  • wow, I used to play this in concert, but nowhere near her speed and clarity. Incredible. !

  • @Cansseco Speed yes but not sur about the clarity...it's too mechanical, nothing to have with the character of this music. She transforms every little thing into a technical challenge. It's just regrettable that pianists like her don't put their technical abilities at the service of music. What lacks in her performance is MUSIC. She does not play, she performs, she executes.

  • Here on 3:08 we can see that it is recorded by Italian TV:) They are crazy about footwear

  • 0:18 how can they just not clapping hands? fuck you guys man!

  • I can't stop listening to it. Argerich's interpretation is so lively- marvellous stuff!!

  • Fantastic performance!!!

  • You are one sexy mama!

  • Sometimes you see the the keys pressed but no finger there, she play's like magic!

  • This piece is supposed to be played with harpsichord. I'm sorry to say that pano doesn't give me the same feeling.

  • Wenn man nur die Finger sieht, dann sieht es aus, als ob das Video bearbeitet wurde, also beschleunigt. Total verrückt!

  • I get the feeling that she has played this more than once before...

  • Didn't realise people played Baroque music on pianos.

  • @Waldvogel91 Yes, Chopin was already playing Bach on his piano. Nothing new there. I think Scarlatti in particular is all the more thrilling on the piano. And when Martha plays, well...

  • @posa2006 Ah well I never think of Bach as Baroque. Just think of him as...Bach!

    Posa as in the Marquis?

  • @Waldvogel91 anyway it's always better on the harpsichord...always!

  • @MrMimimush : Yes. The piece is there to be found.

  • @MrMimimush : Google ISMLP and follow the prompts.

  • indeed...this sonata belongs to her!

  • Aquí está un prueba de lo divino que puede ser el poder humano...

  • She sucks! Why has she not made a full Scarlatti recording??!!!! We're getting robbed here!!! I am really enjoying here performance and she is really enjoying herself. Either that or she's thinking, "I'm going to blow them away and NEVER record any Scarlatti!" To be as old as she is and still a tease!!! Why you little nimble fingered minx!!!

  • @MrNickKane I think that k141 may be the only one that she plays on the ultra high level.

  • @MrNickKane "She sucks! Why has she not made a full Scarlatti recording??!!!!"

I read an interview where she said she was afraid of the trills in Scarlatti and that's why she doesn't play a broader range of his works.

  • me cojoni!!

  • meravigliosa! stupenda! pazzesca! fenomenale! MARTHA!!!

  • fantastic!!!!!!!

  • she just played the first bar and my jaw dropped, I did not expect her to still have the speed, wow, she still got it, amazing

  • Oui, c'est magnifique et puis aussi quelle jeunesse !

  • was she... I mean, she was humming some of the notes wasn't she?

  • @sfLoat23 Probably. A lot of pianists do that though to help bring out the melody in their heads which helps them project it more to the listener. Pollini also does it. Glenn Gould did it so much & so loudly that it was a challenge for the engineers to record him and keep it out of the finished product.

  • check out my vids yall is crazy

  • ASOMBROSA COMPOSICIÓN D:

  • the best!!!

  • my favourite pianist!!! amazing talent and beautifull woman :)

  • MARTHA ARGERICH THE NUMBER ONE!

  • Hehe! She is the "mastress", - but have you heard Ivo Pogorelich play Scarlatti? Not that he is particularly fast, but his Scarlatti is really something.

  • :-D

  • but seriously. NO ONE can play this fast without making a bunch of mistakes or missing out on the notes altogether. Martha rules :D

  • @MorbidAngel4444 I love Martha, too, but listen to Hyun-Jung LIM's playing this piece on You Tube. It's marvellous...

  • Lim's playing is technically astonishing, but self-indulgent, superficial, and frankly tasteless. I'm posting here because only gushing comments are accepted for Lim's video - more childishness.

  • I understand, .....but dot fear her death yet ;-) She looks quite healthy.

