If there was any doubt; This one song alone for me proves beyond a shadow of a doubt that Ella was and is the best that ever was. No exaggeration...I get chills everytime I hear this version.
In my opinion this is the best album by Ella. Of course its because of Basie and I think Quincy Jones(! ) who was a producer. All of them contributed this masterpiece of sound. I am looking for "Honeysuckle Rose" from this album. Its the best version of that song ever. Any response???
@toddush While this is definitely one of her best, the Johnny Mercer Songbook, Ella at Duke's Place, Ella at the Opera House and Ella in Rome are also excellent. All of the recordings demonstrate her charm as well as her vocal prowess. Her duets with Armstrong and Pass are also worth the listen. The great chemistry between the artists only adds to quality of music. The Ella Fitzgerald: Duets in Hannover 1975 DVD (with Joe Pass) is a gem.

@Swiftclaw123 I'm sure that there are *many* instrumental versions of this tune... but I wouldn't have thought you'd find an instrumental version on an album called "Ella and Basie!" :)
Check Billie Holliday doing this one .....
