  • I was listening to a hardstyle song and Lord of Conquest and all of a suddent I heard Pious voice say "I am your Lord and Conqueror" I was like ohh s***

damn how many lines from video games do you know that are quoted or appear in songs?

    this game is so unique

also you can hear edward roivas saying something check it out

  • Did someone order a LARGE HAM?!

  • The absolute masterstroke here is that, when he gets to the very final entry - the one for the Ulyaoth Guardian - after alternating between screams of protest, panicked laughter, and anguished sobs, Maximilian's tone reverts at last to one of utter, deathly calm. It seems far more horrific than any of the entries that came before, because it seems to symbolize the utter loss of hope and his acceptance of the horrific slaughter of the people of Ehn'gha - and the approaching doom of humankind.

  • every time i hear him speak of these, one cannot help but laugh at his tone changes and what he sais

  • This is what Deckard Cain would sound like if he out of his noggin, bat shit insane.

"Stay a while a listen... Uuh... Do you hear it? That... wailing shriek... SHRIEK!!!" *faints*

  • Don't you?

  • Trappers - the cute little odd creatures that you love at first, but grow to hate. lmao

  • Only BRIAN BLESSED could give a hammier performance.

  • Gotta love the tone of disbelief in his voice on some of the horrors and guardians when it came to their anatomy.

One other thing that I thought was an interesting detail was the change in his voice depending on the alignment of the creature.

He sounds fearful for Chattur'gha, insane for Xel'lotath(duh) and a mix between grim and understanding for Ulyaoth.

  • @Tunaria

Hmm, I never noticed that. I think you're right though.

  • @Tunaria I thought so too!

  • "A mockery of reason, both, natural and mental...

A blasphemy from beyond the veil."

That, changed my life like no other dialogue from a game ever did.

Eternal Darkness is such an awesome game...

  • @BluelightSpike

This game changed my life too, man. It gave me a greater appreciation for Lovecraft for sure, as I am more of a visual person and it gave me the images I needed. They don't make games like this anymore.

  • @moseslmpg

They didn't make games like this before, either.

  • @BluelightSpike Absolutely. The delivery, the line itself... It was sterling work.

  • Madness is often too easily hammed up... William Hootkins, your delivery was absolutely brilliant. You are missed.

  • i remember when i was young and played this game. this was by far my favorite part. thanks for the upload

  • 3:27

    Oh god.

    *flashback*

--Shadow Temple in Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time--

Shadow's Wrath: "Well, this isn't so ba--"

    *WALLMASTER*

    ._.

  • the writing voice acting and game are all fantastic every peice of diolouge in every sence and these atoupies are amazing really capturing the insaity of the game

  • Very cool but you missed out the trapper. It's quite hard to get in game so I'll forgive you.

  • @JallenMeodia

I know, I know. Thousands of people have told me I missed the Trapper, but thankfully someone posted a response video with it. Then unfortunately it was taken down. Alas.

  • @moseslmpg Wait, you can do an autopsy on trappers?? O.o I did not know this. Do explain...

  • @kenkarsonn Yeah, I didn't know either, which is why I never put up a video for it. But someone put up a response video for it, with the autopsy, and then it was taken down. Apparently, if you kill the Trapper in the kitchen or wherever, you can run ove to it quickly before it disappears and autopsy it. There is only one variation of Trapper autopsy.

  • when he says "for play" I get a really wrong image in my head o_o;;

and is it just me, or when Pious talks to Alex..he sounds rather..perverted?

  • RIP William Hootkins

  • "When the darkness came..."

I love how he said that.

  • Great VO work. GREAT VO ACTING.

  • "EHN'GHA!"

I love Max's voice actor. Such a memorable voice that I still remember.

  • I can't find the clip of when Max Roivas went completely mental and shot all his servants while they were sleeping.

  • @TheAnxiousMan

I don't think that was a cutscene you could select in the game. It was more of an event. In any case, I can't record it anymore.

  • @moseslmpg yeah it was ...

  • love this game

  • This game made me crazy... and i liked it. O__o

  • These sound bytes were probably the interviews in the asylum he was in when they ask about these autopsies.

  • @LordSpleach

Yeah, that's what I think too. Like, he was being evaluated by the psychiatrist, who was baffled by the relative coherence and realism which he manifested in his delusions.

  • @moseslmpg That's what I was thinking, I bet he was truly baffled in the Uly'aoth allignment....

