@dill99pickal I agree. I call myself an apatheist, but if there were a God, I wouldn't blame him for any of the things this guy would supposedly bitch-slap him for - religion was the scapegoat for those things, not the cause. Nothing could make me believe that those priests wouldn't rape boys if they happened to be atheists and, say, accountants instead. There are always going to be insane assholes, and getting rid of religion won't make them go away. So I say who cares about religion at all?
I think the people who comment on this video rudely or in a negative way, need to grow up and learn some respect. You CAN NOT change the way someone believes. All you can do is just respect it, move on with your life, and continue believing the way you already do. Don't waste minutes of your lives thinking of something immature or just plain out stupid to comment with. If you think people SHOULD believe in God or Jesus or whatever, then go to church and pray. If you don't care about it, go us :]
anti-religion isn't "the way", my fellow apatheist. might i say, ORGANIZED religion is indeed the most corrupted of all, and it often leads to extremism such as the islamic terrorism we are facing today. but i have a possible solution to this, called the "Religious Society of Friends". the opposition to organized religion, religious agreement and worship between friends. as opposed to random strangers in a single building. people you can trust not to rape your children or pocket your donations.
Religion doesn't have the answer, neither do militant atheists. Stalin, Lenin, Mao = killed tens of millions in their anti-religion campaigns. It didn't bring about utopia or peace on earth, it brought pain, suffering, death and mayhem. Same as religion's holy wars and the inquisition. I'd say militant extremists, no matter what they believe, are bad for humanity. Period. Humans are te most self-destructive creature on this planet.
Religion of all kinds is the problem with this world once (if)we can do away with the nonsense the world will be a much better place the holy dribble can be proven wrong 1 sentance after another if you use logic bible humpers are idiots the only thing worse is a born again retard
@ninjamixer ..... religion is only harmful when taken to the extreme (eg, taking the bible litterally, condeming others that they will go to hell if they dont believe, starting a war over religion ect.)
otherwise i dont believe there is anything wrong with having a faith of some sort.
@fathemi I agree with you 100 % problem is all these things you mention are happening christians never draw a line between reality and metaphores it's real when it suits them and not when it doesn't muslims.... need I say more?

@fathemi religion is not freedom of speech. religion is like Chinese whispers. I'll introduce myself as a Christian. I agree with you on one big point here: proving and disproving God is hardly an appropriate endeavor for either theistic or atheistic parties. I think we should base our judgements on (in Christian jargon) we call the fruit we bear. In other words, let's focus on the relative good of theism or atheism. Personally, I think the human tendency toward evil is partially founded in ignorance, but it is independent of religious ties. Evil happens regardless.
It started out making some sense then flew apart at the middle. How does atheism, apatheism or agnosticism solve any problems? What are their points?
I have no problem whatsoever with someone that feels their humanity is limited to a physical world. I think it is wrong. No, I cannot prove metaphysical things using physical things (like knowledge). Why would I even try? We get so used to using our minds for everything yet our minds never solve fundamental problems-hunger, death, war, etc.
i complete agree with you. I really dont care if there is a god or not, i will NEVER become religious. I dont se any advantages of it, only disadvantages.

