it kinda is, its taking other arts and combining them go to gyms i garuntee the local gyms offer mma training were they teach u boxing and muay thai combined and wrestling and ju jitsu combined and show you all the techniques used in mma, their teaching you how do all the stuff in other disciplines but just taking away the individual weakness of them, if you dnt have a base that is your dicipline like me so your wrong

i have been training just MMA with ed west and george roop in tucson az for a year and i have purple belt level ju jitsu and im a good striker, and i have good ground and pound, if you want to be a good mma fighter go to a gym that has mma dont start with a base, u can take ju jitsu or boxing or wrestling or whatever u want with mma but MMA should be ur base
personally i think if you want to get in2 mma u should just start training mma cus if you start with boxing or wrestling or ju jitsu ur weakness will probobly be whatever isnt ur base, its not true with every fighter but alot of standup guys have a hard time when it goes to the ground or ground guys have a hard time transitioning to striking

it kinda is, its taking other arts and combining them go to gyms i garuntee the local gyms offer mma training were they teach u boxing and muay thai combined and wrestling and ju jitsu combined and show you all the techniques used in mma, their teaching you how do all the stuff in other disciplines but just taking away the individual weakness of them, if you dnt have a base that is your dicipline like me so your wrong

my point is not that its better to be a boxer as a base, but that at the beginning of mma people were basically crossing over from jui jitsu and wrestling only... boxing was discounted at the beginning. but as mma has evolved, and ppl learned to sprawl and avoid the ground, it had become very apperent that boxing is a great base to cross over from if u care to do so... does anyone think for a second that if roy jones spent some decent time training sprawls and submissions, that he wouldnt kill?

i have been training just MMA with ed west and george roop in tucson az for a year and i have purple belt level ju jitsu and im a good striker, and i have good ground and pound, if you want to be a good mma fighter go to a gym that has mma dont start with a base, u can take ju jitsu or boxing or wrestling or whatever u want with mma but MMA should be ur base

personally i think if you want to get in2 mma u should just start training mma cus if you start with boxing or wrestling or ju jitsu ur weakness will probobly be whatever isnt ur base, its not true with every fighter but alot of standup guys have a hard time when it goes to the ground or ground guys have a hard time transitioning to striking

I love watching this guy! He is a great and smart fighter. One of the very few MMA fighters with really good stand up, I always assumed he was a boxer but never knew he was a proffesional. Such a good puncher, no need to take them guys down to the ground to damn good on the stand up. He throws his an array of punches not them stupid straights while squared up like most them cheap MMA fighters and he also moves his head!
