watching this on my macbook pro 13" with 2.66 ghz and 320 gb hard drive, 4 gb ram. it is a very good choice for portability. it boots up in less than 25 seconds, plays 1080p youtube vids flawlessly, plays left4dead2 on low res pretty well. it also comes with the new iLife software. i would recommend it for anyone who has a budget of about 1700$

it was introduced in 2008, and it was selling only for like a half year as i remember, then they discontinued it, and the regular white macbook came back with the new macbook pro line with the new 13 inch macbook pro, so they just kinda took it to the pro line with some updated specs, for less than what the macbook au used to cost. but the 13" pro is definitely much better i think

I love my macbook aluminum (it comes with the keyboard backlit), I use it for my personal stuff (watching videos, chatting, surfing internet, writing, Editing photos and phone videos), but I own a 4x3 imac (not the widescreen). I use that for video editing purpose (I work as a freelance wedding videomaker).

I don't regret my investment.

I kind of have a feeling that the new ipad is gonna a major failure for apple inc.

The higher end MacBook is the one that came with 2.4 ghz and the backlit keyboard. The base came with 2.0 ghz and no backlit keyboard. This is not a very good test.

actually LOONLAKEPRO is correct the standard unibody metal MacBook, before the pro did have a backlit keyboard, but only on the high spec 2.4Ghz model :D, the basic 2Ghz didn't have that, then Apple made it a standard on the pro line

The Macbook 2.4GHz unibody is the only one with the backlit keyboard and the 2.0GHz one doesn't have it. The 2.4GHz is really fast even though it's discontinued. After that they decided to add the backlit standard on the 13 inch Macbook Pro when it came out in June which I think it was a great decision made by apple and now it's the best selling notebook.

So the Macbook pro is just the newer version of the Macbook aluminum, correct? and there's not much difference between the two except for the GHz, f5, f6, and the firewire and such? Because thee Macbook alu is 300$ cheaper. I was confused for awhile on which was which and why it was called macbook if it looked the exact same as the pro. SO settling with the Macbook alu for cheaper wouldn't make that much of a difference, 'cause I don't use firewire and the SD slot doesn't mean much to me. Thx!

I'm using the Macbook Aluminum and it's awesome, but the newer Macbook Pro what really makes it better is the fact that it has a 60% higher color gamut which makes the screen look even nicer. When I went to the apple store yesterday to check out the Macbook Pro I really noticed the difference in color and how much better it looks compared to this one. The 2 hour extra of battery life is also worth it for longer use.

1000 recharges is not tested! It is achieved under special cirumstances. For example when your at home and you use ist while its plugged in it will charge and drain the battery at the same time which is quite bad for the capacity of the battery.

That happens with any laptop though. And the MacBook Pro optimises the voltage going to each cell of the battery to cause minimal harm.

I can understand why you'd want a removable battery but this lasts longer than most (way longer if you're careful) and when it does get to a small charge, it wouldn't be for a good few years at least anyway, and then you just take it to be changed. Only downside to that for me is that Apple control who sells the batteries.

The boot up time shouldn't be all that different. CPU speed is negligible when timing boot ups. Its the harddrive throughput which matters. Also if they are both reformatted, they should have identical boot up times. This wasn't a very good comparison as clearly the macbook isn't new / reformatted.

the pro has a much better display because it used LCD lights to light up the screen and the screen display it more vibrant but the one on the macbook is good to just not as vibrant and has a different source of light

the pro has a slightly better monitor. 60% more color gamut, which means better color. but you wouldn't notice much in everyday stuff. luckily, my macbook went is for repair right after pro 13" came out and they gave me a new monitor! what luck.