@RoninKorii But god could have just as easily not given us the capacity to do such things....and by doing so and relying on us to do what is best... which many do not, hes just set us up for failure...
My parents (God) love me with an unconditional love. Now if Im going to go and drink, my parents (God) tell me not to. (commandment) I can still disobey them (God) and go out to drink. I beg to differ. A racist judges someone based solely on their ethnicity, while I judge people solely on their behaviors. You can call me a "behaviorist" if you want. Judging someone based on their ethnicity, (something over which they have no control) is BAD! But judging someone based on their behaviors, (something over which they have vastly more control) is GOOD! It is a survival mechanism that we all have called threat assessment, and you stop using it at your peril. Thanks for commenting.
Well they also believe that Jesus didnt die on the cross regardless of his divinity. They also believe that Jesus wasnt the massiah when he fulfilled all of the messianic prophecies. (theres around 300 of them) Jesus was the son of God and he was conscious of his divinity. He forgave sins and nobody does that except God. If you want to know who Jesus really was instead of some rumors then read the gospels. JESUS SAID "No one comes to the Father EXCEPT through me." John 11:25-26
Hmm mlbfans point is a good one. Let me start by saying I BELIEVE IN GOD. Now, belief is not a behavior its a group of ideas, which modifies behavior. To categorize anyone group of people (save cults and fanatics) as all being the same is a racist frame of mind no matter how you look at it. My point is all of this is pointless atheist dont believe and of course believers do. So who wins? I'll tell you who wins we all do,cause its our right to believe whatever the hell we want to.
Secondly, faith or the lack of is a personal choice. No one should be attacked for their beliefs so long as they are not harmful. There is no such thing as all christians or all atheist. That is unless you guys wanna become the borg, which I kinda like free will.
@mlbfan3 : yeah, because black people have a choice to be white right? And because being asian means that you believe in a bunch of brain dead lies. Asians also spread lies to innocent white people who will turn Asian too if they swallow it. Remember kids, having a different ethnic backgroung is morally wrong and it means you're ignorant!
@mlbfan3 do you know how much war religion has caused??? if there is a god why is he testing us to see if we pick the right religion?? in my opinion god is just as bad as being a racist
@mlbfan3 you are wrong. well racism is an irrational hate against a specific group. hating religions on the other hand is not irrational at all because first of all it is destroying the society by supporting racism, discrimination and by limiting the people's freedom of deciding for their own life. second of all a majority of the wars in the history of the human species had a religious background the most awful warcrimes had a religious background e.g. yugoslavia, the holocaust and the crusades.
i wanna have a debate with someone about religion so bad. but just for fun. not to piss anyone off. I'm a 110% Apatheist now. And my parents are 150% Christians. so my house hold is just a big bundle of joy every Sunday. haha. so if anyone wants to debate with me about religion let me know. P.S. im a 14 year old girl so sorry if my facts are a little off about religion.
@DevonDances oh really a debate huh lol that sounds great? ;) you start :P ps. i'm not religious but i do get inspiration from Oriental religions and philoshopies
Besides, think about it. If there WERE a god who wants us to believe in him, I'd really have to let him know that he's not doing enough to make himself known.
Multitudes of religions with different interpretations, corruption in the church and so much strife? This god should certainly hire better workers.
That whole 72 virgin thing is a myth upon a myth. Americans made up that Bullshit after blaming Muslim "extremists" for 9/11. Anyways, you should forget both atheism & theism. Look into esoteric teachings. Teaching that help you "ascend" or "evolve". It's interesting stuff.
theists also close the debate by claiming god is just not reasonable in a rational/scientific way and so is the faith while scientists like dawkins think naturalisticly.
theres also a problam about the distinction of atheists and antitheists.
I agree with you exactly. I really don't care if there is a god. If there is, there is a small chance I will worship the right one. If there is a god i really doubt he will care if I go to church or fudgeback. If he created the universe he has a lot more to deal with than what I do in my day to day life.
Refuse to be labeled. You cannot prove whether or not such an entity exists, so ultimately atheists and theists believe in something out of faith they possibly even don't fully comprehend. All the fuzz about labeling people is so that they distance themselves from each other and point out "how we are correct and you are the bad guys... so you should die, etc" Just imagine how the world would be today if there weren't any labels for people.
Indeed they are, knowledge is a quality that a person receives with time and from their own free will, blind faith is something that is quite often imposed on an individual and with the right numbers and direction can be quite dangerous as history has shown.
I believe this man comes across as a well informed very articulate person who has done his research, rather then just taking on beliefs of any religion just because he was born into it and it's the right thing to do......
LOL this guys a total hypocrite. He goes on for the first half of the video proposing a solution to the ongoing friggin RAGING fire between Atheists and Theists... Then goes onto proclaim a new fukin anti-religion and proceeds to dump the usual sort of fuel an Atheist has (infact quite literally the same, I think he is using someone elses quotes) onto the fire, thus perpetuating the problem. Ya know there are reasonable people out there who believe in stuff as well as people who don't believe.
I also have some epic metal hair, and share an idea of things similiar to yours. Maybe more people should embrace the metal look and recieve instant enlightenment. Mike Huckabee told me that at last weeks service at the gates of hell. I also believe religion will fall in my lifetime. Keep rockin dude. I was in Atlanta one time, just walking down the street when a street preacher yelled at me and said "you're going to hell." I replied to the gentleman next to me "im getting the hell out of here."
Yes, I do believe that embracing the metal look is part of the road to enlightenment. Certainly it was what worked for Jesus. LOL. You Rock, SethCobb.
I don't know, in my view Apathiests should be all about respect of others' beliefs. If we make an enemy out of everyone with such a small group, we won't get very far now will we?
But honestly, why should we consider them our enemies? We're supposed to not care: it's in the name even! I think we should respect everyone else's opinion, because honestly if we don't we can't proudly say we don't participate in the giant pointless debate.
well, that's not really the case here where i'm currently on vacation. In the Philippines, there is so much veneration for god/churches/priets but little economic progress, corruption too, if i may add, and few enlightened people like you
I'm so sorry you won't be back. Does this mean it's OK if we talk about you behind your back?
I'm just kidding!!
But I am truly sorry you only watched "half" of the vid. You missed the me making fun of Allah. And my final summation! How could you bail on my final summation?
You're pretty much spot on at how I feel. God has never been there for me. I havnt given it any thought at all before I discovered the youtube debate, which by the way has only strenghten my belief that there is no god.
Anyways, i dont really care if there's a god or not. I just get mad at people using false evidence and stupidity trying to enforce their beliefs on me and others.
If there was a god and he was sending me to hell, i'd ask him why he didn't make any effort proving himself to me.
You may call me an apareligious apatheist then. So I'm proof that not all apatheists are anti-religious. However, in case you have a patent or monopoly (UGH!) of the term, I'm willing to label myself an inconsequentialist. Meaning I don't give a rat's ass if God exists or doesn't or if a person belongs to a religion or none at all. Just be true, fair & share the good times as well as bad & you strike me as such a good chap. Sorry if I seemed to have overreacted.
Why be anti-religious? If it really is the opiate of the masses, it was because at the time, the poor couldn't afford a drink or a fix. Mutha, you give apatheists like myself who strive for social justice a bad name. That's why I respect religious people like Mo. Teresa of Calcutta, Gandhi & M.L. King as well as atheists like Bertrand Russell & Larry Flynt.
I see religion, or mysticism, as the antithesis of enlightenment. I am a strong proponent of World Peace, and this I am because, unlike so many people that I talk to, I can actually visualize WP. But WP needs a world full of enlightened people. Thus religion, or mysticism, would need to be eradicated.
If you feel that religion is, in fact, not the antithesis of enlightenment, or, if you have a design for WP that includes mysticism, please set me straight. I love to be proven wrong.
My aim isn't anybody right or wrong but to clarify ...
Enlightenment is the antithesis of superstition, IMHO. Religious like Teilhard De Chardin push the boundaries of knowledge beyond dogma but reconciles it with his faith. Even a man of science like Einstein chose to see everything as a miracle when he was aware he could have chosen to see no miracle in the Universe at all.
As for mysticism, St. Francis of Assisi, Buddha & Lao tze, among others, promoted peace by principle, life & example.
No one has a monopoly of WP & social justice or even enlightenment & I'm happy you haeven't said that enlightenment isn't equivalent to atheism either. In the same way, there are no monopolies of assholes, pedophiles, suicide bombers, terrorists, genocidal maniacs & hypocrites. My enemy isn't religion, atheism or ideology but monopolies in any form & of any kind & assholes who play God & assert them.
No one has a monopoly of WP & social justice or even enlightenment & I'm happy you haeven't said that enlightenment isn't equivalent to atheism either. As one who sees atheism as an almost expected response to the current religious climate, discarding what we have been presented with, making it possible to remember what has been lost for the past few centuries, apatheism as a "who cares" response is too big a step back. We are body, mind & spirit. Those who don't care about the body get sick, those who don't care about the mind get stupid and those who don't care about spirit will feel alone, for it's likely spirit doesn't care about them.
I find when most people say "religion is bad" are really saying that "the major fundamentalist religions that seek to exert both political and moral control over multitudes are bad." Try this on...evolution (still a theory, by the way) and reincarnation fit hand in glove. If a soul needs to go thru lifetimes to mature then it is reasonable this is mirrored by physical evolution. Don't be hypnotized by the fundies and think they're the only alternative and throw the gods out with the garbage.
I have to agree with you...mostly. Not caring whether or not there is a god is one thing, but trying to substitute god for science is quite another. "Creationists" would love to remove evolution from our schools but how helpful would that be to discovering how the universe works. THAT would be counter productive. Without pushing the limits to find out "why" we would still be throwing rocks at one another, not planning trips to Mars. Religion still needs fought against!
exactly there was a time when people needed to explain the world in what they believed things to be in their times, most of those beliefs are no longer applicable today.

