i can understand were people are coming from not wanting to pay a subscription fee, it's understandable. but i personaly would rather play a GOOD MMO for 15 a month were i can sit down and play it for a few hours now and then. then have to go buy a new game every other month for $50-$60 (sometimes more) for me (cuz i have a game to occupy myself with) it's actually quite a bit cheaper. as much as i'd love to agree with you here, i can see the game developers of Star Trek online more than likely taking some heavy cues from certain aspects of gameplay that are present in EVE.

it's pretty inevitable, i mean EVE is basically the only vaguely viable free-roaming space-based MMO out there..... so if the guys over at star trek online want to make the game mechanics usable and successful, they are going to look at their nearest competition and try to improve the formula, right?

well... i'm going to disagree with you on a couple of things:

firsly, EVE was a good idea when it first came out, and admittedly, it's fun for a short while (i've played it, and enjoyed it)....... but there's no two ways about it... EVE is essentially a job that you PAY to do. it's remarkably short of several criteria which constitute a 'fun game'.

this is pretty true of a lot if not all MMOs currently on the market (probably including Star Trek online), but EVE is one of the worst offenders.

Actually Everquest. WoW got the UI system, Quest system and A LOT of aspects from EQ and other MMO's and just perfected it and made it more accessible to people new to MMORPGs. No game grew off WoW and if they did it's probably small things they borrowed.