  • I wonder what Maximillian would have said about the Greater Guardians in Oublie Cathedral, the Gatekeepers in the Forbidden City, or the variously-aligned Vampire creature in Edward's chapter. We would have had 9 more raving-mad narrations from him. Just imagine if Mantorok could have summoned all those creatures as well. I sure hope they make a sequel.

  • @jimbostube2

You know, I was wondering the same thing! This game is endlessly playable and the other mad-induced ravings from Maximilian would've made it above and beyond perfect. What is Silicon Knights afraid of? Success and more money? Too bad that William Hootkins--the voice-actor for Max's autopsies--had died in 2005 (they credited him with the overall voicing but it was actually Michael Bell, whom did other various voices including Peter Jacob). Oh why, why, why isn't there a SEQUEL?!

  • Imagine Father Grigori speaking these.

  • Have You Ever Played It in a Dark Room While Being Stoned ? Try It ^^

  • It'd probably actually cause insanity if done right...

  • I love it when he snorts.

  • i loved this ive listen to em so many times lip sync em and act like max XD You believe me, don't you? ....... Don't you?

  • by blade and bullet, i had to get rid of them...

    DON'T YOU UNDERSTAND?!!

    XD

  • The Most Amazing Horror gaming experience ever...

  • "innocence can be tainted, never returned"

haha! that is SOO true though! eg. that whore lyndsy lohan! XD

  • This is the game that made me play horror games.

  • eyes? rot their eyes...! I like that line

  • a fantastic voice acting..... sane...insane....ironic and chilling at the same time!!!

  • Truly, this is one of the most underrated games in years. God, I hope there's a sequel, WITH the original team.

  • "You believe me, don't you? Uh? Don't you?" This actually made me laugh!

  • Damn you, listen to me!!!"

  • If famous horror writer H.P Lovecraft could design a game, this is approximately it right here.

  • Yup, the people who made the game claimed that they were basing it off of H.P Lovecraft's works and writings. They hit it spot on.

  • A truly Lovecraftian masterpiece.

  • Lovecraft in everything but name.

  • Sequel or even remake. Such a fantastic game that didn't got the spotlight it deserved!

  • May the rats eat your eyes! The Darkness Comes! It will damn us all!

And I want a damn sequel Silicon Knights! Please be working on it!

  • Supposedly, they were going to do a trilogy of Too Human first... but seeing as how that tanked, perhaps they'll cut to the chase and get to the Eternal Darkness sequels they promised.

  • I love hearing this man talk. It's chilling. I'm at working looking around for Horrors. LOL! "You believe me don't you? Don't you?"

  • They removed the video with the Trapper autopsy due to a a terms of use violation.

  • That bad, huh?

  • It tore open the veil of reality...thats why. I know, I've seen it. I can't unsee it, MAY THE RATS EAT YOUR EYES!!

  • I'd rather eat the rats than let them eat my eyes.

  • "You believe me, don't you? Don"t you?"

    Chilling.

  • The voice acting on Eternal Darkness was mostly excellent.

  • "I could SMELL THEM you See!"

    :D

Ah, So much, Narm, yet so much Disturbing...

  • "Their existence was but a dying echo, shrieking from violated mouths, resounding within their homes, their tombs..."

Great writing. One of the scariest games of all time.

  • One of the best games of all time.

  • Yeah, one of the best games for gamecube. I agree with you. ^ ^

  • Or as Max would say. "Would I be pulled from my peacefull slumber of death to be used as parts for a monstrocity without mind or heart or soul! Never! I would set myself aflame and consign my body to ash before I let the vile tentacles of Xel'lotath touch it! I would not assist their plots in life and I refuse to allow my body to do so in death!

  • Guardian of Xel'lotath is the most frightening to me. Because it looks slightly human. The other guardians give me a sense of horror, but this one also gives me a sense of tragedy. Because it looks like humans were killed and their body parts used to make the monster. If I had to face one of those I would wonder, "If it kills me, will my body parts be used to make another like it?"

  • His mood during the autopsies seems to change with the alignment of the monster.

    Chattur'Gha: Frightened

    Xel'Lotath: Insane

    Ulayoth: Knowing

  • Yeah! And his mood alligns with what each anicent affects!

    Ulayoth: magic, hence knowlegde

    Chattur'Gha: strengh, hence fear

    Xel'Lotath: sanity, hence insanity

  • The actor who did the voice of Max did an outstanding job. Campy, but still great to listen to. Creepy as hell, too.

  • When you hear this, you'll shit bricks.

  • mmm so bonethieves smells like vanilla, tasty

  • EHN'GHA!!

