If there was ever an intellectual spirit.....in the framework of our beloved martin luther King, it would be this great African American soul......Cornel West ...he would be characterized by My beloved grandmother as a very GOOD EGG...
thank u Dr. West. It was dishonest of Obama to say only in America bla bla bla. Good point abbou (ex) t president of Brazil.what about president Morales too. it seems like Obama has no connection to ppl at all. Even his beautiful speeches now just hollow. I think wall street knew they could depend on him before he was propelled to the worldwide stage. I dont think he would be given a stage if he sided w working ppl, poor. I dont think he sold out, I think he believes in his policies
@mespasticpunk : Ron Paul is a "close personal family friend and political colleague of yours". Ok buddy. And I'm the ghost of MJ. You are obviously batshit crazy. I hope for your sake decent insurance so you can get the medical care you require.
@mespasticpunk : I wan't to know why you keep calling Ron Paul a shill. He is not in the pockets of the central bank/federal reserve, labor unions, the CFR, the military industrial complex, the prison profiteers, or any of the other special interests groups that are fist fucking this country into ashes. He is the voice of the educated masses. The reason he can't gain any real traction is bc the main stream media fed zombie imbecile apathy masses exceed rational minds by huge numbers
@mespasticpunk : Maybe you should do some research before you start labeling people as frauds. The reason Ron Paul comments appear on videos like this is because the people have been electing as leaders for the last 40 years have been furthering the same global, imperialist, military agenda. And Obama was perhaps the biggest letdown of them all. But he was only a letdown to the people who bought the bullshit.
@mespasticpunk : Why doesn't Obama go after what Dr. West calls the "Prison Industrial Complex" 70% of prison population is black. The crime? Petty drug offenders. An entire generation of young black people incarcerated under the guise of a fake "War on Drugs". The real reason is because prison is a private business that is BOOMING! When prison becomes as profitable as it is today, you better believe we will send more poor people in. Same thing can be said about any war.
@mespasticpunk : Ron Paul is not a fraud. He's a medical doctor, a veteran, and a lifelong civil servant. He predicted the housing crisis, along with every other financial and foreign policy disaster of the last 30 years. Notice Dr. West's criticism of Obama in blunt terms is that he is a stooge for the elitists and the banking cartel. Institutions that contributed BILLIONS of dollars to prop Obama up and buy the 08 elections. Obama DOES NOT CARE ABOUT YOU. Just that simple.
PO has lost the respect of many black people (he doesn't seem to care), so he has lost a lot of possible votes(does he care?). Black people need to realize if your are to survive as a race you are pretty much on your own, NO ONE will come to rescue you. An endagered species on its way to extinction for fifty years now. I do not think the tide can be stopped unless you all individually make a concious decision not to believe lies of caring/help by those who abuse you time and again.
Aside from his outdated, silly left wing collectivist rhetoric he made three good points in 26 minutes of nonsense. Corporate welfare is out of hand. GM bailout cost taxpayers $84 billion. He also made a good point about other countries providing opportunity and a good point about the US not supporting the ANC. Why was West surprised that Obama didn't say anything about the Palestinians? Obama did nothing about a true revolution in Iran. His equating Cairo and Madison, WI is a joke right?
Obama is the worst president ever! I'm speaking from a Black Nationalist/Pan-Africanist position. His candidacy exploited our people's desperation for change and his presidency has victimized our political weakness.
I have to say, with the area I live in and from experiences with meeting alot of these kids in poverty, it feels like that class is almost a lost cause. The African American children ESPESCIALLY in this area are raised on "getting a check" and are either content with continuing the cycle or believe that there's nothing better that they can do. (Not that this DOESN'T apply to the large white percentage in this area.) What can be done about this? I meet kids HAPPY with idea of getting a check...
No way that all the things set in motion since Reagan's time will be overturned in 4 to 8 years. Obama or no, I don't see how any one man in the Dem party can deal with all those things. Everyone is upset b/c he was an icon. Now, after he's been dealing with the reality, people are realising that it will take more than one person. I don't see how one person can deal with all the things corrupted in this country. It's good that the "star status" is dieing down. He's just one man.
@holygroove2 this is the best comment i have heard regarding Obama...I don't know or care if you support him or not, but the comment you made is very true. I respect Bro. @wize1 He said in so many words that he doesn't regret it because although he is disappointed with Obama as president, he still believes Obama was the best choice given the alternative.