  • ahaha i hope that's the case xD

  • haha i hope that's the case. cause all of a sudden she started having white hair. i got a bit worried :/

  • I´m a bit sorry for you, Morbidangel, and others, who have difficulty accepting age. (It comes to all of us). With age comes the superiority, we enjoy, - and as for her gray witch-hair, - wery few can boast of having hair of that quality. By the way, - how come, that age in women are being deplored, whilst the same mark of age is seen as a distinction when regarding men? Eh?

  • Of course I don't have difficulty accepting her age. (I don't know WHERE in the world you got that from) She is still a brilliant pianist, and will always be. I'm just saying that it hurts me to see her reach old age, and ultimately.. death.

  • Amazing. but it just hurts my heart to see her age. she's brilliant, and once a beautiful pianist.

  • OMG, fast, fast and amazing Marta, I love her performance :)

  • Un be friggin leeeeeevable.

  • not meant rude, but she looks like a stereotype "witch" :D

  • She looked better when she was in her twenties and thirties.

Nevertheless, she could conjure up some bewitching magic with a piano.

  • I'm better than she is. That's a sexy old woman.

  • thats nice!

  • no ona is better than martha argerich ¬¬

  • O_O

  • GRANDISSIMA!

    la LEONESSA del PIANOFORTE!

  • The Queen of Piano. Absolutely!

  • She gets better with age. Amazing!

  • Beautiful Martha!!

  • notice the 'Steinway response' of the keys ... really need this to meet the demand for repetition ... those 'old' harpsichords must have been so well balanced as to make this music possible ... I really wonder whether current harpsichord makers accommodate this requirement ?

  • and incidently a mobile goes off in the vibration mode but I suspect that this was when it was being uploaded ...

  • The orchestra principal did something VERY NAUGHTY. Did anyone notice?

  • @3NUNS I love the music but am ignorant of orchestral etiquette. Please tell me or I might expire from curiosity.

  • Watch everyone very closely and what they do with their hands and fingers - pianist excepted.

  • at when...?

  • @aizendarwin : when a bow is pointed down ... veryearly on and then is concluded in a way that is not conclusive but in another way is a conclusion ... .

  • Stop being so juvenile! :)

  • Why are you watching this video : Logic and Critical Thinking at the Monaco Casino !

  • I used to train classically (piano)

  • Catch a train in a classical style ? Train others ? Or, train yourself ? Or, you were trained ! Anyway you should still be in training as far as the piano is concerned !

  • Anyway you are a very very fine lady !

  • I was expecting a brromstick to appear from knowhere!

  • I think only Martha can playing this Sonata in this incredible way, using her legendary "ribattuto" .

  • omg, those extremely fast repeated notes are amazing!

does she use 3 fingers on the same key? :)

  • yes. But she is lucky to have a piano with a heavy technique. This is hard to play on a piano where the keys do not come up quickly. That is why either steinway or bosendorfer is the best for pieces such as this.

  • good observation

  • my favourite pianist

  • such a dicipline to perform this well infront of a large live audience, shes great

  • Outstanding, Argerich will take Horowitz and Rachmaninov on anyday!

  • fabuloso!!!!

  • 厲害

  • 厲害

  • we are currently at 39,654 views- most are mine!!!!!!!!

  • @APatronOfTheArts (1) I suggest that you learn this piece. (2) Please answer the question: ´Are you interested in the pianist or the ochestra principal when you watch this video?´

  • @APatronOfTheArts incredible the way she finishes!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!my god! she is goddess...

  • Beautifull play:D really well done.

  • jakbowtell and aloofistpain have absolutely no idea what they are talking about. Are you listening to the nuances she creates? You are such idiots and couldn't recognize art if it slammed you in the face.

  • They have a right to their own opinions; disagreeing with you does not make them idiots.

And, I happen to agree with jakbowtell; there wasn't too much feeling put into this performance.

  • I mean left hand

  • 1:06 just realised the best player of this piece used the right hand to play all the motif parts instead of exchanging hands

  • I didn't like it. It lacked feeling and it was too fast; it became messy. She plays it like a robot to be honest.

