A pretty decent 1000hp motor can be built in your garage for $5000 or so these days. Of course the trans will be another $5000, and rear end another $5000.

A low mileage junkyard Chevy LQ4 with arp rod/head studs, cosmetic head gaskets, ls6 intake, and a $500 set of forged pistons will make 1000hp for 100 passes or so, throw a $500 set of eagle rods in and it will last a while longer.

A LSX shortblock with a 2000hp billet Byrant crank, Oliver rods, and Ross pistons would come out at about $15000.
