I am massively envious of your trip. I live in VA and hit the trail as often as work, etc. allows. Great pictures though. Maybe the triple crown is in your future?

@312j2645 We left in the beginning of February. It was cold the whole trip and alot of snow as you tell be some of the pictures (up to our waist in the smokies)! I don't regret leaving early at all. It was awesome, however I wouldn't reccommend it unless you are just looking for a way to make it alot harder. A thru hike is hard enough as it is
I'm 16 and I just came back from my second vacation to the Smokies. Every time I go, it's more and more breath taking. It's just beautiful down there. So different from Illinois. I've hiked maybe a mile of the AT and it's a big dream of mine to hike the whole trail, starting in Maine. It's on my bucket list and I hope one day I'll be mentally and physically ready to hike it!
Hahaha oh we definately met some people like that on the trail! not many of them had the drive to do the whole thing though. they were just kinda "out there" in the woods being "out there" in the head too. they were always fun to run in to. It was nice leaving so early cause everyone was so excited to see us in towns and stuff and take care of us because they weren't tired of thru hikers yet.
@BoSoxs6 ...... Ever heard of "Hike yer own Hike"? Not many people would WANT to rush through the best experience of their Life... for an invisible merit badge that you clearly wear on your sleeve.. Leave us stoner section hikers to our own ways... in my book you are "out there" ... HolySmoke! 2010
@D4nnypery na i didn't see him. we actually didn't see too many thru hikers at all. we left in early feb and were some of the first few to finish so we only saw a couple that skipped the smokies and got a little ahead of us for a bit. A guy named Uncle Frank hiked with us for a long time and another guy name muffin mittens caught up for a couple weeks but other than that not too many
Do it man!! I gaaaruunteee you won't regret it unless you don't make it all the way! even then it will still be the time and challenge of your life. The songs are:
1. 40 miles from Denver by Yonder Mountain String Band
2. ?when the snow fall down? - Reckless Kelly
3-4 are both by Reckless Kelly if i remember correctly too. My favorite band!
@ericsterwerf Good Luck man! I may be out that weekend around those parts. I live in northwest georgia and get out on the trail as much as i can on the weekends. I'll have an alaskan malamute with me, so holler if ya see me!
@imaginationicon wow! i yo-yo. no thanks man. once was enough for me. although i honestly felt like i could do a sobo in just over three months after doing the nobo in 4 and having the rediculous snow and the slow time in the beginning getting into shape. Good Luck though!
@NCcummins Thanks alot! I'm very jealous of you come March. It was one of the most awesome things i've ever done and you will never forget it. Just know that there will be some very hard and discouraging times but the good by far out way the bad and you will be a stronger person for it. Good Luck!
Gentlemen, no doubt one of the greatest moments and stories of your lives. Congratulations on this awesome accomplishment. Keep doing what you are doing.

I started hiking in March 2010 also. Did you come across Kentucky blue Grass at any point? He was a pretty awesome dude.
