I can hear them breath and possibly swollow as im a Michael Jackson fan and would love some great headphones to hear him I currently have The in ear diddy beats for £120 and there ok but I Want more from my headphones
thx a lot for this. but, which one would u recommend to buy? i want a balanced/flat headphone. which one should i choose? q 701 / k 701 / k702? thx a lot :)
@taigila They're essentially the same can, sans detachable cable and pads. For neutrality, I thought the Senn HD 600 had the best balance at this price range.
@taigila If you're getting new models, then Q701 / K701 and K702 are identical in terms of sound, they're all very flat in frequency response, maybe too flat, maybe too analytical. Great for mixing, mastering in studio because they play everything exactly as it is, maybe a bit too "boring" for listening to music. Generally, flat headphones are boring, colored headphones are fun to listen to. It depends on what you want.
soo i want some good affordable attractive headphones, i listen to rap/hip hop and country i like bass but not too much bass. i need some ideas on what to get. i really dont want beats way to many people have them. and i like to kind of stay out of the ordinary. Any suggestions would be great! thank you in advance
I'm not sure why I haven't seen these before, but I'm really loving the green and it's really making me want a headphone that I already knew was great. Going to have to sell a pair if I want to add these to my collection...
The Q701 is closer to the K702 rather than the K701, isn't it? I thought the key differences between the K701 and 702 were the permanent/detachable cable and colors.
Hi, I am looking for some good heaphones with crisp clean sound and really REALLY good bass. I would also like them to look nice in the price range of 300-500$ and portable because ill be listening to them on the go and stuff. O and they have to be over the hear Not on the ear.. Any ideas?
@aeriescannonfodder in my country they are 2200 kunas...thats around 400 $ for you.. And the 25 hd ii is around 220$...should i buy some oder like akg k480 nc?
@DJHiso The 701 wins the studio battle by a big margin, but look into the Denon D2000 and Beyerdynamic DT880 for this role. If you need one can to do both DJ and production, I'd try the Beyerdynamic DT1350.
@4ndomestic I think your best option is the Beyer DT880. It's comfortable with good weight and extension in the bass. The problem with the 701 was always in its its lighter bass presence.
@crni195 Never seen noise cancellation implemented without dragging down quality at the same time. The Sennheiser HD 25-1 II has good isolation and a good sound for ~200.
@InnerFidelity Okay, can i ask you another question? What are the best headphones under $450 with a portable amp? I know the 650's suck without a decent amp.
I've spent so much time to find a decent nice sounding amp (500$ or less) to drive those cans but still looking..any recomendations? Thank you guys in advance..
Hi, I'm looking for a good headphone, collapsible, with good bass, and if possible a removable cable. I mainly listen to hip-hop and rap and some rock. I was looking for something like the akg q460, but circumaural. My budget is around $150 price range.
@Seabass078 This sounds like a good job for the Audio Technica ATH-M50 to do. Folds on the hinges, good bass depth and decent control. Around the ear design and fairly durable, but no detachable cable, not that I know of anyway. Straight and coiled cable options.
@Seabass078 Creative Aurvana Live! Not colapsable, though. For on-ear have a look at the Sennheiser PX 200-II. Fods up like a pair of sunglasses and about the same size; sound is great.
@diplcm they make portable amplifiers such as the FiiO e series or a Digizoid ZO its really small and can power these for a long time if not atleast a full day of useage off one charge
I've been producing electronic music for a while now and i'd really like to get some over-the-ear isolation headphones with a real crisp bass attack. any suggestions?
Sir, if you would be so kind to do a comparison and let me know your thoughts; People have own both q701 and k701 has been reporting noticeable difference between the two headphones, due to foam used and as well as other tuning were done to q701. Thus is why I doubt this is a simple rebrand-recolor.
What headphones would you recommend for home listening on my computer. I want good audiophile headphones. (almost all my music is in lossless format). I haven't upgraded my MacBook Pro 13" sound card, and I want to know if I should and if so which sound card would be a nice one. I'm looking for a headphone within 400-650 dollars.
Never compare this headphones to beats Audio, because Beats Audio is nothing more than an overpriced set of mediocre quality headshells with the Dr. Dre stamp on them.

