Controversy creates cash. Suger-sweetening a show about violence. People's hearts still have an attitude. Bring this kind of stuff back and stop trying to think you can innovate. Everything that's released today shows that innovation sometimes is just fail. Blatantly copy whatever they did here and I'm sure it'd be much better than this fuckin' PG-era.
I love these early NWO promos where Hogan essentially half-shoots on everyone. Forgot he mocked Macho for his divorce and not being able to "rise" to the occasion. That's some adult stuff you wouldn't have heard come up even 3 weeks earlier. I will tell you, the "End of Hulkamania" was a moneymaking bonanza waiting to happen and WCW hit it out of the park. Hulkamania went down in absolute flames at Bash at the Beach.
What a great storyline this was and it lasted for a good couple years before it finally started to lose steam. Having Hogan turn heal was one of the best decisions that could have been made.
Shame it got too played out, too many people joining and leaving, nwo black & white vs nwo wolfpac should never have happend. They should have kept it to around 6 or 7 guys, all ex wwf and stuck to that, nobody leaving then joining, leaving then joining etc. Then maybe it wouldnt have got so old so fast
"You know Me, You know who I am, but You don't know why I'm here" "We're taking over! And if You don't like us, then You fans can stick it...Brother!"
Smartest thing Bischoff ever did, was turn Hogan heel--the fans had been wanting to boo him for years. It instantly made Hogan relevant again and the original nWo, before it got so badly watered down and overplayed, electrified the fans. Wrestling was still not only watchable but really exciting. You never knew what was going to happen next. Uncle Eric played the whole thing out too long, and after he and Hogan and Nick Patrick made Sting look so bad later...that was the beginning of the end.
Hahaha More garbage in the ring!! 3 or 4 years of Hollywood Hogan it goes to show he was a one trick pony. I like the red n yellow hogan were he was caring and well liked as a heroic icon brother!!
Those were the days. You never knew who was going to come out or when. Even though the NWO was just Hall& Nash at the beginning and then Hogan they had everyone shitting their pants. LOL
Hogan as a heel in all black was really a momentous event when it happened. It was a perfect role for him: somewhat over-the-hill egomaniac using his connections to stay on top. It mirrored where he was in his life and extended his career as THE headliner for several more years.
This was when Austin was still the ringmaster wasn't it? Heh it's no wonder WCW was crushing the WWF at this point in time. All those ridiculous young nobodies in the WWF couldn't even begin to compete with the previous generations juggernauts.
Boy did that change though.
Honestly I think that's what this newest generation needs, and I don't see how it'll ever happen. This latest crew has incredible talent, but nothing to work for. They've got their paycheck and no one to threaten them.
if you watch the audiance ..the lil kids are booing the mean guys ganging up on one defensless man, yet the grown men are cheering them on...lol ...life what a crazy ride.
One of the few reasons why WCW taking place at the Disney-MGM Studios in Orlando, FL is because of the 1996 Summer Olympics in Atlanta, GA, WCW's main site.
Yeah the first two years of the nWo were the shit. It did seem like there was no WCW with nWo black and white and nWo wolfpac? They had too many members in that faction anyway. Damn near 3/4 of the main roster.
Didnt like how they made Hogan kind of a wuss with the NWO. He never took someone on to their face. Always came in afterwards or attacked from behind.
Thanks for posting this and the other early nWo videos. Great memories. You posted many things not available on DVD's, just the original Nitros. Thanks again!
NWO angle was great then.. then it got stupid with half the NWO was a face bran and the other were heel.. and there was really no WCW.. the wolfpac? seriously? that is when i switched to WWE lol
Same here. the whole Wolfpac and Hollywood feud was getting too stale for me. I mean c'mon Sting Joined the wolfpac?! what kind of fuckshit is that? Besides at the time Stone Cold and DX was running the summer of 1998.
@Greg4fun You can argue that because this was a hostile takeover of WCW that they didn't even go far enough with this. What they could have done is turn everyone but a select few and do an 'Escape From New York' type of angle to blow it all up. Instead what we got was a repetitive mess.
even when WCW got stale they were miles better than WWF
WWF copied off this, trying to get Jim Ross involved just as WCW first came up with the Zybysko angle. ALso, they copied off Eric Bischoff's involvement and started to involve Vince McMahon. Also, they copied off NWO and created wannabe DX. It goes on and on!
Aaaah, the good times of pro wrestling. Bring me back for God's sake.