  • a little bit sloppy

  • what? pfft!

  • I can only say, someone does not AGE at all.

  • I love you Martha! :))

  • One in a million! No one will ever play this piece like Argerich does. Not now or in the future. Perfection! Beautiful balance of the voices.

  • perfomace by Wanda Landowska is better.

  • Mesmerising.

  • A true virtuoso, I've never been brought so much into a piece until now.

  • elle me fait rire

à peine elle s'assied qu'elle est déjà partie : P le public à tout juste eu le temps de s'assoir ^^

  • incredible. The technique and careful thought was given to the interpretation of playing some fast notes. And the use of pedal was carefully exectuted.I just can't believe it's possible to produce this kind of effects on the piano

  • Unbelievable! Even more speed and subtlety than in the much earlier version on the Yamaha. Argerich and Hofmann are unrivalled in repetitions!

  • Incredibile. Un vero virtuoso - per le epoche ...

  • la perfazione ........

lo ascolto ogni volta che mi collego e ogni volta mi domando come faccia.

    fantastica pianista

  • more beautiful than the 70' version

  • Oh my, she looks like she is having fun- It is incredible how she is playing at a ridiculously high technical level yet has the mien of one performing the most perfunctory of tasks

  • Semplicemente perfetta!!! Sei grande martha!!

  • Perfect pedal technique at 3:10

  • there is a video of her playing the very same piece when she was much younger. She is 68 y.o. and she still plays with the same freshness!

  • she actually plays at a higher tempo here, yet it is still just as clear and brilliant!

  • She still has it! Wow. Bravisimi!!

  • sooo great,

    thank you

  • Oh dear. Once again Argerich takes all to the cleaners. Is there anything she cannot do?

  • Fantastic !!! If you want to stay in the same mood listen to Sokolov playing Tic Tac Choc

  • Thank you for this recommendation! I was not familiar with Sokolov - you have expanded my pianistic world - he's one of the greats!!

  • This is piano playing!

What a suppleness and every movement is right, like with Michelangeli.

  • She is the piano.

  • WOW, WOW and WOW....AMAZING!!!!!

  • cant help but smile at the end near 3:41

  • fine because piano is perfect

  • I'd say the quality of a piano would only hinder a performance... not make one better. It's perfect because it's Argerich.

  • Amazing. Wished she played it with an actual harpsichord though, but she can play lol

  • Incredible. This is a fine, fine performance of a truly fantastic song. Scarlatti's #1!

  • A witch on the piano amazing people..

    Amazing ME

With such age doing incredible well controlled repeating notes.....She is really doing great on this particular Sonata...

  • a witch XD""

    agree with you!

  • Bellezza, perfezione. C'è dentro tutto in questo geniale sonata di Scarlatti.

Esecuzione mozzafiato! Ascoltere un'esecuzione simile è un privilegio!

    Grazie per il video!

  • Bravo

  • speechless, love martha, viva scarlatti!

  • What a treat to get two different and beautiful interpretations of this classic encore from Martha. This one is a bit less technical and more musical than her famious 70's video. Love Martha!

  • OMG! How beautifully played! The overall shape of the music is the same here as in the very timeless video, but she's added different coloring here and other nice effects!!! Aaahhh...:)

  • Scarlatti must be really impressed from above.

  • My gosh she's really amazing. I'm speechless. I LOVE Scarlatti

  • how old is she by the way.....

  • 66 i think

  • 67 actually, since 5th June 2008 (born in 1941).

  • can anyone give me tips for the tremolo parts? i can play all the rest at the right speed apart from the tremolo bits! and its really annoying!

  • master the CL.Hanon tremelo exercises, then you'l have no problems.

  • wow.....

  • wow, did you see what she does with the pedal at 3:10? Uncanny Argerich!

  • flutter pedal is very effective on a steinway and clears unwanted resonances. however it s usually onlu effective at certain times in fast musicc

  • She's still got it!!

  • my god this is better than the first one. Bravo the master of the keyboard.

  • Straordinaria Martha!!Semplicemente fantastica...
