THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU!!!! I completely understand you!!!

I was freaking out when I saw some Princess TuTu skits where it was obvious that the cosplayers had pointe shoes and didn't know how to do ballet!!

I've been doing ballet for almost 10 years and I was yelling at my computer when I saw them because I was afraid they'd break their freaking ankles!!! O_O

  • It's not only the way these cosplayers stand on pointe, it's the way they carry themselves, the posture, the arms. One look and ballet dancers can tell. =)

  • I totally agree with you! acurracy is important so people who dont know ballet shouldent dance it, they can wear the shoes but its dangerous to dance if you dont know, and fat people should not cosplay as princess tutu even if they do know ballet, so ill follow your advice and never wear ballet shoes cause I dont know how to dance, so you should follow mine and never do a princess tutu cosplay because of the extra pounds your carring around

  • @mondphasen - Little too late considering I already did the cosplay quite successfully, thanks. And I love how you think you can tell my size by just my face and when I'm wearing a sweatshirt. If I'm fat then I'd hate to see what you think anorexic or obese looks like. Believe it or not I've known some fantastic overweight dancers, although the heavier you are the more likely you'll be injured en pointe. I, myself, am at a healthy weight, so don't worry about it. ;)

  • THANK YOU, RIKKU!

I'm so happy you made this video! I'm still considering whether doing Princess Tutu or not, because after years, I'm still not en pointe yet. (And like you, I like to choose accuracy over comfort). But people! Pointe shoes: so many friends of mine have been on them for years and they STILL hurt themselves. Snapping anything in your foot is too easy, especially if you're not trained. You'll come home from a con with bloody feet and blisters.

  • OMG! FINALLY SOMEONE IS SAYING THIS OTHER THAN ME! Thank you so much for putting this on here,

  • I don't know why anyone would want to wear those things to a con. lol Those hurt :/ That would be a bad idea & even worse if you have no clue as to what you are doing... You should be in a dance class before you try & that will take sometime in order to get to that point where you can wear them. I've seen those pictures of people cosplaying as princess tutu... I was thinking somebody is going to get hurt..

  • I LOVE YOU FOR POSTING THIS VIDEO. I saw several videos that did cosplays of Princess Tutu, and I cringed. I started taking pointe just a few weeks ago and have been dancing ballet for almost 10 years since the age of 3, and I CRINGED at those cosplays. One girl did a leap OFF of pointe instead of plieing (SP?) on flat-foot, and LANDED on pointe, and I was just like "... Dear God she's gonna break something." I might cosplay PT at a con and be one of the few people who knows what they're doing.

  • About your pointe shoe size, if I'm not mistaken the 6 is the length, the XXX is the width, and the SS is saying that your shank is "super- soft".

  • So true, people who don't know how to use them should not use pointe. I'm a ballet dancer and I ve been doing pointe since 6 years and I must admit that when I see Tutus or Kraehes who are not dancers, trying to stand on pointes...it's ugly. Really. In France (i'm french) two girls cosplayed Tutu and stood on pointe and it was UGLY. Sorry for them. But it's really dangerous, they could sprain their ankle...I'll cosplay as Kraehe at Japan Expo 2011 and I'll try to do her JUSTICE. At least.

  • Thank you so much for putting this out there!!!! I'm not a dancer but my friend is, when I told her I was going to cosplay as krahe she had already told me to never go on point because I have no expirence I wasnt going to anyways but just knowing from different people that if I did I would be in pain is good to know!

  • if shes wearing pointes, it shouldnt matter as long as she doesnt go up on full pointe. she should be able to wear them for the hell of it.

  • @kmaelan112 That is not entirely true. Though staying flat wouldn't hurt as bad, pointe shoes squeeze your toes together to support them so they won't buckle and break.

  • And for those who criticise, it's not a matter of dancers thinking they are better, it's really childish to think that. It's because it REALLY is dangerous. Whe have professionals, dance teachers, doctors and even the people who sell these shoes saying that you should only go en pointe with the assistance of a professional teacher. And even having strength and flexibility on your ankle, you still have the risk of injuring your foot if you don't have the right technique.

  • I think you are totally right.

But I think that, if these girls don't go en pointe, there's no problem! Some of them even de-shank the shoes, to be more confortable.

