I was born in RF. My amily moved away when I was in kindergarten a year or two before the sugar factory closed. When I left it was a vibrant town and when I finally returned for a visit 4years ago (after being away over 30 years) I thought "This is what happens to small towwn business when a super wal-mart opens up a couple towns over.
I wrote on the twin video for this, the original with the Sweet Baby James Taylor song. Just want to thank you for the slide show. The Rock used to be a swingin' happenin' place. Back in the day you had the small town feel because of the local people hangin' out together, but it was also a central town for a lot of smaller town kids to meet. I'm so glad I grew up there, but kind of sad to see it shrinking. Nonetheless Rocky Pride....Long Live the Mighty Meloneers!!
The music to the video gives it a sense of surrealism. A sadness really ... Rocky Ford was once a very desirable place to live. It was a booming community some 50 years ago. Now I fear the future for RF is grim. No jobs, more drugs, lack of C O M M U N I T Y!!
thnx for the video, I grew up in Rocky. I've been away for ten years now. 8 years overseas in the military, now go to school and I live in LA. small town life is kinda nice at times
I was born there and left after HS and now live in Orlando, Florida. The amazing thing about the video is that I remember Rocky Ford as being bigger. But it was great to be able to go back in time. Both my parents lived there until they both passed. Thank you so much for the video, it felt like going back in time.
Well jerryg65, I still live in the area (on a farm about half an hour north of Rocky Ford) and I gotta disagree. I'm gonna have to say ten years of drought did it in for Picnics on Holbrook and camping trips on Timber, not computers and video games.
oh man the memories of that place... my grandma still lives there.. i loved goin to that lake that was nearby... like right next to that town swink i forgot the name of it though...
That was Lake Holbrook , and I loved it too . Families would take picnic lunches , swim , and make a day of it . Of course , this was before the days of computors and video games .
It's a great little town. Coming from a big metropolitan area it is nice to go there and escape. The video was much better before they made me change the music though. The old song (Our Town by James Taylor) was much more fitting.
thumbs up if you muted it

Very sad but probably universal truth about small towns in America these days.