  • HAVE AT THEE

  • The lines about "gobbets of meat" (for the Chattur'gha guardian) and "no heads, no organs" (for the Xel'lothath guardian) are not only masterfully delivered, but masterfully written. Whoever wrote the dialogue for the game, especially for Max's autopsies, is a genius. I wish all games could have writing and voice acting half as good as Eternal Darkness's.

  • Agreed. He's a real joy to listen to. So sad that his voice actor passed away, though. :(

  • I like how they tried to go for how people would have spoken or written about the monsters in the 1700's (For those who haven't been lucky enough to play the game, this is Max Roivas' era).

  • i love max he's insane XD

  • I could smell them you see! No but serously... Holy crap! This is the best voice acting... Is it acting or did they grab a guy from the insaine asylum?

  • Believe it or not, they got the actor who played Porkins on Star Wars! His voice acting is amazing. :)

  • I say again: Max is Thorough

  • The voice acting and the writing in this game are some of the best in video game history, but the autopsies are the absolute pinnacle!

This is more than a great video game, it's a work of art.

  • Did you know the guy who did this played Porkins in Star Wars? ^_^

  • Yes! When my friends watch Star Wars, Me and half of my friends scream "May the rats eat your TIES!" and the other half of my friens think we're crazy."

  • The horrors are pretty tough.

  • I Could SMELL THEM, you see!"

    Oh My.

    Our Savior is insane.

  • Read the video description before you comment. That is generally a wise practice.

  • I didn't say anything mean to you, whereas you here now call me a jerk. Hopefully you won't find it necessary to call people who are trying to help you jerks in the future. It is unwise and impractical to project your own ignorance onto others.

To read a description, you go to the description pane next to the video. It is gray. next to the date, in bold, there is a link that says "More info." Click it once and the description will expand.

    You are welcome.

  • Well it typically helps to not be a fucking moron, but then again, I suppose I'm asking for a lot from you. You see, I'm the one being the "meanie" and your posts truly justify it.

  • your hard to apologize to i mean i try to say im sorry and you insult me again.... you really are mean..... and this is all over a game i played when i was in highschool.... oh and dont take the meanie comment seirous i call all my friends meanie..... even people i dont know like you but i always say it in a sarcastic tone.... and how can you call me a moron..... so i didnt know how to read the more info thingy..... doesnt mean im a moron.... im sure there are alot of things you cant do....

  • porca misseria

  • Love it. The line "Oh gibbering insanity" has stuck with me since I first played the game.

  • Question: Do you need to have the Autopsy Log completed to get the special ending for the game? I accidentally missed the Xel'lotath Horror autopsy.

  • Nope, you don't.

  • Nice going now I'm gonna have nightmares tonight. ):<

  • Max Roivas reminds me Marlon Brando.

    the horror....THE HORROR!

  • The voice acting is so amazing it sent chills through my mortal being. This all is like the rightings of H.P. Lovecraft.

  • Good Ol Maximillian was by far my favorite character, he so crazy!

  • awesome vid, but you forgot the trapper autopsy. you can find a lone trapper with Max in the kitchen, its crawling on the floor in front of the table when you first enter (you wont be able to see it, but its there, it makes that weird noise). The best strategy is to shoot it from the door as soon as you enter, Dont even move, just shoot it, so you dont lose the chance to autopsy it. hope this helps, (please post it up, i'd really like to see it, dont have my gamecube anymore, its a good one too)

  • ther is so much work of HP lovecraft is punt in tis game,en it makes game zo good

  • i acually thaught about that too, it all looks and sounds like something out of The Call of Cthulu

  • thats awesome, thats the first thing i said when i played the game

  • Also note that the game takes place in Rhode Island. That sure as hell is a nod to Lovecraft.

  • I think it´s very influenced by Edgar Allan Poe´s writing as well don´t you think?

  • That, but mostly influenced by H.P. Lovecraft. That type of writing is very similar to the kind he used in his horror novels.

  • It's Resident Evil on Silent Hill carefully blended with HP Lovecraft's writings carefully edited by Edgar Allan Poe.

  • Without a doubt the best voice-acting ever. You really can hear the insanity in his voice...those three months really got the best of him :-)

  • No doubt!!!

  • Best feature in the games. Poor Max musta been REALLY foaming at the mouth when he made these commentary things. I absolutely LOVE this game!

  • Bee Great

  • the autopsies definitely added a hint of black humour into this excellent game. his ramblings have to be taken with a pinch of salt as it is quite overly dramatic. still, the descriptions undoubtedly add to the horror of the game nontheless.

