@mzitchbay I think it as an experience, think about it in a work situation, if a director sees on e.g. Christian Bales CV, it will say he worked on "The Machinst" and lost e.g 30 kilos, and this will show the director that he will be prepared to endure himself physically and mentally for tasks that are needed for the particular film or films.
