    Nice tutorial :D

  • i gotta say, this is extremely helpful! great video quality, talking, not too fast and just great tips.

i will be back, with questions.

  • What NTRP rating do you play at?

  • So far, you are the best. I love it. I just learn something new. Thanks so much.

  • Great video clips, thanks so much Coach Mario.

  • the grip where you pick up the racket is actually semi-western i saw tons of other vids and research online. the eastern grip is closer to continental and is perfect for low balls and flat shots while semi-western is the most used by pros and has alot of variety and is more safe

  • Wow. I had no idea Orlando Bloom played tennis.

  • @abucket888 more like Antonio Banderas

  • dude c motion

  • Great video. I m on basics an this help me a lot. Thanks

  • Thank you for the tips. I will begin putting them into practice my next tennis session

  • I'd disagree. Personally I think the "weight" of the ball comes with the low, skidding bounce when you take the ball on the rise.

  • @y11971alex The real way to hit a heavy ball is to walk into the ball and thus transfer your bodywieght into the hit. but by taking the ball early and on the rise you naturaly do that...so we agree.

  • You seem to choke up the handle a bit.

  • it feeds my will... thanks for the video... :)

  • as i said in another video perfect.....nadal topspin at 3:07 .....anyway perfect video..

  • ok i'd better get back get the basics tennis physics, u missed the middle part, the explanation. u just report some teaching fashion.

  • Tks

  • Good information I can take with me to the court today. Thanks

  • Very good video. Everything is there including the slight activation of the wrist as you come to impact. Many sites deny this happens. Lets have lots more videos please

  • Fantastic Explanation and Presentation! Best Information on the Internet by a VERY LONG WAY!

  • Great instructions man

  • pause at 2:47 !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! not 2:46 ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh

  • I like your way of tennis but I was tought to hold my raquet slanted so that when I hit the ball, it naturaly puts spin onto it but i'm also going to have to aim higher than with the eastern grip to hit my shot.

  • I like the way u explained it. U made it easier 2 understand what 2 do.

  • That really helped me

  • pause at 2:46

  • Thanks so much. Great video lots of respect from me!

  • Thank you very much for this video Mario. I am very very grateful and this has helped me so much. Keep it up

  • You are not using an eastern grip. Why don't you teach them the semi-western grip that you're using?

  • clear and smooth explanation to a new way of playing tennis.

  • Fantastic video my friend

  • is that racket the prince rebel team ?

  • You can do it!

  • I just made the tennis team at my school, but it seems that when i hit forehand or backhand, my balls go high in the air. Can you please help me with this problem? Thanks so much!

  • I finally found the best video about tennis.

  • u should help train me! im a top us prospect

  • Great video! Mario, I would really appreciate your help. I have some problems with my forehand. I can`t reach a solid wrist position during my forward swing and due to this my stroke is too wristy and lacks of power and control. The impacts aren`t solid, especially on high balls. It`s really frustrating. I`m from Argentina

  • Hi Great video on 1:53 you start dropping im really confused is there a wrist motion going back in getting the wrist laid off or none looks like your wris gets laid off at 1;50 and I have been studying lots of film it looks like Federer and Nadal has this wrist turning on the drop getting the racquet into the locked position right before forward motion or is the wrist getting to the laid off position because of the snap?

  • Videos Very Helpful

You Sound Like Inigo Montoya Btw

  • how tall are you ?

    is 5'10 good for Tennis?

  • Safina? you might want to edit that out.

  • best instruction video on the net!!

  • nice

  • "Snap when you hit the ball"

This sentence changed my life, thanks!

  • this is more helpful than private lessons. seriously

  • great help, thankyou

Nadal won the US open today

  • @ChadzTalk - I saw that !!! He is unbelievable !!! I can't help wondering if the way he plays tennis is the way tennis is going to be like in 15 years all around. 70% reverse forehands, no more skinny upperbody players, it will become the norm to have abuild upper body .... it just looks like if you can be built like him and have some talent and good teaching, you would have the advantage over the rest .... we will see ....

  • THIS IS THE BEST INSTRUCTIONAL TENNIS VIDEO ON YOUTUBE KEEP THEM UP!!! GREATLY APPRECIATED :)

  • I've been playing now for about 2 months with my friend who's been playing for 6 years and had a coach for the first 2 months of playing. I've always had problems finding the proper form. I learned how to serve just by watching the pros but forehand and back hand were still sloppy :/. I found this vid very helpful. I'm playing him today and I hope I don't mess it up too bad. lol

  • @Ibanezking11 - so ... is it working ?

