bravo, very fine playing of this venerable classic - it goes well on the harpsichord, as also it goes well on clavichord or organ - nice ornaments, historically informed playing
Agreed--I'm definitely going to start working on this piece, although I feel somewhat guilty for liking it better on this late French Double with buff stop than on clavichord, organ, or even the Renaissance-y sounding Italian I play sometimes. Purest authenticity sometimes just doesn't persuade my auditory sensibilities! Speaking of late French Doubles, I now have two short clips up, just to test the waters a bit.
This is one of the most emotionally moving things I have ever heard. You really do grasp the immense importance of the spaces between the notes, the duration of the notes, and the order in which you strike vertically aligned notes. Such things are the essence of expression on instruments where volume is not variable. Nice finger articulations too, pulling back your fingers towards your palm like Bach was reputed to have done. I've yet to learn to do that unclumsily. This is food for the soul.
