I travel a lot and from personal experience if people think you are American you get discriminated against. Being a white Canadian i am mistaken for an American quite frequently in foreign country's.

I have even been refused service and told to leave a couple places in Europe (though most of these were bars/pubs) and had to show them my Canadian passport at which point their entire demeanor changed. Even got a few free drinks.
