  • I think its great that SPD is becoming more widely known but I wish they didn't generalize in this interview so much. SPD is not always about being hyper-sensitive. My son is hypo-sensitive and seeks out the sensory stimuli that he isn't receiving properly.

i wish they would have explained that aspect of SPD too.

  • @UpstateKate

I agree. My son is at the other end of the spectrum, too (hypo-sensitive). It can be just as difficult as being hyper-sensitive but often more difficult to recognize. I wish they'd talked about that aspect of SPD, too.

  • @UpstateKate I agree I have two little ones with Hypersensitive but I believe now looking back at my now 23yr old he was hypo-sensitive because he was always look at me look at me in your face mauling etc... the school said they believed he was ADD/ADHD but the test they gave him he was not! and I have a 7yr old that I wonder if he is hypo too.

  • @rprimeau95 con't You read more reference to hyper you are right! I just got this book from the library the other day and so far what I have read explains me to a T so now all the unexplainable things of my life make sense and I am 40yrs old. My hearing is getting more hyper I hear things most people can't they are so loud,

  • @rprimeau95 Lights have always bothered me, smells, tastes, and for the last 7yrs and more recently frequently itching that can't be explained to the point you feel like you are insane and you can't stop it nothing works but I did find out ice cold water shocks it but it is so painful to do it happens to my thighs, calves. I have always had troubles with materials, socks, I use a sheet on my couch or I can't sit on it etc...

  • I am from canada and i really consider myself lucky now. My daughter has Regulatory SPD and has a occupational therapist, a counsellor and a psychiatrist who specializes in children with SPD. I had never heard of this disorder until a year ago

  • omg! a psychiatrist specializing in SPD?! I will drive to Canada to find this! Can you tell us who this provider is?! We've been driving all over the state and can't find help. so glad you found help!!

  • This is very common as more and more people are recognizing SPD. The major problem we all face is that SPD is not covered by any medical insurance, unless you are on some type of govt assistance. I know because my son suffers from SPD and wife does not work. If my wife did work, then my son wouldnt receive his rehad and occupational therapy, which works. Its a shame to watch your kid suffer, but even worse when it's not acknowledged.

  • thank you for posting this video. I was involved in a study in Lucy's research here in colorado. I have SPD with issues in motor skills and a few other things. It's really a "fun" (sarcasm) and I'm amazed that this is still not a fully accepted diagnosis

  • There is hope. "Meghan's World: The Story of One Girl's Triumph over Sensory Processing Disorder" validates children's feelings and gives parents helpful information about traditional & alternative therapies that helped Meghan. It is beautifully illustrated and offers hope and inspiration to families dealing with SPD and Autism Spectrum Disorders. Beautifully illustrated children's social story. A must have.

  • Thank you for bringing this to the public. I deal with this everyday with my daughter and it is tough. Wish there was more help out there for this and it would be recognized.