You were pretty racist with the Allah part and I was a little confused since Yahweh and Allah are the same God just different names.
Frodo2433 2 years ago
Yahweh and Allah are not the same God.
RoninKorii 2 years ago
It even says so in the Qur'an.
Frodo2433 2 years ago
Well they also believe that Jesus didnt die on the cross regardless of his divinity. They also believe that Jesus wasnt the massiah when he fulfilled all of the messianic prophecies. (theres around 300 of them) Jesus was the son of God and he was conscious of his divinity. He forgave sins and nobody does that except God. If you want to know who Jesus really was instead of some rumors then read the gospels. JESUS SAID "No one comes to the Father EXCEPT through me." John 11:25-26
RoninKorii 2 years ago
Hmm mlbfans point is a good one. Let me start by saying I BELIEVE IN GOD. Now, belief is not a behavior its a group of ideas, which modifies behavior. To categorize anyone group of people (save cults and fanatics) as all being the same is a racist frame of mind no matter how you look at it. My point is all of this is pointless atheist dont believe and of course believers do. So who wins? I'll tell you who wins we all do,cause its our right to believe whatever the hell we want to.
silvaramajere 2 years ago
Secondly, faith or the lack of is a personal choice. No one should be attacked for their beliefs so long as they are not harmful. There is no such thing as all christians or all atheist. That is unless you guys wanna become the borg, which I kinda like free will.
silvaramajere 2 years ago

