What I like the most in Aronofsky's films is how he pushes his actors to the limit. It's just devastating, emotionally speaking. He's definitely the best director in the after-Kubrick era.
Every actor and actress always kiss so much director ass during interviews. Yea I get it, that's their paycheck. But once, just once, I want to see someone be like "he was a prick, he is unprofessional, he's an ass, he got drunk and hit on my 14 year old sister, etc"
Everyone who is complaining about this movie probably just don't get it...it is a hard movie to understand but it is great, i personaly think it is one of the best movies and i'm sure it didn't get oscar and so many awards for being crap. ;)
oh well... does anyone understand the word she's using at ~20:15, "Kids at the ... "? would be cool if you could tell me ! I've been searching for it, but it's impossible to find, difficult to decifer. is it like a movie or a folk tale or what ? thank you, cheers !
@rueckwaertssalto found it, pageants! natalie, next time please only use basic primary school vocabulary. (not!) youtube, think international and employ more employees for deciphering subtitles! on the road for the fight against unemployment, stick with me, and you'll never go hungry again ! thank you for my attention and good bye !
kids at the pageants. she's talking about beauty pageants and comparing the pressures on the young girls at the pageants to those of actors wanting to satisfy their directors.
She is a rubbish actress, but I would love to see her play Hamlet thus showing to the whole world just how uninspired and uninteresting her "acting skills" really are.
I LOVE how she talks about the fact that she doesn't want to work after this and there's a sort of glint in her eye... because at this point she probably knows she's pregnant and the world doesn't.
You have to make many sacrifices in the world of dance. And especially ballet that puts a lot of stress and pain and physiological torture. But, it's addictive! It's my life. <3 and it's okay to be obsessive, you could ask any dancer, we all want to be perfect.
Man I just LOVE her, she's perfection! Best Hollywood actress by far and she's beautiful and intelligent. She deserved that Oscar! And so down to earth.. she's a real person, but so gifted. She's a good role model for young girls unlike, (cough, cough), Miley Cyrus..
I loved the interview, but I found it a little ironic for Natalie to be criticizing the ballet industry for keeping women like little girls and all of the pressure on them to be so thin and not have breasts or hips, and it's it's like yeah, okay, little Miss Hollywood size 0. Do you think you'd be as successful as you are if you'd have been a size 10 throughout your career?
@AWickedMind She wasn't criticizing, she was just telling how it truly is. If you were to ask her about Hollywood she'd probably say that there's way too much pressure to be thin. What she said about ballet is true, but I've also heard her really build up ballet and say that it's such a beautiful art.
@GetOverItSweetie It's still a bit funny for her to even bring up how that industry keeps women as girlish as possible when her own does the same. It stuck out.
@AWickedMind Yeah but I don't think she was saying it to be negative, when it's just the truth. She realizes that Hollywood is obsessed with youth, I mean everyone knows that, but this interview was supposed to be about the movie and ballet, not Hollywood.
This entry is to be found on the Black Swan trivia page on IMDB.com: "Natalie Portman stated after the experience she had working with director Darren Aronofsky that she would work with him again at any point in the future." I think that this is notable considering the injuries, low budget, etc. on this film.
Man, I bet NatPort cares who thinks she's a "homewrecker" based off the gossip columns while she sits in her oscar/golden globe/SAG awards, endless success, and upcoming marriage and parenthood. Bet the burns by bored youtube trolls really get to her.
Natalie Portman is a home wrecker. Who could like someone like that especially if you were the one whose relationship she destroyed? Hmmm, what am I talking about? Let's ask Isabella Boylston, Benjamin millepied's ex-long term girlfriend or even Robin Wright, Sean Penn's ex-wife what they think of Natalie Portman. I'm sure that she is not the innocent person she makes herself out to be. Ask Sarah Lane, the ballerina double in Black Swan that got no credit for 95% of the dancing in Black Swan.
@SanDiegoStudent so what, whats your point. Sarah lane's a double she knows already she not going to get much credit hence double. You mite as well moan about all the stunt men in the world that don't get credit dude. You have to understand that anyone who know's swan lake, has seen the dancing. The dancing is a great essence of the movie but it's really about her (Natalie Portman) character development. How she the white swan embodies the black swan. Easy.
@SanDiegoStudent "There are 139 dance shots in the film. 111 are Natalie Portman untouched. 28 are her dance double Sarah Lane"- Darren Aronofsky ........... so obvioulsy sarah didnt do 95% as she said and about Natalie´s personal life well thats only her business n btw the man is the one who chosses to leave the girl he was with for someone else so if someone destroyed a relationship was Benjamin n Sean, cuz if u love someone u wont leave that person no matter what
@SanDiegoStudent lol Natalie Portman doesn't pretend to be innocent. Look at her roles. She just has no interest in sharing her personal life with the world. It's bullshit that just because she enjoys performing she should have to have her life on film as well. tbh I think she seems like a very genuine person.

I used to like Portman; I am so disappointed now. It's quite amazing how both of them trivialize ballet for the sake of selling a badly made/produced film that does not refleCt the reality of ballet AT ALL. Just disgusting.
@jgh37 trivialize ballet? WTF are you talking about??? why, because it doesn't depict YOUR experience?
this movie is EASILY one of the best films i've seen in YEARS. as a general rule, i don't like most movies, but this film was BRILLIANT! i took a student/friend of mine to see the film. she knows nothing about ballet, but the movie changed her life when she saw her own neuroses reflected in Portman's character. she even identified with the glass in her stomach!
@jgh37 you don't get off that easy. "badly made movie" "trivializes ballet" are not exactly powerful arguments. in fact, nothing you've stated in an argument at all.
i at least gave you an example of someone who was moved by the film and why, but you're just flinging around insults like those "ignorant masses" that you detest so much.
i rather enjoy intelligent discussion, so show me where i'm wrong. give me your criticism of the film. if you can.
fantastic interview. i really enjoyed hearing Natalie talk about her 'little girl voice' in Black Swan because that was really impressive to me when I watched it. I can't wait for next weekend when she'll (finally) get the Oscar.