@flomo74 I just bought the Solo. Got rickrolled XD Gonna get these as soon as possible. 1 thing I'm angry of is that these doesn't have a remote on them ...
Are these headphones open on the sides. Can other people hear what i'm listening to? I got the sennheiser 518 and although they are some of the best ones i've ever heard, other people can hear what im listening to.
I hate to do this.. but Beats Studio's are the only over-ear ones i have ever had. I recently broke them and need a new pair. I have checked the V-Moda Crossfade LP2's and tried them, they are pretty good but not exactly what i'm looking for, and before i settle i want to know what i'm doing. I listen to Rock, Reggae, Techno, Acoustic, Jazz, Classical, Rap, R&B, Alternative.. you name it i listen to it.. I need headphones to match what i need, sub $350 is what i'm looking to spend.. Any advice?
Hey, I have Sennheiser HD 598, PXC 450, and akg k702. I am looking for a headphone amp but I don't know what to buy since I have 0 experience with them. Since you are the expert, can you recommend me some headphone amps? Thanks!
Vmoda m80 or these 701's? I love the build quality, look, better portability, and accessories of the m80 but are these better? Also do your ears get hot in them?
@InnerFidelity: DT 1350 isolates little bit more and is more comfortable to wear. But iit's sound is a little bit "dark" in comparision to HD 25-1, which I like more regarding sound. - ** TIAD **
@InnerFidelity i just bought bose quitecomfort 15 and i am very please with it but im looking for something with more bass. ive tried dre beats studio but in my opinon the headphones wasnt balanced. so im wondering what you recommend? im looking to spend up to $400
@PrintHelloWord Source, and amping will make the largest difference in quality. Unless you have a well tuned ear, you won't be noticing any difference in cable quality.
I just bought AKG K142HD last night, it is kind of okay, but my ear is pretty much uncomfortable because my ears are quite big and K142HD is small to fit it.
I couldnt find any store that I can try AKG q701 in Canada, Does Q701 have bigger hall than K142hd?
if u buy AKG's especially k701s or k702s im pretty sure 80% of owners have headphone amps mobile or desktop amps. so the bass I dont think would really be a problem =D
Hi! im really hoping you can find the time to answer me this question because im struggling to find an answer from anyone....
Im producing dubstep which is a bass'y style of music and im looking to buying a pair or k702's so i can check my work, i know these have flat bass response so may not be perfect for listening but are good for producing right?
Anyway my question is, i use a new high end macbook pro, will i need to buy a headphone amp? i use a pretty decent external soundcard...
@1lastsoldier I have the fiio e11 and it powers my q701s flawlessly. Im sure there are better quality amp out there but the fiio e11 is an excellent choice amp. Big plus for the e11 is that it uses a nokia style battery so you could get extra batteries to use with this amp, also you cant use the amp while its charging so. I know you asked about the e9 but i hope my opinion of the e11 helps in some way.
@enabled2k thanks, I was considering the e11 as well. Does the e11 have a port for 6.3 mm jacks? I'm considering the e11 and e10 combo vs the e7 and e9, any thoughts?
@InnerFidelity Would you say that the soundstage and instrument separation is better on the K701? Also how "lean" do you mean? Is it comparable to HD 598's bass? I'm trying to see if I like the bass because I like the tight bass of HD 598. Additionally I noticed differences in the freq. response between Q701, K701 and K702, with the K701 with more emphasized mids. Care to explain this?
@omnigodx11 the q701 definitly sounds better than the hd 598 before burn-in. i returned my 598's for q701's before they were burned in at all. the q701 also has a better cord.
good review but i'm still greatly disappointed in AKG for discontinuing some of their most legendary headphones. the 240DF's was their best work for studio headphones and makes headphones like the hd800's seem overpriced for how precise and accurate AKG made them right next to their K1000 and K501 of headphones. even my older K240 sextett LP's i have is very impressive and better then the current studio offerings AKG has out in my opinion. i wish AKG atleast bring the 240DF's back.
@nmarkus666 I know. When ever I'm watching a vid and I am looking at comments, someone says,"O get beats they're the best!" That disgusts me, they're not that good.
Beats just sound good. But they are the most beautiful and fashionable headphones. So if your looking for headphones with great sound quality and don't mind how it looks, then get the M50s.
@derbigpr500 idk ;D but u got akg q701? cus i wanna buy but i dont got a amp and i was wondering if theyre worth buying without an amp. becouse people tell u cant drive them to as respectable volume etc so what is a respectable volume? cus i like really high sound but not too high or does the amp affect the sound quality very much please respond.
I'm looking for a pair of headphones detailed and clear enough for classical music and opera listening out of the computer or iPod. Is there anything you could recommend?
After burn in, how does the Q701 compare to the DT880 600ohm? You have a preference between the two, and do you still simply go for the HD650 over them? The measurements seem to give the edge to the Q701 of the three, except for the HD650 being tamer in the highs.
@Reticuli Most people on head-fi forums tend to prefer Q701 to HD650, because they sound more opened and brighter, even though HD650 sound more realistic imho. They sound more like speakers, without overly bright treble and too weak bass, although most people people would call them dark sounding.
@saberallen5 Beats headphones suck, they only are good for rn b and rap and such music, shitty for trance rock and classic music, BEATS HEADPHONES ARE NOT WORTH THE PRICE!! It's only cuz of the name they so popular
@PKaddicted i never said they were the best headphones, i was telling someone else, that beats are good headphones if u want, bass, now shut the fuck up, acting all so smart just because you realize that beats suck, everyone knows that, but they're still a lot better than average and emphasize, bass. just shut up sometimes.
@InnerFidelity What amplifiers do you suggest when using these? I do a lot of guitar recording but I would like to use these outside of the studio as well.
did you try the denon ah7000 ?