bikermandandy 2 years ago
@mlbfan3 : yeah, because black people have a choice to be white right? And because being asian means that you believe in a bunch of brain dead lies. Asians also spread lies to innocent white people who will turn Asian too if they swallow it. Remember kids, having a different ethnic backgroung is morally wrong and it means you're ignorant!

@mlbfan3 do you know how much war religion has caused??? if there is a god why is he testing us to see if we pick the right religion?? in my opinion god is just as bad as being a racist
falsehope444444 7 months ago

PennyRoyaleTea 2 years ago
The 72 virgin myth existed long before 911
Justinfhtube 2 years ago
thats true about that useless debate I mean.
theists also close the debate by claiming god is just not reasonable in a rational/scientific way and so is the faith while scientists like dawkins think naturalisticly.
theres also a problam about the distinction of atheists and antitheists.
drag54on 2 years ago
There is a shit ton of closet athiests and agnostics too. They're just too scared to admit it
shamrock0351 2 years ago
... maybe i'm an atheist, then again i don't care, what good is that going to do, extra points for believing something does or doesn't exist?
uncabronusername 2 years ago 2
I agree with you exactly. I really don't care if there is a god. If there is, there is a small chance I will worship the right one. If there is a god i really doubt he will care if I go to church or fudgeback. If he created the universe he has a lot more to deal with than what I do in my day to day life.
Fuckthenazipunks 2 years ago
Refuse to be labeled. You cannot prove whether or not such an entity exists, so ultimately atheists and theists believe in something out of faith they possibly even don't fully comprehend. All the fuzz about labeling people is so that they distance themselves from each other and point out "how we are correct and you are the bad guys... so you should die, etc" Just imagine how the world would be today if there weren't any labels for people.
uncabronusername 2 years ago 7
Knowing & believeing r 2 diff things.
Justinfhtube 2 years ago
Indeed they are, knowledge is a quality that a person receives with time and from their own free will, blind faith is something that is quite often imposed on an individual and with the right numbers and direction can be quite dangerous as history has shown.

