  • I just uploaded a video I recorded of music from the Nutcracker played on piano by 20th century modern classical music composer, Professor Walter S. Hartley. It was his last selection at his final piano recital before he retired from teaching at SUNY Fredonia, March 1, 2000, Adams Art Gallery, Dunkirk, NY.

  • You should invest in a proper microphone (and lubricate that stool!).

  • I guess I'm not the only one who thinks that Pletnev's arrangement is better than the original.

  • that's just soo beautiful ! 5*

btw, where did you get the sheet music from?

  • bravo!

  • wow!!! niceee!!!!!!!! I feel so sad to have stopped my piano lessonS... Pfff!.... I hope i'll continue after my university studies...! Teachers was sayig that i'm talented...

  • tOmalin ---- EXCELLENT performance! BRAVO! I had chills down my spine.... Thanks for sharing this with us.

  • Wow. That's some amazing playing. I'd hardly describe it as adagio though, haha. ;-)

  • WOW, so great!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • God I rate u 5!!

  • TEN stars!

  • I just love your way of playing the music.

    Kindly Jeanette Flittner

  • homophobic much? what matters is that he can play really well..

  • These comments remind me why Youtube is a pigsty for idiots.

This video reminds me why I come to Youtube in the first place.

  • hey, i'm sry didn't want actually to offence, i rly like how u play piano...who wouldn't want to play like you?let's just say that i was in a weird mood back then, and it's quite normal for people to be wrong...cheers

  • where is adagio in sleeping beauty? which act and and where?

  • Hi,

The grand pas de deux is in the last act. Look for "grand pas de deux of sleeping beauty". The adagio is the first part of this, and goes before the prince and aurora's variations. =)

  • @morinoroba I concur.

  • Its so beautiful that I listen to this everyday before I go to work to have this beautiful piece in my head all day. I prefer so many ballet tunes on a piano rather than a full orchestra. Could you play the Rose Adagio from Sleeping beauty?

  • You're a great musician!! Keep practicing.. :)

  • this is the most beautiful thing i ever heard it´s really beautiful and magical

  • Wonderful! Superb!

  • Stunning! Bravo! TY.

P.S.-His nutcracker suite is also glorious!

  • Speechless:)

  • how hard is this song?

    harder than fantasie impromptu?

  • fantasie impromptuis much easyer than this

  • Amazing song, amazing played!

  • Amazing! You're playing perfectly!!!

    The same, Bravo!

  • Beautiful! Hearing the Sleeping Beauty pas de deux on the piano touched me deeply. That hasn't happened when I've heard this piece done by an orchestra. There were moments in your performance that caused my heart to race and chills to creep up my spine.

    Bravo!

  • I'm delightful for your comment.

    Thank you very much.

I also think, this arrangement is more beautiful than original orchestra version.

    Pletenev is genius!

  • London Bridge is falling down falling down falling down

Poi s'ascose nel foco che gli affina

Quando fiam uti chelidon—O swallow swallow

Le Prince d'Aquitaine a la tour abolie

These fragments I have shored against my ruins

Why then Ile fit you. Hieronymo's mad againe.

Datta. Dayadhvam. Damyata. Shantih Shantih Shantih

  • The Db scale is the most glorious moment...makes the heart race dosent it!

  • Thank you for posting this rare piece. Great performance for an amateur. Why don't you post more of your performances?

  • I loved your playing. Where are you from?

  • Thank you for your comment.

    I'm a Japanese.

  • Sheer genius! Thank you.. :-)

  • Beautiful, bravo!

  • Pletnev-Liszt-Busoni...BRAVI! Loved it. Hope you post more. Does NOT sound easy to play

  • I think it needs better audio and more emotion :) LOLOLOL that 8th octive C scared me so much

  • i loved this, i'd never heard of the "sleeping beauty suite" but i think you played it very well, i honestly couldn't tell where you messed up. awesome arpeggios! i loved the bit maybe at like 1:30 where you span the whole breadth of the piano from the very top to the bottom and back up. by the way, what piano is this? it sounds very full, especially the treble/high...i like it. anyways, keep up the good work!

  • It's from the ballet. This is the Wedding Pas de Deux from act III

  • Are you a Pletnev pupil? The technique is reminiscent although the wrist position is higher

  • Thank You for ur musicality, for the inner clarity and intensity of your sound, so passionate and close to Ciaikovskij (I am the italian translator of Solomon VolKov Book 'Balanchine's Tchaikovsky').From where are you?

  • wow incredible!

i loved listening to you play =)

  • I like your style...better than a lot of pianists I saw on YouTube. Good Job!

  • Thank you for your comment.

I'll make further efforts to play in the future.