  • @Mariomst At first when I would do the "windshield wiper" motion the ball would usually go too high. After a few times of hitting it back and forth I can get it in and close to the net. I just have difficulty with power. Whenever I hit it hard It seems I lose all form and it hit it too far or it smashes into the net. Any tips on how to add a little bit of power to my hits and keeping the ball in play?

  • FANTASTIC THANK YOU

  • @usseryroad - Thank you for saying this, I'm glad you liked it !

  • Outstanding tennis lessons. My question is at 2:17 of the video, you mention the snap is a windshield wiper motion. But if I do a windshield wiper (which is sort of like waving at someone), my wrist finishes face down like yours but bent up instead of bent down after wrapping around my body, but I notice yours finishes bent down. Is it more like a whipping motion of the wrist? Please explain. P.S.Your lessons are the best on the net.

  • @imnokasparov - you are right, the windshield wiper reference is meant to explain the start of the swing right before you hit the ball, as a way for beginners to get a clear picture as in how to move the racquet across, but during and after you hit the ball the face of the racquet sort of progressively starts to almost look down, and the wrist bents in the direction you described .... again, you are right : )

  • at 5:09 re the two recovery steps... you say "right left and stay balanced". Do you mean left right and stay balanced? Thx...great videos

  • @FairwayJack - You are right, thanks for the correction !!! Not sure what to say other than in Colombia left is right and right is left .... noooo, just kidding, honest mistake ...

  • @Mariomst ...noted !! I spent 5 minutes of my life trying to pirouette after a running forehand LOL !! Hey Mario...how about a video on the drop shot or the forehand running squash shot ?? Also BTW....have you seen Jurgen Melzer's jump drop shot ??? It is way cool and I swear it backs up. Starts out looking like his standard 2hbh topspin jump shot but he changes mid air and rips down the back of the ball

  • @FairwayJack - Yeah, Melzer is an amzing player, grew up with Federer, and many said he was going to be as good or better, he didn't, but then again who did ? Actually my next video is going to help everyone how to time every tennis ball that comes, forehand or backhand or anything else ..... after that I thing I'll go for the twiner first (or as we call it in Colombia the "Pecci" after Victor Pecci who was the first one to do it in southamerica), and the slap forehand after .... TTYL !

  • @FairwayJack - I saw him at the open and remebered your comment, it is spectacular and makes things great to watch. I want to do so many videos, but time is just not been on my side, I am looking forward to retirement ... I'll make one video a week then ... have great day !

    Mario

  • @queenofcourt - it's a very easy habit to get into .... thanks !

  • @queenofcourt - thanks a lot !!!!

  • @Vishva360 - you are welcomed

  • Please think about the children

  • @PeNgUiNfReAk110 - I do all the time, that's why I have "project change" ....

  • I love so make one

  • @PeNgUiNfReAk110 - one what, golf ?

  • Bye and make one about golf

  • @PeNgUiNfReAk110 - Trust me you wouldn't want me to ....not to good at golf : )

  • Thanks I am learning tennis and this is helping

  • @PeNgUiNfReAk110 - I'm glad it is, let me know if you have any questions ...

  • Great tips, thanks

  • Lol. I love your "you can do it" at the end. It makes me feel more confident.

  • hi amigo

and how do you get the topspin forehand and backhand technique as an wheapon

  • @gewooneerlijk - just make sure to keep your body going through the ball, don't stop your shoulders from rotating and reach out as you hit. Your legs also play a huge role in this equation, so don't forget to load before, and unload as you hit. Good luck !!!

  • nice video! i have a question thought - is this a closed or open stance? what is the difference and which one should i use? (beginner) thanks a lot!

  • @jarubky - Well, Open stance is better for the player that doesn't have time to practice more than 3 or 4 hrs per week. Neutral Stance, which is one leg straight in fron of the other as you step in for a forehand or backhand. The benefit of Open Stance is that you can hit any ball that is hit to you, and with Neutral or closed stance if the ball gets to wide, it is very hard to use closed stance, so go with the open stance.

  • what shoes you wearing?

  • @getchizzled - what shoes are you wearing .... Prince ....

  • why does everyone use that same gay opening theme song

  • @getchizzled - Sorry you don't like it, probably because it is a loop from garrage band ......

