  • Something about PT that sort of brings out the best in you... it's like, you need to earn their music, it's precious and you need to be deserving of it... I feel like, if you like them, then in some way, you're isolated, and yet we come here to regroup and rejoin in a like minded communion - the isolated are here together!

  • Haha, the video description is sooo cool.

  • "The deafness of your silence." Brilliant.

  • loooong time ago i was at a friends place he put up the first PT album on, and i was sold!

Its like old memories, PT will capture it in timeless tunes

  • I 've been following PT for many years now and this is still my favourite track of theirs. Brilliant.

  • U are Greaat Man Mr Steven Wilson !

  • Just recently found this band courtesy of a friend. This is pretty amazing. Must check out their stuff. WOW.

  • This tune Rocks!!

  • My favorite song from them so far.

It's weird their frist couple albums were a bit spacy with electronic sound. I like the acoustic feel on here, makes the song very warm :)

    Fav band ever!!

  • 5:09 begins the epic solo

  • SW & PT are the best!!I think NO man is very good too . Blackfield is worse than PT.

If you love music like that(PT) find Riverside they are incredible! MD(Mariusz Duda) is very good like SW!!!

  • I LOVE THIS SONG!!!! Such an amazing song!!!!

  • Anyone is has chords/tab for this song ?

  • @XeroXes1 the basic verse is A D A C then the chorus is D A C G . You'll have to play along to the song to get the strumming parts down but, its fairly simple and the solo isn't too hard either.

  • @xRazgriz Thats why I love PT They show that you only need a good ear and patience to make great music. Good because my fguitar skills is sorely lacking.

  • @PennyDreadful1 hi RUSH is mostly played in A 440, leaning a lot on the E chord.

  • @manfromregina Cool

  • Cover fail.

  • I like this song, perhaps because I feel connected to it.. Its like you are prone to boredom on many things, including love. How depressing this song is to me, hey, at least it's trippy.

  • incredible, truly.

  • i dont know why the people (in the prog style) say that the best band is DT, i know that DT is awesome, but wait, they forget all this band like; opeth, PT, Marillion, planet x, ETC.

i have this CD in a special pack, with a DVD (mix in 5.1) i have to say that is one of the best album that i have bought

  • This is a great song! I've only started listening to them this evening but love what i've heard so far. I've now bought a couple of their albums so hopefully i'll like them and then i'll buy the rest!! Good stuff...

  • I love to listen this song when high, I close my eyes and deep guitars sweep me away

  • 2004 version -

    /watch?v=11TgfNz53SI

  • Love a good porcupine tree (quote from Big Ed's G Friend and BFF)

  • Is it just me, or does this sound a lot like "Dark Matter"

  • @RRgoalie37 Does a bit, doesn't it!

  • i don't care about if pt or anythin is the greatest band or whatever. i just love them that's enough to me... and this song is beautiful. and true from my perspective

  • johnny dream theater is pretty damn talented with lots of great ideas i just cant stand the singer sometimes like a lot of people...

  • I've seen them live twice. Met them at my hotel the 2nd time. GREATEST band of all time people!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Wow

  • oh and of course opeth is the one band besides PF that can compare to pf's genious

  • @ItOffishul *pt

  • @ItOffishul what about dream theater?

  • @JohnnydeKing29 fuck dream theater. best part of the band was the drummer and he bounced haha.

  • of all the prog bands i get recommended similar to pt riverside is the one thats grabbed me the least although theyre decent. i like pineapple thief, pure reason revolution, katatonia, and especially any of the more experimental pink floyd stuff best

  • @ItOffishul ok im into riverside now sorry i misspoke haha theyre great

  • BECAUSE YOUR HERE, HERE WITH ME NOW!

  • This is utterly superb.

  • i never got high and listen to this band, a great disappointment. Hell any drugs my bicycle and this band wouldve been awesome, on a sidenote, appearently he said the russian apache indian doesnt have to hold his hands up, love htis guy

  • @olhedeus what the hell are you talking about? your commetns hard to follow on what your meaning to say, whos "he"

  • @PuReNiRvANA1 steven wilson, just watch southpark for the episode with a boy that has a dot on his head

  • @olhedeus i know what you mean.

  • @othermyriah hallelujah, no more baby shiva sooner or later, unless your talking about the bicycle and the drugs

  • I feel no pain cause I'm an island...

  • this isn't on lightbulb sun

  • Mega song from a fantastic band!!!

  • awesome!!!!

  • holy shit, steven and the gang were in the ZONE when they wrote this baby

  • @skateNappreciate I'm pretty sure it was still just Steven back then.

  • @skateNappreciate Yes, they saw the sky moving sideways

  • @skateNappreciate Actually, PT started out pretty much as a one man band. On this album, Steven pretty much wrote and performed all of the instruments still. It wasn't until the next album that Porcupine Tree was more like an actual band, instead of a one man project. But yeah, this song is absolutely beautiful :) Steven wrote/writes some awesome stuff by himself.

  • @skateNappreciate Steve wrote and played everything on this album, same with the first three albums or so.

  • @skateNappreciate Actually this song was written and performed completely by Steven. At this point in Porcupine Tree's history, Wilson did everything himself. There weren't any other band members. There is a re-recording out called "Staircase Infinities" which features Gavin Harrison on drums. Just putting it out there.

  • @skateNappreciate There was no gang when he wrote this... up the downstair is HIS album... he alone was porcupine tree

  • First time I heard this magnificent tune, I was stunned by its beauty, power and sweep. Can a 90s rock song convey such emotion, such pain and pathos that it moves a grown man to tears? Oh yeah. What this song communicates is why we love music and must listen to it. Porcupine Tree is, in my humble opinion, the best band of the 90s and 00s, and one of the best bands of all time. "In Absentia" and "Up The Downstair" are my favorites. I.............am in awe.