Nevertheless, I agree with you, because many girls are curious of how it is to go en pointe, and once they have a pointe shoe on hand, it can be difficult to resist the temptation.

  • I have seen these cosplayers and you are so right about tying the shoes. It is obvious they don't know how to dance or have not been trained for pointe shoes by their posing and by how much you can see their shoes are done wrong. I start basic training for pointe soon. I am getting my ballerina friend to help me and will be taking technique classes at school as usual. My friend has agreed to teach me how to go up on pointe for a pose and nothing more! It should be fun and a lot of hard work

  • @Cosplayers101 I have spent three years preparing my feet and working on my dancing ability... the next step is learning poiunte for simple photos at a photoshoot not at a con.

  • i don't like being a troll, but on this occasion, you are what me and my friends would refer to as a "stage school girl". everybody is useless at everything to do with ballet apart from you people, and i agree with what you are saying about people with no clure having a go on pointes, i cringe at some of the videos on youtube, and if someone has no experience in ballet in a pic of corse you would notice and point it out because youare "perfect" and they are not. i know what u are TRYING tosay.

  • @MissMansonThe2nd - woah, no, you do not know what I'm trying to say. I made this video to inform people how dangerous it is to use pointe shoes when ur inexperienced. I'm sure there are plenty of people out there MUCH more talented than me who could do a better job explaining this than I did. I am FAR from what you think I am, far from "perfect". I'm using what I know to help others, not make myself look better. Do me a favor, and don't assume things about me when you don't even know me. Thanks

  • @MissMansonThe2nd - and one last thing I just realized after visiting ur channel, I'm a former goth and sometimes still dress that way. you and I are a lot more alike than you think. tata

  • @xExorcist0Rikkux im not talking about what you are wearing, i'm talking about what you are saying. may the goth be with you x x x tata.

  • @MissMansonThe2nd - well, I understand that, and ur wrong. I'm not whatever u wanna call it and would appreciate it if u didn't accuse me. thanks

  • @MissMansonThe2nd No it is called doing what is right... I myself was going to make one of these videos and I have no pointe or professional ballet experience. I study the science of it and these girls who cosplay Princess Tutu worry me.

  • true thumbs up!!

  • You are so right! I don't do ballet I'm a tap person, but one day our teacher never showed up and we got put into a ballet class. Even on tip toes it hurts. and even the more experienced ballet dancers complain sometimes that the pointe shoes hurt them. So I think you are a life saver to people who want to cosplay as Princess Tutu and still keep all their toes in one piece ^_^ Thank you. x x x x

  • i totally agree with you! people dont realize the danger. Even if you're expierenced you still get hurt! i'm 18 and have danced for 5 years and i got hurt a few months ago.

  • i totally agree with this video. im taking ballet not only for the experiance, but if i decide to does a cosplay. and if i do a princess tutu cosplay and have not achevied pointe i promise on my heart that i will not wear pointe shoe unless told other wise. :)

  • I cosplayed Princess Kraehe and its totally killer on your feet wearing pointe shoes even though I have pointe experience

  • Comment removed

  • i completely agree! i am a ballet dancer my self, in fact i was studying to become professional and dance in moscow until an accident in rehersal when my partner dropped me accidentaly and i landed wrong on pointe and broke my ankle. Girls this is really serious! i lost my dream because of simple accident and in training and i actually knew whai i was doing. you could really be hurt if you dont

  • the way i see it your totally right people should not use pointe shoes if they do stupid things. BUT you should not get on peoples cases about if unless they are doing something stupid, like jumping around. if it is just a cosplayer standing on her toes for a few seconds to achieve that perfect shot she has longed for turn the other way if you dont want to see it.

didnt your mother ever teach you if you have nothing nice to say don't say it at all

  • @JRockerKozi - uh, yes, she did. i believe what i said WAS nice, and i don't think you understand. it takes practice to just stand in pointe shoes correctly. plus you need form that has to be taught by a ballet teacher. it took me a year to get strong enough so i wouldn't slip anymore and get that muscle memory. so it's dangerous for an untrained cosplayer to stand en pointe cuz they could damage their feet permanently. i don't want anyone to get hurt just cuz they wanted to portray a character

  • @JRockerKozi ^^I see your point, but I dance en pointe and have seen many people hurt themselfs that have been taken classes for a long time(vs. someone with no exsperiance). Also it takes less than 1/2 a second for somone to break there ankle or sickle over, and I dont think she was being rude but conserned.

