He actually played the right notes - it's a whole step interval with the bottom note (G) bent up to unison with the higher note (A). He just didn't hold the interval as long as he does in the studio recording...that's just a part of creative expression and improvisation in the live setting...give the guy a break...can you imagine playing the same set of thousands of notes in exactly the same style and sequence thousands of times a week?...probably gets old playing it the same way every time..;)