Those of us who have followed Cornell West over the years know that is anything but a "race huckster." He is, as the host described him, one of America's most provocative intellectuals, and is consistent in his often radical commentary. I saw him speak in person a few weeks ago, and it is obvious, as it was in this video clip, that he is frankly disappointed in Obama, for the same reasons many of us are-- that is, Obama's now-clearly demonstrated tendency to act far too moderately.
@Kooshkoff If I come to Baveria. #1 Sono Italiano I know who I am and where I come from. # 2 the States are fillded with race hucksters like this guy. Hes a phoney baloney. I hope your not ashamed of your heritage and cluture
It is not enough to just have a "brother" in the White House, we need a leader who stands for truth and justice, someone that represents ordinary people, not corporate interests!
I for one am not surprised at the behavior of Obama, but nevertheless disappointed.
God, he's great. I love his speaking truth to power, particularly an emphasis on truth as defined by listening to the stories of suffering. Those who agree with his analysis, let's push ourselves to organize, challenge... consumer activism is not enough.
@Kooshkoff Yes of course i was talking purely about the difference in their moral philosophies. Those people who are still clinging to these myths are pretty much out of the discussion, pertaining today's social problems, which will only be solved though reason, science and empathy.
@Kooshkoff Germany is a democracy, that means change is achievable through peaceful means, though it may be slow and gradual. I think we are on the right way. Human Rights is the best and most fair invention humanity has ever come up with! We are certainly not perfect, but show me an alternative. There isn't one. Secular democracies is the only form of government that is founded on equal rights for all individuals and for certain ideologies.
The 3 monotheisms Christianity, Judaism, Islam are nothing like Buddhism. Buddhism has a rational morality that does not rely on revelation, but is concerned with human well being and not doing harm to one another,! Christians,Jews, Moslems are concerned with pleasing an invisible being, who laid down morals that are almost indistinguishably from guideline a male patriarch from a bronze age tribe would invent.
Probably because that is the source, because there is no god.
@Kooshkoff So that non german speakers can follow the argument and pitch in if they want to! It's not fair to create a german bubble. Don't you think?
all U niggers worship this stinking African like he was Jesus, so shut the hell up, he left black ppl in haiti to die of hunger & disease & u dumb niggers haven't spoke out & said one word of it, YOU GETTING WHAT YOU DESERVE FOR ALLOWING THE WHITE MAN SCAM YOU & I HOPE HE GIVES HIS MASA MORE BAILOUTS & GIVE U NIGGER NOTHING FOR BEING SO DUMB IN THE HEAD.
@Kooshkoff Of course humans can do bad without religion, but religions are the perpetuation of very bad archaic ideas, from which we would be already free, if not for their tenacity to be passed on to our children! We have better guidelines now, like humanism democray, etc but religion lives on, infecting our children with bronze age morals and superstition, stifling reason and empathy.l
@Kooshkoff you asked me if i'm rich or just pissed of, and i said i'm neither. I was pleasently surprissed by how much sense he made. What made judge? I made myself judge, since as human beings it's in our nature to judge and compare.
@Kooshkoff Neither! I said i like his thoughts, i was just presupposed by his teaching of religion. since i think religion is not the hallmark of a rational mind.

Never heard of him before. Ain't into man-made religion. But he made some good ethical and moral points. Most people now are just fed up of being stuck in the middle. Caught between cowboy and lobbyist neo-con corporate greed on the one side. And radical ideologies and theocracy's that only serve dictators on the other. TRUE PROPER DEMOCRACIES without cosying up despots for cheap goods and influece on resources must be the THIRD WAY in order to save the human race on this planet!
I'm always curious as to why these so-called liberal/progressives express disappointment in Obama. Haven't these people realized by now that nobody gets into the White House without being very carefully vetted by the Powers That Be to insure that they are committed to the agenda of business as usual? At least Dr. West admits that Obama is the same old-same old, as opposed to the ones who are in denial that Obama is a puppet and defend him relentlessly.
Speaking of & about the truth won't do most people any good. West's thoughts are the thoughts of the masses of Americans, of most people around the world. But it doesn't matter. It is only the powerful --- who run Kraft foods, GE, Toyota, BMW, Mercedes Benz, Goldman Sachs, Wal-Mart, IBM, Monsanto, Halliburton, etc. --- & what they want, in America & anywhere in the world, when it comes to policies governing banking, oil & energy, raw material & land rights, etc. that matter.

@ajames95 I would add him and Jimmy McMillian of the "Rent is to Damn High Party" into the battle royal just for the kicks and giggles.