  • I agree completly!!! You are totally right to be worried. No one should ever go en pointe without the permition of a qualified dancer teacher!! I mean it! No one! I intend on doing princess tutu and I do take ballet classes since forever, so I have the muscles of my leg and my entire body prepared for pointe shoes. But does who doesn't don't even think of it. It can be really dangerous!

  • AMEN! its so freakin scary the amoutn of ppl that are doing this or randomly trying pointe w/o ANY ballet instruction.... a part of me kinda wants them to do it so they DO get hurt and LEARN THE HARD WAY lol...but i think thats just cuz im evil.... =/

  • I dance balley eight hours at week, and Im going to wear point shoes to my cosplay. And I agree, if you are not a dance, you must be very careful with point shoes! I am taking a month where I go too only point toe lessons, so I am 100 % ready for it.

  • what is your cosplay username

  • @girl20008 - it's never-thinks :)

  • just to note...pointe shoes aren't made out of wood, there made out of fabric and glue layerd many times....i 've done pointe for almost 15 years

  • Oh how I miss ballet! It's been like....6 or 7 years since I had to stop. I am planing a Kraehe cosplay, but I don't think I will use pointe shoes even if I could somehow train myself to use them again. They cost a lot too.

  • I also think that for me people who are wearing pointe just for a cosplay makes me feel sad. To me they are special so should be kept that way. Cosplay is special as well but, I feel like it's taking that feeling away by wearing them just for a costume. If you don't do pointe or dance don't wear them. There are ways to make do and are way more comfortable for your feet and less dangerous.

  • I'm so glad you made this video! I'm an experienced ballerina, also a Princess Tutu cosplayer. It always scares me when I see inexperienced girls go up on pointe. So. Two alternative options for accurate shoes for PT:

    1. Use ribbon from pointe shoes with ballet flats. (This is what I do)

    2. Wear pointe shoes, but don't go up on pointe if you don't know what you're doing.

  • yea i've been taking ballet and pointe for a looooong time so at least i don't look like a dope...im thinking of taking classes at nyc ballet since i live in the city :D wish me luck :D ballet is like my soul passion cuz i was like the only one who had expression in my class..the others looked like robots honestly but yea that rant should hopefully end ppl who cosplay ballet characters when THEY CANT DANCE BALLET...srsly u cud hurt yourself -___-

  • I'm glade that you made this video. I've danced since I can remember and whenever I've seen girls on pointe who've obviously never stepped foot in a studio I cringe. I've broken my toes and sprained my angle (from other things like gymnastics) and I feel the pain coming back when I imagine them slipping up and hurting themselves.

  • ... I don't mean to be rude, but, Pointe shoes do not contain wood. This is a common misconception. The box is typically constructed from layers of thick fabric and glue.

I think this is a really smart thing to be telling people though. ^__^ I've been looking up tons of TuTu cosplays lately, and allot of girls are standing en pointe, that definatly shouldnt be.

I don't do pointe myself, but I am kind of a ballet fanatic, and know allot about it.

Good luck with your costume! XD

  • that was my bad. i know they're made of fabric and glue but i was always told it was wood, so, i make the mistake a lot. thanks for correcting me and thanks for your comment! :)

  • Sure thing. I just figured, if youre doing pointe, you'd probably wan't to know. XD

    You're welcome. ^__^

  • @xExorcist0Rikkux your both right. but more traditional pointe shoes have. (like "famous" people were the most tradition) but i could be wrong. I LOVE POINTE SHOES anyways!

  • I think I saw that video and the whole time I was biting my nails. I was so worried about her. I have extensive training in ballet. One thing Cosplayers may want to try in order to substitute for pointe shoes are demi pointe shoes. They have a box but dont allow you to go on pointe. They are safer and carry the look of a pointe shoe.

  • THANK YOU!

I've taken ballet my whole life and I can tell when some cosplayers are going on pointe when they should not be.

It's bad for your feet if they're not at that strength and without the right technique you will be injured sooner or later. If you want the look of pointe shoes, get pre-pointe shoes.