  • Hey mario, I already knew how to hit a forehand before I watched this, and I like what you had to say. On my forehand follow through i do it the way you do it (to the side, not over your shoulder) but my coach always tells me to follow through over my shoulder. I noticed (and found it interesting) that you said not to do that, and that following through up over the should was over and gone. I don't think I will change but i was just wondering why you said it was "gone" or "over". Thanks

  • You are right, don't change it !!! I am not sure why pro's out there are so afraid to change, it is obvious if you turn the TV on that 99% of the players ou there in the pro circuit are not following through over the shoulder, as a matter of fact, if they could hit the ball as far in front as they want to, they allways would end the follow through down by the hip ... don't change ....

  • @Mariomst thank you mario! I also notice that all of the pros, federer, gonzalez, etc do this, and they have great forehands, and hitting over the should felt weird when i tried it, and i hit a better ball doing it to the side. Thank you

  • @pararesis - anytime !!!

  • Great tips, been playing for 15 years, but this vid had some new things for me.

  • @CenturionNL - tennis has changed a lot, specially forehand ...

  • This is very good. You corrected vital mistakes that many coaches make.. EXCELLENT video.

  • @wksoh - thanks a lot !!!! It means a lot to hear ...

  • nice video

  • @narutoz9tailedfox - thanks !!!

  • whenever i try and hit a tennis ball with an eastern forehand i mess up. i hope this video helps me :]]

  • @GforceRock Did it ? If not, change a little to semi western, Eastern grip is just a nice place to begin, most people ends up moving it to semi western ....

  • great video!!

  • @javierf4280 - thnk you

  • Andy Roddick Uses this type of forehand

  • @305Andyy305 - everyone uses this type of forehand .... well almost everyone ....

  • pretty nice lesson! even for advanced players

  • @Aquaboy99 - thanks .....

  • Great Video Mario! This is one of the best forehand videos out there.

  • would have been better if we could see from the back view also

  • @IMDAMANYALZ Sorry, I'll remember for next time ...

  • @IMDAMANYALZ - thanks a lot !!!!

  • 1:20

the jump is quite an exaggeration... But i think this video is very helpful for beginners.

    Thank you.

  • @salaheddine10 - Not really, watch the pro's hitting running forehands, the momentum of the run and the loading causes the jump ....

  • @Mariomst

    Yeah maybe, i see now.

  • @salaheddine10 - : )

  • great video, not too sure about that eastern grip, looks like a semi western

  • Thanks for the comment, I play with semiwestern, but I advise beginners to start with Eastern, when you grab the racquet the way I show in the video, you'll end up very close to an eastern, close enough that most likely will get someone starting on the right path. You know your tennis though ... nice to see ...

  • good video thanks!

  • great! thanks alot, this was really helpful

  • this is amazing.

ive been having consistency problems with the traditional over the shoulder follow through, but with this windshield wiper wrist flick, the added top spin not only increases my consistency and control, but makes my shots a good amount heavier.

many thanks for this great vid!

  • a little hint for others,

what helped me a lot was the concept of trying to hit 'around' or 'outside' the ball, it helps you conceptually grasp the wrist flick and the follow through mothion

  • I think you should do an other video that shows western and semi-western forehand ,.

  • @gabtennis588 - I'll clone myself first ... : ) then I think I can do it ....

  • the first gris is not an eastern grip

  • Yes it is ....

  • I would really like to know how that racquet you're hitting with plays. (The exo3 rebel 95). And how does it compare to the lighter team version of the racquet?

  • When you said the extension at contact must be there for the snap to happen, would that apply to people who play with a bent elbow forehand?

  • @ericchuu16 - sure, snap can happen no matter what, only that iit is most effective if the arm is 90% extended ...

  • i hope you can be my coachy!

  • haha - Malasia is a little far ...

  • @MapleDynasty - hahahah , sure come up ....

  • Excellent instruction! I tried this today during our 3 hour hitting session. It Works! But I have to keep my head down and take one thing at a time. Thank you very much!

  • You are very welcomed, glad I can help !

  • Great Video Mario.

Very articulate and easy to follow.

I'd suggest you do a instructional series with a little more detail on each of the points you covered.

    I'd buy it.

  • Thanks "V", not enough hours in the day, maybe when I retire : )

  • Love the video. A great explanation of the modern forehand. Two questions. The grip looks more like a semi-western no? Your index knuckle is on bevel 4 - that is semi-western correct? Also, you say that the high finish is dead. Is it not situational? I know typicaly the follow through is more around the shoulder but wouldn't it be situational basd on what type of shot you are choosing to hit? Thanks!

