  • Did someone ever dare to watch this film stoned?

  • This is so amazing, in a Mortal Kombat II Fatalities' kind of way.

  • If you guys like weird movies, check out the Holy Mountain!!

  • Saw this on TCM last night. You can tell I've never done acid or shrooms, because I've been awake and staying away from furniture for hours now

  • Its always Lupus.

  • can somebody tell me if this is a good movie?

  • @fastman275 Yes

  • i can't get it our of my head once I watch it...

  • This is so messed up and weird. For people who like movies such as A Clockwork Orange, Eraserhead and Suspiria. Flying laughing heads and killer matresses... but interesting and individual.

  • Check out my first mix ever and tell me what I shud improve :D

  • ...What..the...Hell...?

  • ... What?

  • 1:23 Ok was she or was she not wearing panties?

    Seattle, WA 98122 (206) 686-6684. April 3 and April 4, 2011 @ 9:30 p.m. I'll be there! Will you?

  • 0:33 Man, the Japanese version of the Love Boat is weird

  • Miki Jinbo was the best out of the bunch.

  • And I thought Robogeisha and Toyko Gore Police were weird....... but this one seems just slighly worse ;-)

  • Roadhouse

  • HOUSE!

  • stupid house...

  • lol wut

  • Hausu is basically a mix between a live action anime cartoon and the Evil Dead.

  • @immutabledude

This came out before Evil Dead.

  • @TylerPreston20 I know it was a predecessor. It was only a comparison.

  • So... anyone want to buy that house? Its only 40,000 a month but the realtor will throw in a geisha bleeding from the anus, a flying decapitated head, and a persian cat that spits red flesh-eating acid. The lighting works fine, you just need to avoid the lightshade that dismembers humans and sends them through psychedelic trips that gave those kids Porygon seizures.

  • Wow. I was taking it seriously up until 0:33. Then all seriousness went ZIP right out the window. What a weird movie.

  • nossa que tosco

  • OMFG. wtf is that XD

  • its finally out in deluxe criterion dvd- fantastic cult classic psychedelic horror!

  • When I saw this film I was thinking : " oh cool, a japanese horror movie "

No, this is a comedy film!

  • @fanaticforanime It is horror and comedy simultaenously. Asians love to blender genres.

  • TAKE THAT!! SAW 3D!!

  • This is being released in USA from Criterion Collection dvd Oct. 26 2010... so you know it will have great subtitles, and be totally restored.

  • going to see this tonight at midnight. appropriately excited. oh yeah.

  • @DontTouchMyMilk coolidge corner

  • @DontTouchMyMilk just saw it last night at a midnight screening - unbelievable

  • I'm hunting this down as I type. I love the trailer:)

  • I think this film inspired Sam Raimi with his evil dead franchise... the resemblances are almost uncanny! Thank you Janus for creating such a wonderful and diverse library for film aficionados such as myself!

  • That same hair going up the back in the bathtub scene was used in the new grinderman video, heathen child.

  • This is playing at San Francisco's Red Vic theater this weekend... I think I'm going to have to definitely go and check it out.

  • @phubans I went today! Oh my god, this was the best thing ever to see in theaters.

  • @ReversingCurse Me too! I was at the 4 PM showing and it was a great experience. The film is wonderfully weird and everyone in the audience was cracking up. It was one of the best times I've had in a while.

  • @phubans Yeah! I went to the 2 PM matinee. The audience might have been one of the best parts of going to see the movie in theaters. (:

  • @ReversingCurse Did you see the preview for that animation called The Secret of Kells? That looks pretty good, too. Having a theater like this is one of the pluses to living in SF :)

  • @phubans I saw the preview. It does look very interesting, but I'm too poor to go to the movies again this week. ):

And yeah, the Red Vic is great.

  • Seen this in the Musuem of Fine arts Yesterday in Houston.... It was so...... odd.

  • Oh God this is so good I wanna puke to death!!

  • Oooooooooooooohh Mmmmmmmmyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy Ggggggggggggggooooddddd!!!

  • HAAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!!!!!

  • this is being re-released in october on dvd and blu ray here in the uk

  • I just saw it at the AFI in Silver Spring, MD. It's really wild & unconventional.

  • @s4ujcd I saw there last night! This movie is amazing...

  • @moviemonkeys The movie was a pleasant surprise. I just heard about it days earlier, & I've never seen any clips or trailers. I saw "Cyrus" at the AFI & planned to stay & watch "House" afterward.

  • @s4ujcd I think I heard about it a month ago on the blog "Bad Lit: The Journal of Underground Film." I decided on a whim to go and see it when I saw it in the listings the day of - for a while, I didn't go to movies that often, but the AFI Silver is a great theater with some fantastic programming...

  • This looks as messed up as "Happiness of the Katakuris"...

