What's funny is that RuPaul was never, ever part of the Ball World of NYC. Ru ran with the Limeiight crowd, a very East Village crowd back in the day. "Touch this skin. Touch all of this skin... overgrown orangutan' is of course a line uttered by Venus Xtravaganza in 'Paris is Burning.' I would like to think that Ru pays homage to Venus, as at the time, Ru did not know Venus nor did she run with the Ball crowd.

It wasn't until 'the second ' Love Ball' of 1990 that the Harlem Ball and the East Village / Limelight Queen worlds would meet... By that time, Madonna's 'Vogue' was a hit, and the video of course featured several Xtravaganza children... As the saying goes, 'It's all good...' Just wanted to point out that quite often, RuPaul is paying homage to a world she was not part of... And it's all good.
