love this song. Heard it from spanish class, but honestly that has nothing to do with this song. This song's meaning is so strong and powerful. I feel bad for him. Having such a bad childhood :/
I can relate to the song, although I never lived on the streets, I often felt abandoned. I was very poor and full of dreams. Everything just broke to pieces in front of me and I was left with less than nothing. No love, no money, no family, no friends, no one, a waste of talent and intelligence; that's how I felt. Now I'm doing a little bit better, still unemployed though.
Juanes por que cambiaste este tipo de música por canciones como el yerbatero que decepción vuelve hacer música como esta la cual refleja el estado actual de millones de personas en el mundo
the guys who made this song must be pretty pissed that it is used not to promote international awareness of poverty, but to teach english-speaking americans how to use the imperfect
@11dorisa I couldnt agree any more, but it does teach english speaking american who want to learn how to use the imperfect about poverty stricken country
I would disagree. While we did indeed use it to help further our knowledge of the Spanish language, we also took to heart these lyrics and were made aware of some conditions we were know aware of, which followed with a culture project to learn just how accurate these lyrics are. I don't think that teaching someone your language, culture, and something of the state of your fellow citizens is something to be mad about. Just my opinion though.
@11dorisa My mother lenguage is spanish, actually I come from the same country of the singer. I never thougth that american or any english speaker know this song, that's something good, it doesn't matter how you knew this song, the really important thing is that you understood it.
Here we learn englis with imegine by John Lennon, I don't belive that if John were alive he would be pissed because of that
I'm guessing they're glad so many people ARE hearing their message AND it's a tool for us gringos to hear the PRETERITE (not imperfect) with the benefit of authentic, beautiful music. I can confidently say most of my English-speaking, Spanish-learning American students are truly impacted by songs like these - not just by the grammar lesson. Please give us teachers some credit.
@kpasa13 I agree. I'm a student in Del Campo. I'm currently in Spanish 2. My teacher used this to help teach us the preterite. Now that I can understand these lyrics, I can understand the message. I now think this is my favorite song in a different language. Hooray for teachers! Also, I love your username.
@YarieA31 i was just making a joke that the creators of the song must have never imagined how much this song would be used by spanish teachers to teach preterite grammar. they created it with the intention of spreading awareness about poverty, but it ended up being far more famous for it's classroom usefulness. i found it funny, that's all.
@11dorisa preterit tense actually. Would't you consider it a good thing that the students are using an authentic source? It is a lot more meaningful with a context to teach an otherwise dry subject.
UGH, we had 2 listen 2 dis in spanish class AND SING IT! we had 2 sing it like 20 times, cuz some jerks decided dat dey were 2 good 2 sing it! UGH!... i love d song though
jst like everyone else i heard this in spanish class. i can remember tht almost all the other kids were like this sucks nd i was jst wondering why the hell has the music charts gone to hell? they wouldn't know true talent if it flashed its huge penis 2 inches from their face