Pre-pointes are used to practice pointe techinique but should NEVER be used to go up on your toes.

    THANK YOU SO MUCH

This message NEEDS to get out there.

  • definately welcome hahaha. i just dont like to see injuries

  • Ami{Miku}: Wow thanks alot x.x yew saved me from breaking at toe, Since most ballerinas yew see always have a smile on when there dancing i thought point shoes were more comfy o.o;

Remember that one episode in P.T. when the gurls all got there first point shoes? I know notice there facial expression were all like they were in pain x.x, anywayz gud luck on yewr cosplay :D

  • haha, thank U! the reason ballerinas r always smiling is because the point of the dance is to make it look easy. dance is the one sport where you aren't allowed to show how much effort u put into it and how much it actually hurts :)

  • This.

  • Thank you for making a video about this! I saw another video of a girl cosplaying as Tutu who'd never taken a class doing a short dance en pointe and it scared me to death. While I appreciate cosplayers' need for accuracy, LEAVE POINTE TO BALLERINAS! Sorry, but it's really for your own good. Ballet can be extremely dangerous when you don't know what you're doing, and even when you do there's a ton of injuries that can happen. Okay, I'm done ranting now.

  • i know i have done pointe for...ten years now and i still get really bad injuries

  • I've been extremely fortunate, myself. Although I have been dancing for 13 years and doing pointe for 3, I've never had a serious injury or a problem with my pointe shoes (knock on wood).

  • @fatesosweet i was studying to become professional and dance in moscow until an accident in rehersal when my partner dropped me accidentaly and i landed wrong on pointe and broke my ankle. Girls this is really serious! i lost my dream because of simple accident and in training and i actually knew what i was doing. heres some advice if he drops u DONT LAND ON POINTE!

  • Out of curiousity, what about demi-pointes? I know that they are essentially a pointe shoe without a shank, and they're not meant to be used for pointework. I've looked up images of them, and they're really close in appearence to pointe shoes.

I've also heard of dancers using them like the slippers on stage, just to give the appearence of pointe shoes. Would that make a good substitute, or would it be best to stick with the slippers?

  • ballet slippers are soft with no hard bits you can't go on pointe with them. demi-pointe is means half pointe (you probably knew that) but it means standing on the ball of your foot rather than on the tip of the toe. dancers use slippers when they are playing a role as a young character. Or the dance they are doing doesn't require them to stand on pointe. I hope this was a little bit helpful and didn't confuse the hell ot of you.

  • Nah, I understood it. :P

I just wonder if they would be a good substitute for pointe shoes in terms of looks, in the case of a Princess Tutu cosplay? I have a pair, and they look almost exactly like pointe shoes, but they're as comfortable as ballet slippers.

Not that I'm saying people should use them to stand en pointe(that's a death wish right there, I bet), I'm just saying that cosplayers might be abe to use them for their looks and pose on demi-pointe instead.

  • sorry i didn't reply sooner. i don't know much about demi pointes but if you have a pair and aren't going en pointe in them, i say go for it! for all other cosplayers, it's the same deal with pointe shoes. if u don't have 'em and you've never taken ballet, don't wear 'em

  • They would make a great substitute for pointe shoes in terms of looks!

  • there is a difference between demi point and a demi-pointe shoe. I dont know if that was causing any confusion. You can find them in dance stores or online. Google demi pointe shoes.

  • Demi-pointes are basically used for dancers who are training to go on pointe to get used to haveing the box around their foot. There are some videos of young ballerinas in the kirov using them. If you are comfortable in them use them. but dont go en pointe that is an accident garunteed. But they are a nice substitute.

  • Oh well, it may be expensive...but if they have more money than sense, let them, they may learn when they're in the hospital.

  • Too true! And pointe shoes are way too pricey to spend on something like that, especially when it will only end in sore feet or broken ankles! That will just ruin the fun. May i suggest that you sew ribbons onto flat ballet slippers to get the more accurate look, without the danger or pain?

  • That's a great suggestion! I would actually sew ribbons into my shoes so i could change into them (although they'd look a little odd in class, haha). And I forgot to mention how expensive pointe shoes are. Mine were at least $40. Thanks for ur comment! :)