dillaman1986 2 months ago
@dillaman1986 Sennheiser HD 25-1 II
InnerFidelity 2 months ago 6
@InnerFidelity: DT 1350 isolates little bit more and is more comfortable to wear. But iit's sound is a little bit "dark" in comparision to HD 25-1, which I like more regarding sound. - ** TIAD **

@PrintHelloWord Probably not.

@InnerFidelity i just bought bose quitecomfort 15 and i am very please with it but im looking for something with more bass. ive tried dre beats studio but in my opinon the headphones wasnt balanced. so im wondering what you recommend? im looking to spend up to $400
iZeusPdx 2 months ago
@PrintHelloWord Source, and amping will make the largest difference in quality. Unless you have a well tuned ear, you won't be noticing any difference in cable quality.

I have question..
I just bought AKG K142HD last night, it is kind of okay, but my ear is pretty much uncomfortable because my ears are quite big and K142HD is small to fit it.
I couldnt find any store that I can try AKG q701 in Canada, Does Q701 have bigger hall than K142hd?
TaeH82 3 months ago
@trancifiery beats aren't even in the same league.

can I wear these with glasses without much irritation and pressure to them?
yopeople70 3 months ago
@yopeople70 yes, you can. i am now, and i've been wearing them for about 8 hours.
jp66669 3 months ago
YAA!! Some real headphones =D
if u buy AKG's especially k701s or k702s im pretty sure 80% of owners have headphone amps mobile or desktop amps. so the bass I dont think would really be a problem =D
darkarsenal 3 months ago
Hi! im really hoping you can find the time to answer me this question because im struggling to find an answer from anyone....

