Love the end "it's not me". Come round a corner and see a guy who's clearly been in a fight sat on someone dead, evidence of bleeding from the neck and he's holding a sharp object "it's not me" he says.
@jack11643 yeah hes trained with benny and don the dragon, if you look closely in say anything that guy who drops cusak in the gym is don the dragon wilson.
I never get tired of thsi fight scene. Such a huge fan of Benny The Jet growing up and had the fortune to take a private lesson with him a fwe years back. Cussack is a pretty solid kickboxer himself off screen. Love the reflective drill by Benny The Jet in this scene as well. If The Jet were young enough to be around for MMA? He'd be right up there on top with the Frankie edgars and Gil Melendez's of the world
@GuardianAngel5150 100% right my friend, Benny was a true pioneer and still has so much to offer. I too love this scene, has it all, one of the best. All the ranges and feints as well.
@dingo976 Cusack is an actual martial artist. I thought he had done the training just for the scene but the guy knows what he's doing. Dont think I'd want to fight him.
AWESOME movie and an AWESOME fight scene. I would have never seen this movie back in 96 if a friend of mine wouldn't have told me how good it was. Definitely a movie to own if you like the 80's, dark comedies, assassins, shoot outs and fight scenes. Nice talk sugar mouth.
the look of relief/regret on cusacks face when he kills the jet is amazing. not many actors can do that, the little things that only last seconds but lay foundations to last throughout eternity.
That is the best fight scene in film. It's not the longest, nor the flashiest, but it is the most realistic. They start off all badass kicks and sweeps and then they get tired. How many other fights show the opponents actually sweating?
WTF, the "99 Luftballons" is in the original as well!? I thought they added that just for the german release ... so the song was huge in the US as well?
@Puschit1 Yeah that song was one of the most popular songs of the 80's here in the states. It's funny you say that cuz I never would have thought this movie to be released in Germany. It's barely popular here.
@Puschit1 Yeah it has a good rating from the people who watched it, but those people are very few. Not too many people know about this movie. But everyone who watches agrees it's great. Frankly, I'm shocked it's not higher than 7.5
Cusack is a killer. I was trained by a trainer at "the Jet center. Benny doesn't hand out belts easy. Cusack has 20 yrs of training to get that high. For those who care, Cusack might be opening a new Dojo with benny and bankrolling the whole thing.
Yeah, Jet's the man. Trained with him in Paradise CA in the Summer camp seminar he was at a few years back. He's got such a wealth of knowledge with striking and coaching and fighting overall.
I've been watching chinese kung fu movies for ages (I'm asian so) and I often cringe whenever I see americans trying to fight (like steven siegel). But I find John quite good in his fight scenes. It does show that he knows what he's doing. He definitely could kick my ass!
@minily I think you should watch Steven Seagal's "Above the Law" and his earlier 80's movies (hard to Kill, Out for Justice).. Seagal trained in Aikido at the Hombu Dojo in Shinjuku. Don't be fooled by the exaggerated fanboy hate on Seagal. I've learned karate and bokken training so it's easy for me to discern which fight scenes are just prolonged for suspense.
by the way, this fight scene between Cusack and Benny is very realistic. thanks for posting
@minily I'd kick your ass for 4 reasons: 1)Putting down us Brave Americans the best in the world,2)Mentioning Seagull's name in vain3)For being "Asian"4)for watching too many Kung Fu films when you could be making love.Your ass is mine.
@RasMajnouni - Okay, first, fuck you. And 2nd, here's my answer. 1) I'm not putting down Americans in general since I have commented on how good John Cusack's skills are and I think he's American. So, maybe you're the one projecting your own insecurity about your nationality. 2) Seagal was just an example from the top of my head. Kronos251 was civilized enough to explain how he thinks I'm wrong and it did change my view on Seagal. What's your argument. You'd kick my ass... um... try again later.
@RasMajnouni - 3) You fucking racist. 4) I may watch kung fu movies, but I don't go out kicking people's ass or threatening others to kick their ass because they said something I don't agree with. So... who's not making love here between you and me?
@minily /I was bored, only happened on this scene.I'm not American,I normally don't watch Kung Fu since I don't lie violence.Seagull?Who cares?"Asian"?A a name in general of people who spend time on seeking a very good education.I just picked on your comment and said the opposite.I'm sorry & I apologize to you.
@RasMajnouni - Apology accepted. I don't watch kung fu movies because it's violent. I watch them because kung fu to me is like a dance such as tai chi, one of my favorite style. Anyway, I think it was only a misinterpretation of comments. It's already forgotten.
This happened in War Inc. too. :] He was fighting a group of people to Blue Danube and Marisa Tomei and Hillary Duff walk in on him terrified and run. lol
@egkg75 first of all, talking is verbal (moron). secondly when i said "something" i'm not reffering to the film but to this video, you watched the film, didn't like it and then watched youtube videos about it despite the fact you didn't like it (thats the sad part).
@iliketha I was voicing my opinion about the film, maybe someone who didn't see it would see my comment and take heed, you are a moronic anal sweat gland but what else would I expect from someone if they are a person who thought this was a great film and of course I know what talking is you dolt, I was referring it in a matter of communicating again you just reveal your own ignorance by your idiotic comment