  • Hey Terran, you know your tennis, I am not sure you are looking at me when I hit the ball, or at the beginning when I show the proper grip. I hit with a semiwestern, but I recomend beginners to start with an eastern grip. So you are correct my friend, I am as I hit the ball using a semiwestern grip. As for the follow through, if you look at the younger players today, Monfills, Nadal, even Blake, Kohlshriber, they finish down, the racquet head no matter what you hit today, will now ....

  • point down at the end of the swing, as oposed as up as it used to be. If the ball you are going to hit is shoulder high, then the racquet will not finish by your hip, it will finish by your shoulder, but with the head pointing down ... these videos could go on for ever with how to explain all the situations that can derrive in a match, so I basically explain the general concept that a beginner could use to get on its way to a good stroke. Tlak to you soon !

    Mario

  • take a look at the video with the top kids in the US I have posted, this is what the new generation of players look like, and this is the "new" forehand ... anyone learning anything else will fall behind ....

  • @Mariomst

Could not agree more sir. I'm just curious about different situations may possibly create a bit higher follow through. I agree 100% with you that the modern or new forehand is certainly hit more around the shoulder or lower even hip level like Monfils perhaps. Either way your video is fantastic! Looking forward to more !

  • Thanks Terran, Talk to you soon !

  • Excellent tips, i'll try it next Tuesday 10x dude!!

  • @CMSHLZeppelin - how did it go ? 9 months and 3 days ago ?

  • Great vid! Thanks for posting! I have a match tomorrow and Im going to try to hit my forehand like you showed ;) My backhand is pretty good, but my forehand sucks.. (weird, I know :P) Hopefully it will go a lot better now. Thanks again!

  • hmm... i have the same issue, i hope u could be good in that match!! but something u must know: never change your game (even trying a new thing) before a match!!

  • @CMSHLZeppelin - how about you, did it work ?

  • @Sinerra - soooo, did it work ?

  • hi i'm having the same problem with my wrists can you help me also?

  • I'll try to do a Video on how to solve your wrist problem ...

  • mmmm, what is your e-mail address ? Maybe I can send you a small video, it is just to long to explain .....

  • wow that was awesome teaching. but I have one quick question: How do I make my wrists not move during the swing prior to contact? I find that my wrists just keep wiggling around and it decreases power and accuracy from my shot. Can someone help? pls reply thanks in advance.

  • Thanks so much again !!!

  • One of the best, if not the best modern forehand instruction on you tube in a very short time. Thank you so much for sharing the video.

  • incredible video. Your forehand is amazing! I guess the only thing I noticed right away that you forgot to mention was the mogul step, which I noticed you did, but didn't discuss. After completing the forehand and landing those two steps, you did a mogul step before you did the crossover recover step. Otherwise, fantastic video that encompasses every major aspect of the pro forehand in such a neat little package.

  • I'm glad it helped, let me know if there is any topics you would like a vidoe on ... have a great day !

  • Great vids....my forehand in particular has really come on. I'm having trouble with the return of serve - mainly changing grips - will you be doing a return of serve vid?

    Cheers

  • @TheHudson40 - I'll try ...

  • Are you planning to do the volley and the return of serve?

    Brilliant videos.

    Cheers

  • @TheHudson40 - when they add 10 more hours to the day ... just kidding, I'll try ...

  • how about a video for single handed backhand?

  • This pro prolly doesn't hit a one handed backhand.

  • @Samprasisthebest - yeah I do : )

  • @da0001ui - done ...

  • thanks you so much you explain very clearly and fully you helped me a lot when im training!

  • Glad I could Help !

  • Mario, I was surprised at how good your teaching was. I tried it on the court and really hit the ball great. Distance was the key for me, making sure I had the space to lean in. Many thanks!!!!

  • @driscojf - you welcome !!!

  • thanx that was good as tutorial.

  • @TheHungryjacks - thank you !!

  • Exelente Tutorial!..Felicidades.

  • Muchas Gracias !!!!

  • Amazing video, magnifico :)

very high quality, nice guy, very easy to understand

    5 Stars

  • DE NADA !

  • GRACIAS

  • Thank you so much. Even though my forehand was slightly my weak point in my game from the start, a few years ago my forehand started to go away for some reason. This tip from you helps me to understand the forehand better and what I will improve on.