@55stevieboy2010 I'd go for the SHure SRH840, Denon AH-D2000 or Audio Technica ATH-M50

BTW your videos are awesome and very informative.

do you think the fiio e9 will be enough to power these?
1lastsoldier 4 months ago
@1lastsoldier I have the fiio e11 and it powers my q701s flawlessly. Im sure there are better quality amp out there but the fiio e11 is an excellent choice amp. Big plus for the e11 is that it uses a nokia style battery so you could get extra batteries to use with this amp, also you cant use the amp while its charging so. I know you asked about the e9 but i hope my opinion of the e11 helps in some way.
enabled2k 4 months ago
@enabled2k thanks, I was considering the e11 as well. Does the e11 have a port for 6.3 mm jacks? I'm considering the e11 and e10 combo vs the e7 and e9, any thoughts?
1lastsoldier 4 months ago
@1lastsoldier the q701 has 3.5mm jacks on it with screw on 6.3mm adapter, pretty cool actually. The e11 has 3.5mm plugs. Hope that helps :]

How would those compare to HD600 and HD650? :)
tabeikou 4 months ago
@tabeikou I like the warmer, smoother sound of the 600 and 650. The Q701 can be a bit lean in the bass.
InnerFidelity 4 months ago
@InnerFidelity Would you say that the soundstage and instrument separation is better on the K701? Also how "lean" do you mean? Is it comparable to HD 598's bass? I'm trying to see if I like the bass because I like the tight bass of HD 598. Additionally I noticed differences in the freq. response between Q701, K701 and K702, with the K701 with more emphasized mids. Care to explain this?
omnigodx11 3 months ago
@omnigodx11 the q701 definitly sounds better than the hd 598 before burn-in. i returned my 598's for q701's before they were burned in at all. the q701 also has a better cord.

can you tell me what is the name of this product the top model ???
queenkomixi 4 months ago
good review but i'm still greatly disappointed in AKG for discontinuing some of their most legendary headphones. the 240DF's was their best work for studio headphones and makes headphones like the hd800's seem overpriced for how precise and accurate AKG made them right next to their K1000 and K501 of headphones. even my older K240 sextett LP's i have is very impressive and better then the current studio offerings AKG has out in my opinion. i wish AKG atleast bring the 240DF's back.

nmarkus666 4 months ago 14
@nmarkus666 I know. When ever I'm watching a vid and I am looking at comments, someone says,"O get beats they're the best!" That disgusts me, they're not that good.

Hey great review. I am thinking of buying the AKG 702 or Audio-Technica ATH M50 which one would you recommend? :)
davitsk1 4 months ago
Beats just sound good. But they are the most beautiful and fashionable headphones. So if your looking for headphones with great sound quality and don't mind how it looks, then get the M50s.

derbigpr500 5 months ago
@derbigpr500 idk ;D but u got akg q701? cus i wanna buy but i dont got a amp and i was wondering if theyre worth buying without an amp. becouse people tell u cant drive them to as respectable volume etc so what is a respectable volume? cus i like really high sound but not too high or does the amp affect the sound quality very much please respond.
qnoobcakep 5 months ago
@qnoobcakep Yes amp affects sound quality very much, but even without an amp, they're gonna sound better than beats.

I'm looking for a pair of headphones detailed and clear enough for classical music and opera listening out of the computer or iPod. Is there anything you could recommend?
tneprescintr 5 months ago
After burn in, how does the Q701 compare to the DT880 600ohm? You have a preference between the two, and do you still simply go for the HD650 over them? The measurements seem to give the edge to the Q701 of the three, except for the HD650 being tamer in the highs.
Reticuli 5 months ago
@Reticuli Most people on head-fi forums tend to prefer Q701 to HD650, because they sound more opened and brighter, even though HD650 sound more realistic imho. They sound more like speakers, without overly bright treble and too weak bass, although most people people would call them dark sounding.

@saberallen5 Beats headphones suck, they only are good for rn b and rap and such music, shitty for trance rock and classic music, BEATS HEADPHONES ARE NOT WORTH THE PRICE!! It's only cuz of the name they so popular
PKaddicted 5 months ago 2
@PKaddicted i never said they were the best headphones, i was telling someone else, that beats are good headphones if u want, bass, now shut the fuck up, acting all so smart just because you realize that beats suck, everyone knows that, but they're still a lot better than average and emphasize, bass. just shut up sometimes.

@saberallen5 lmao i got tours and studio's already....kinda over the beats trademark now.
i need something thats worth the money