@egkg75 i'm assuming from that comment that your first language isn't english or you're no older than 6, either way that might explain why you didn't get much out of the film.
to reiterate my point:
Q: why would you watch this youtube video if you dont like the film?
A: 'cos you have nothing better to do. That is sad, therefore YOU are sad. that's all i was saying :)
@iliketha I'm not going back and forth over same topic. I tell you what you win, I have no life, I'm a moron, I'm stupid, I'm whatever you want to say congratulations tah-dahhhh you win, infact this is my last youtube comment since I can't voice my opinion, I'm sooooooo sorry for saying this film stunk, it is actually the greatest film ever, I'm done arguing so don't bother commenting this, but if you do I promise I will not reply I've seen the light hallelujah
now thats a fight! his reactions are just spot on (smak kik smak kik dodge smak), not to mention his face when he kills the guy with a pen, just great acting! cusack is awsome.
Watch "War, Inc" as it is also co-produced & written by John Cousack and is called by critics as the spiritual Grosse Pointe Blank II. Hilary Duff is hilarious, yet compelling as an arabic pop singer. Classic cult film not to miss!
One of the very best scenes in one of my favourite films. God, everything is perfect, the choreography, the music... and christ how Cusack and his insane kicks there turn me on!
Jackie Chan vs Benny Urquidez in "Dragons forever"... Jackie vs Benny Urquidez in "Wheels on Meals". (The bad guy in this scene is Benny Urquidez... Don't know if you knew)
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
I've just realised I'm like John= "scrupuled hitMan" here. He's the only (Really) Normal in a screwed up, etc society where even the gov. ppl R "bent" , not just Realtors, Shrinks, etc. I've been suffering in the UK coZ I'm a decent, educated, not lazy, etc person whereas White BRIT-born ppl are Not. That's why I'm a misfit, outcast too. UNlike the Brits, I doN't take drugs either. At 1st I didN't know why I was treated so badly in UK. Recently I've learnt whom my sacrifice is for.
One of the most awesome fight scenes ever. It's so close range and Cusack and Urquidez kick seven kinds of crap out of each other, they are both totally badass in this!
i love this scene because it's so believable, it wouldn't surprise me if they were actually hitting each other between 50-60% of full power.( Cusack trained with Benny for awhile)
..."hast Du etwas Zeit für mich, dann singe ich ein Lied für Dich von 99 Luftballons auf ihrem Weg zum Horizont"...the following song is also kinda nice. And funny in the context.
Umm okay never thought I'd see a world karate champion Benny The Jet Urquidez fight John Cussack but there you have it. I think Thanks to Benny we have one of the most down to earth fight scenes in cinema. If you want the other end of the spectrum look for bennys' fight with jackie chan at in dragons forever or wheels on meals
Cusack is an avid kickboxer. One of the things that make him such an intriguing personality and actor is the fact that he has SO many layers and is always full of surprises.
I love this scene. The fact that a reasonably realistic fight scene turned up in a COMEDY, of all places, is what really makes me laugh. The only bit I dislike is the high kicks, but that's probably just me.
Who else noticed the poster hanging there - THE FUTURE IS UNWRITTEN. Ten years later, this was the name of the Joe Strummer bio/film (and Strummer did the score for GPB)...thought that was pretty cool!
guys, John's a good actor (maybe even better than GeorgeClooney+BradPitt together) nevermind might be better looking than them, again together. Would he do a PUBLIC "Brad" on his wife 2? He could run 4President or advertise coffee like recession-struck George. Why doesn't he do it? Rumour has it that he's busy with: his family, writing/reading, sports, ladies,SEXy smoking-legal-stuff, etc. Nobody mentions Midnight in the Garden..maybe the best 1 he was in+his girlF, directed by buddy Clint East
it dosent even looked choregraphed... right now i realy wonder if it is... it feels so real how they land the hits n stuff. What feels even more real is how they dont land them! like at 0:54 when cussack misses his elbow strike just because the other MEANIE put a distance at the right time.

Jackie Chan vs Benny Urquidez in "Dragons forever"... Jackie vs Benny Urquidez in "Wheels on Meals". (The bad guy in this scene is Benny Urquidez... Don't know if you knew)

l've learned so much from this video...
1st. A pen can be a lethal wepon sometimes...
2nd. You look cooler if you fight wearing a suit...
3rd. The vocalist of Hoobastank looks just like John Cusack...

In this scene 1:00 Cusack delivers one of the greatest sidekicks in film.

Cusack has great kickboxing, even in his shitty movies they genrally showcase his cat like agility.
Benny of course is a meathead and a great fighter, he's unbeaten ffs.

..."hast Du etwas Zeit für mich, dann singe ich ein Lied für Dich von 99 Luftballons auf ihrem Weg zum Horizont"...the following song is also kinda nice.

I saw this when i was 17 and it was the thing that got me into kickboxing, Its an awesome scene especially John Cusacks double roundhouse

What feels even more real is how they dont land them! like at 0:54 when cussack misses his elbow strike just because the other MEANIE put a distance at the right time.
great movie...guys.. remember the TV? 8D
Frankykarot1982 3 years ago 2
its benny the jet, hes an awesome fighter/choreographer. no doubt it looks very realistic.