  • I have a question, does anyone know if this film was ever released with other audio? I was wondering if Janus will release extra audio. I have no problem with subtitles but I wanted to share this film with my folks but they won't read subs. Other than that the film will be purchased by me.

  • @yuukisama2001 Hi, as far as we're aware, HOUSE was never released in English-speaking markets, so there is no dub track.

  • @janusfilmsnyc Ok, thanks for that info. I'll be looking forward to the release once you guys get it ready to be released. Thanks.

  • Insane, imaginative like no other (all those overrated guys like Tim Burton and Co will NEVER reach that level of crazyness mixed with beauty), strange, funny, beautiful,.. A REAL cult movie.

  • DEAR GOD, just got back from seeing this at the theater. OKAY, this trailer does not even do it justice. Imagine this insanity x 10000000000....

Basically the best movie I've ever seen.

  • awesome.

  • ...well fuck. THAT...That is a horror movie right there. Definite buy upon release.

  • Does anybody know the name of the song that starts around the 30 second mark?

  • wtf? why does youtube recomend this kind of shit to me :/

  • Omg! Classic! Where can I find this?

  • does anyone know if this will play at the belcourt twin?

  • artsy :)

  • Just from this trailer, I know House is going to be my most anticipated Criterion release of this year besides Vivre sa vie and Antichrist.

  • HOASUESSSS

  • Comment removed

  • I really hope this will be released on Blu-ray.

  • Seeing this tomorrow!

  • YES! Starts tomorrow!

  • Wow, that movie looks really creepy yet hilariously silly at the same time.

  • LOLOL

  • Crazy...

    I want to see this.

  • Pure genius filmmaking.

  • When is this out on DVD?

  • @janitormovie Supposedly, September 7th from Criterion.

  • @AngelofMusic04 Where did you hear September 7th from Criterion? That would be sweet!

  • @mont3818 If I remember correctly, it was from an internet article posted on Facebook's Criterion Collection page.

  • @janitormovie Just annouced by Criterion for Blu-ray Oct 26, 2010

  • @janitormovie October 26 2010, according to the site.

  • @janitormovie It's on Criterion Collection now. And all Criterion Collection is half off at Barnes and Noble. I just bought this and came here to see he trailer.

  • @CamdenBloke

holy sh*t, i just did the same thing

  • For British and Australian viewers, note that the music for this awesome film was done by the band GODIEGO, who also composed the classic theme song for Monkey!

  • exciting.

  • @1:15 this movie invented screamers.

  • THis movie is no joke. A friend of mine got et by a piano. Housing is something to fear not invest in.

  • This looks delightfully terrible.

  • It looks sooo bad, that it's that good.

  • YES!

  • i want this movie...

  • I can hardly think of a film more deserving of a cult following than this one.

  • "Cherries Were Made for Eating" by Godiego.

  • No amount of multimillion dollar CGI can top this!

  • Im going to see this tuesday at the Belcourt theatre in Nashville. Can't wait.

  • I just got an email from Janus saying they've booked house at the Alamo Drafthouse in Austin. No date yet on the website.

  • wtf ???

  • does anyone else have the theme music stuck in there heads?

  • lol weird trailer XD

  • Crap, I want this in Dallas but it is not coming. Crap Crap Crap

  • how far is to austin from dallas because it's probably at the alamo drafthouse.

  • How can I get this to Omaha, NE?

  • so disturbingly funny : )

  • ummmm, um, what?

  • Subtitled for the first time? Give me a break. I've bought a subtitled dvd of this off of ebay years ago.

  • We're referring to the trailer itself, which, to the best of our knowledge, had not previously been subtitled. The wording of the description has now been changed. Thanks for your comment!

  • There is another version with optically burned in subtitles that was translated by native Japanese and is sometimes awkwardly worded. For example the sub-title "House is calling to you come back home and marry me" was instead "House entices you - get back to the countryside and get married" Thanks for the improved translation. I can hardly wait to see this.

  • You're welcome! Thanks for the info.

  • This movie was really shot in academy ratio so late in time? Peace.

  • Yes, this was confirmed by the director. He shot in Academy as late as 1998, with SADA. (Notice how at the end of the trailer, the frame switches to scope for the "coming soon" card - the actual 35mm print of the trailer has a 1.37 image squeezed anamorphically in the middle of a scope frame.)

  • Thanks for the prompt response, Janus! I only just noticed the coming-soon card. Now we wait for you to conquer Bollywood, Kollywood, Kaliwood, Lollywood, and Nollywood! Peace.

  • @MuzikJunkyAES I think that Scope films are not as common in Japan. I gather that such films tended to be event pictures and marketed accordingly, such was the cachet of the format. In any case, most directors (like Kitano Takeshi) still shoot in smaller formats for budgetary reasons.

  • CHICAGO. NOW. THANK YOU.

  • Yes! This movie rocks.