Well, we can't blame God for the imperfections of man. Man has been given the freedom to make choices for himself.

I believe this man comes across as a well informed very articulate person who has done his research, rather then just taking on beliefs of any religion just because he was born into it and it's the right thing to do......
evpchick 2 years ago

AtomAppleOMGizzle 3 years ago 2
So all creeds come together, for we are not defined by our beliefs, but by one simple word: humanity. And together, we can work wonders.

Peace & may our tribes increase!

bumiputrax - You Rock! I'm stoked that you took the time to contribute your ideas to the discussion. Peace!
PursuitOfTruth 3 years ago
Why be anti-religious? If it really is the opiate of the masses, it was because at the time, the poor couldn't afford a drink or a fix. Mutha, you give apatheists like myself who strive for social justice a bad name. That's why I respect religious people like Mo. Teresa of Calcutta, Gandhi & M.L. King as well as atheists like Bertrand Russell & Larry Flynt.
bumiputrax 3 years ago
I see religion, or mysticism, as the antithesis of enlightenment. I am a strong proponent of World Peace, and this I am because, unlike so many people that I talk to, I can actually visualize WP. But WP needs a world full of enlightened people. Thus religion, or mysticism, would need to be eradicated.
If you feel that religion is, in fact, not the antithesis of enlightenment, or, if you have a design for WP that includes mysticism, please set me straight. I love to be proven wrong.
PursuitOfTruth 3 years ago
My aim isn't anybody right or wrong but to clarify ...
Enlightenment is the antithesis of superstition, IMHO. Religious like Teilhard De Chardin push the boundaries of knowledge beyond dogma but reconciles it with his faith. Even a man of science like Einstein chose to see everything as a miracle when he was aware he could have chosen to see no miracle in the Universe at all.
As for mysticism, St. Francis of Assisi, Buddha & Lao tze, among others, promoted peace by principle, life & example.
bumiputrax 3 years ago
No one has a monopoly of WP & social justice or even enlightenment & I'm happy you haeven't said that enlightenment isn't equivalent to atheism either. In the same way, there are no monopolies of assholes, pedophiles, suicide bombers, terrorists, genocidal maniacs & hypocrites. My enemy isn't religion, atheism or ideology but monopolies in any form & of any kind & assholes who play God & assert them.
bumiputrax 3 years ago

As one who sees atheism as an almost expected response to the current religious climate, discarding what we have been presented with, making it possible to remember what has been lost for the past few centuries, apatheism as a "who cares" response is too big a step back. We are body, mind & spirit. Those who don't care about the body get sick, those who don't care about the mind get stupid and those who don't care about spirit will feel alone, for it's likely spirit doesn't care about them.
Wyrdmaven 3 years ago
I find when most people say "religion is bad" are really saying that "the major fundamentalist religions that seek to exert both political and moral control over multitudes are bad." Try this on...evolution (still a theory, by the way) and reincarnation fit hand in glove. If a soul needs to go thru lifetimes to mature then it is reasonable this is mirrored by physical evolution. Don't be hypnotized by the fundies and think they're the only alternative and throw the gods out with the garbage.
Wyrdmaven 3 years ago
By the way, great music! Who is it, where did you get it, where can I find it? LOL!
tecnoblix 3 years ago
I have to agree with you...mostly. Not caring whether or not there is a god is one thing, but trying to substitute god for science is quite another. "Creationists" would love to remove evolution from our schools but how helpful would that be to discovering how the universe works. THAT would be counter productive. Without pushing the limits to find out "why" we would still be throwing rocks at one another, not planning trips to Mars. Religion still needs fought against!