  • when i first saw porcupine tree, this song stuck out to me and i was an instant fan, their style was something i was into i love it to this day!!!!! it made a 10 hour trip from san diego worthwhile!!!!!!!!!

  • unbeleivably wonderful, the different contrast, i love it!!!!!!!!!

  • i had visions hearing this music

  • @may99surround Same

  • @TheMisodoctakleidist And dream theater!

  • @senecadawg2 dream theather lol ahh no, more like riverside

  • @PuReNiRvANA1 Riverside all day.

  • @TheMisodoctakleidist you got it dude, you got it

  • @TheMisodoctakleidist If you like Porcupine Tree and Opeth i guarentee you will like Katatonia. Their song My Twin is just the best song ive heard in years

  • @muntificator

Yes, I also love Katatonia. :)

  • @TheMisodoctakleidist Sorry, I love PT, but I don't get Opeth

Maybe because PT started as psychadelic band, but turned into prog metal, but Opeth always played metal

I mostly dislike metal in general, but love psychadelic music

And I generally dislike loud music

  • @gogolplex74 Take a listen to Opeth's album Damnation. It's completely prog rock, and their only non-metal album. Plus, Steven's fingerprints are all over it (he produced it). :)

  • @TheMisodoctakleidist Nahhh, that would have to be Rush and Porcupine Tree.

  • @TheMisodoctakleidist Opeth? They may be alright but don't ever compare them with Porcupine Tree. Porcupine Tree is Eargasmic music.

  • @TheMisodoctakleidist Opeth!?!?!! C'mon man! The only band which comes in the league of Porcupine Tree is Pink Floyd. Both of them are almost equal, with a slight advantage to Floyd IMO! (:

  • this is a different side of PT than the one I'd like to compare with Opeth. In Absentia was the album that came out around the time Steven Wilson collaborated with Mikael Akerfeldt on Blackwater Park. From that point it seems like PT became less psychadelic and more metal, all the while staying progressive and other-wordly.

I think that nothing can top the album Deadwing

  • Awesome, mind-blowing, kick-ass tune. I LOVE it. Thanks for the post.

  • yeah steven wilson produces opeths records and even wrote lyrics and piano in the blackwater park album. there really is alot of steven wilsons sound and structure in opeths recent albums

  • porcupine tree delivers in a way that no other band really does, the nostalgia, grace, and beauty of this song and this album is like nothing else.... you just get lost in this musical world created by steven wilson. Its like tripping on psychedelics but far more powerful and mysterious. Its too bad that no one really does this anymore.

  • @moopymen123

listen to katatonia's "the great cold distance" or opeth's "Ghost Reveries"

you'll love it, if you love this.

give nine inch nails a chance.

these three bands deliver in much a similar fashion that porcupine tree does. you'll love.

  • @OmenOfOdin Katatonia and Opeth two thumbs way up. Nine Inch Nails not so much... But ya know Johnny Cash did a cover of hurt, i like it a lot. But not the point. Also, Coheed and Cambria, not really the same feel as PT or Opeth, but to me, the same good ole' progginess that got me hooked in the first place.

  • @OmenOfOdin I agree completely. Each band, Steven Wilson with Porcupine Tree, Mikael Akerfeldt with Opeth, and Trent Reznor with Nine Inch Nails... each are on the same high level of musical creativity and expression.

  • this is beautiful:)

  • OMG--these guys have so many really good songs!!

  • this is my favourite pt album...

  • Once i saw them perform the entire incident live i was hooked on that album too. u must see it...if they come to town that is. seeing time flies live is a highlight of my life. but i wish theyd play a spacey song like this too next time i see em in detroit in may :)

  • @ItOffishul the videos for each song off the incident really puts the album into perspective i thought, and they are pure amazingness live. If anyone ever has a chance to see them.. it will probably be the best thing you could have used your money on ... EVER.

  • One of my favorite songs EVER!

  • up the downstairs album...nice song.!

  • ok, my error

  • This is not a song from the lightbulb sun album (mine is from 2008), its from the Up the downstairs

  • Look at the info.

  • NO SHIT? did you read the describtion? what? ah, of course not.

  • great guitars...frigging crazy no body makes shit like this no more.

  • there are some similarities with Radioactive Toy.

and this nostalgic feeling is really amazing...

  • This makes me miss their "spacier" days.

  • I'd have to agree with you, although, their new music is unarguably more cohesive as a whole and every bit just as amazing (if not more so). I was listening to songs like Jupiter Island today and found myself falling in love with their earlier work all over again. It's a very nostalgic, beautiful feeling.

  • Yes, but they wouldn't be so god-damned good if they didn't change with every album, would they?

That's one of the things I love about them...Each album has its own character and texture. It's all still clearly Porcupine Tree, but it never ceases to surprise and amaze.

  • Agreed! Though "The Incident" is the first album that didn't fully live up to my expectations of theirs. All of their other works, Blank Planet included, I'm in love with though. I suppose Incident might just take a little more time.

  • I agree, actually. Though to be honest, FoaBP took awhile for me to get into, as well. Though once I started to truly understand it, it became one of my favorite albums of all time.

  • it will come... It happened too me after listen it for 20-25 times... and it got better every time... The new stuff (lightbulb sun to FoaBP) was easier for me to like and understand than the earlier work... But I might like it even more...

  • Incident's grown on me lately. The title track especially.

  • haha, is that a joke?

  • I agree..! Incident is good but not like the other albums....

  • forget your worries and float away pt

  • one of my top 10 by PT, thanks for posting!!!!
