@Cansseco Speed yes but not sur about the clarity...it's too mechanical, nothing to have with the character of this music. She transforms every little thing into a technical challenge. It's just regrettable that pianists like her don't put their technical abilities at the service of music. What lacks in her performance is MUSIC. She does not play, she performs, she executes.
@Waldvogel91 Yes, Chopin was already playing Bach on his piano. Nothing new there. I think Scarlatti in particular is all the more thrilling on the piano. And when Martha plays, well...
She sucks! Why has she not made a full Scarlatti recording??!!!! We're getting robbed here!!! I am really enjoying here performance and she is really enjoying herself. Either that or she's thinking, "I'm going to blow them away and NEVER record any Scarlatti!" To be as old as she is and still a tease!!! Why you little nimble fingered minx!!!
@sfLoat23 Probably. A lot of pianists do that though to help bring out the melody in their heads which helps them project it more to the listener. Pollini also does it. Glenn Gould did it so much & so loudly that it was a challenge for the engineers to record him and keep it out of the finished product.
Hehe! She is the "mastress", - but have you heard Ivo Pogorelich play Scarlatti? Not that he is particularly fast, but his Scarlatti is really something.
Lim's playing is technically astonishing, but self-indulgent, superficial, and frankly tasteless. I'm posting here because only gushing comments are accepted for Lim's video - more childishness.
I´m a bit sorry for you, Morbidangel, and others, who have difficulty accepting age. (It comes to all of us). With age comes the superiority, we enjoy, - and as for her gray witch-hair, - wery few can boast of having hair of that quality. By the way, - how come, that age in women are being deplored, whilst the same mark of age is seen as a distinction when regarding men? Eh?
Of course I don't have difficulty accepting her age. (I don't know WHERE in the world you got that from) She is still a brilliant pianist, and will always be. I'm just saying that it hurts me to see her reach old age, and ultimately.. death.
notice the 'Steinway response' of the keys ... really need this to meet the demand for repetition ... those 'old' harpsichords must have been so well balanced as to make this music possible ... I really wonder whether current harpsichord makers accommodate this requirement ?
@aizendarwin : when a bow is pointed down ... veryearly on and then is concluded in a way that is not conclusive but in another way is a conclusion ... .
Catch a train in a classical style ? Train others ? Or, train yourself ? Or, you were trained ! Anyway you should still be in training as far as the piano is concerned !
yes. But she is lucky to have a piano with a heavy technique. This is hard to play on a piano where the keys do not come up quickly. That is why either steinway or bosendorfer is the best for pieces such as this.
@APatronOfTheArts (1) I suggest that you learn this piece. (2) Please answer the question: ´Are you interested in the pianist or the ochestra principal when you watch this video?´
jakbowtell and aloofistpain have absolutely no idea what they are talking about. Are you listening to the nuances she creates? You are such idiots and couldn't recognize art if it slammed you in the face.
incredible. The technique and careful thought was given to the interpretation of playing some fast notes. And the use of pedal was carefully exectuted.I just can't believe it's possible to produce this kind of effects on the piano
Oh my, she looks like she is having fun- It is incredible how she is playing at a ridiculously high technical level yet has the mien of one performing the most perfunctory of tasks
What a treat to get two different and beautiful interpretations of this classic encore from Martha. This one is a bit less technical and more musical than her famious 70's video. Love Martha!