  • oh! a sequel!...i've seen it...believe meeeee...wait a moment!...it will never be launched...NEVER!!...oh god...give us the bless of another eternal darknes...please...PLEASEEE!!

  • these videos remind me why i love this game so much

  • HAVE AT THEE

    *Mad laugh*

    xD

  • Aah, the good ol' horror. They were honestly fun, especially when you summon them, when control ends bind them, when that ends they won't have the HP to survive a single bullet. :D I want one of them.

  • great game one of the best for the cube. i loved maximillans chapter it was my favourit! thanks for the videos ;)

  • Seriously excellent game. I need to rebuy this

  • This guy reminds me of Gollum somehow.

  • yeah, the incessant mumbling and jittering and pretty much everything... he's more Smeagol to me.

  • the voice acting is some of the best I've EVER heard!

  • this guy must be pretty BA to kill all of these tihngs and get autopsies

  • Actually the game spans three diferent timelines, so realy the autopsies are a compilation of examinations done by the three diferent Maxamillions.

  • LOL, yes, pretty BA indeed.

  • You missed the Trapper. But great video.

  • I didn't know it existed when I played the game, since I could never get to them before they disappeared. It's very strange that there is only one.

  • I think it is because all three trappers are exactly the same, just different colors, right?

  • No, they look a little different. I put a link to the Trapper in the video description

  • whoa, this guy is fucked up

  • OMFG, ranting

  • Puts the acting in MGS to shame.

  • Even though the voice acters in MGS:TTS and MGS1 are in this game (Paul Eiding - Colonel Campbell and more....) Max's voice acting rules!

  • I actually meant the writing. You will not find writing this good in any butchered Japanese game. Final Fantasy, hang your head in shame.

  • Ah okay, just to mention this but did you know that the guy who did Maxs' voice played Jet Porkins in Star Wars Ep4 A new Hope? But he passed away in 2005 i believe....

Poor guy, god rest his soul

  • Best video game writing ever. And delivered by an incredibly talented actor to boot.

  • I kind of like that little partial skull that blinks, because it almost seems to be looking at Max and going "WTF is wrong with THAT guy?"

  • All of the skull open their eyes, depending on which section of the menu you are on. But yeah, ti is kind of funny.

  • great, brilliant voice acting. It's a pity that this voice actor died in 2005...

  • No way. I guess that rules him out for ED2...

  • I DID buy a Gamecube just for this game :D

Now it's really unexpensive... well, now I guess I'll check RE 4, but my target was Eternal Darkness. I really don't care it's not officially based on Lovecraft, the plot & atmosphere is SO Mythos.

  • All these creatures and Cities are very HP Lovecraft...seriuosly must refer to him

  • Yeah, the game makes it clear that it took most of its inspiration from Lovecraft. It's great to have a game like it. If only there were others.

  • there is....Call of Cthulhu...based heavyly on H.P Lovecraft stories

  • If I remember correctly, the detective at the beginning of the game shares a part of his name with that of a character from the Mythos. However, I only have a beginners grasp of said Mythos.

  • Yep. The inspector's name is the same name as the inspector in "The Call of Cthulu", LeGrasse.

  • there dosnt seem to be any of teh trapper or was tehre a trapper one, i cant remember its been ages sice i completed it.

  • BEST VOICE INA A VIDEO GAME EVER!!!

  • I could SMELL them you see...

  • It has no eyes... It has no eyes...

  • HAVE AT THEE!!!

  • Its all about ulyaoth he should be the best of the best of the anicents.

  • The Universe is a yawning chasm, filled with emptiness and the purile meanderings of sentience...

  • "They feed on US!!!" Glad I'm not living in the US :P

God, this voice actor needs to be hired for the next Lovecraft movie. He does it brilliantly! (it scared my pants off with his madness - sadly he wasn't scientifically brilliant with the descriptions :P)

  • For his time, and considering he was in the midst of a sanity draining cosmic battle, I think his descriptions were pretty good.

  • Max is sure mad now -w- however how did u record theese vids?

  • Hook my digicam up to the TV Out outlets, record, transfer to the computer using WMM.

  • The funny thing is that Max's voice actor, William Hootkins, is also the infamous "Red Six" or Porkins, from Stars Wars IV: A New Hope.

  • ^

True, they deserve an Oscar :P

  • Brilliant. Eternal Darkness easily had one of the best voice-casts of any game ever, but the Autopsy Rantings really take the biscuit as greatest videogame voice acting EVER.
