I'm surprised no one corrected cornshaq on this, but The SNES version of the game is nothing like this. Graphics aside (which would be splitting hairs over 8-bit and 16-bit) the SNES version is actually more free-roaming, with mission-based gameplay.
@jesternario yeah, i also think their was a genesis version of Alien 3 which was difficult to get through it some..especially stage 2 and the short short time limit
This game surprised me, I figured it would have been a reskin of Friday the 13th, which would have worked well for Alien 3 since there was only one Alien and there was little defense for Ripley.
While it certainly isn't the worst game LJN has released it still is pretty bad. Especially when it comes to the number of sprites. If I'm not mistaken there's a mindblowing number of 5 (that includes Ripley and the prisoners captured and rescued)! Come on, WTF? I know the aliens look the same but at the VERY least the bosses could have had a different look each time...
Congrats on the PIT friend Cornshaq. I feel I must point to this to ya'll that Alien 3 was developed by Probe Entertainment, who also developed the SNES version of this plus some other games from other companies including LJN's parent company at the time when this was released, Acclaim.
@MisterConan90 A Nightmare On Elm Street for NES isn't that bad either. A tad generic, mind you, but it's actually a half decent platformer with a few neat power up abilities.
Another excellent play through made by you. And why LJN made so many movie-based games? One word: Hype. Ride the hype made by the movie, and you ensure your game will be bougth by naive players, no matter how crappy it is. Standard industry tactic still in use nowadays.
Now... one question, Corn. Ever thought of playing Rocketeer of Hunt for Red October? Both were blockbuster in their time, so why not?
This was a great suprice to me. Thanks Cornshag for playing this game.
I think this is a fun game & OK quality as an movie licence.
Only thing I HATE about this game is the timelimit. You have so little time to complete the level that you can't really explore at all. They should have done it in the same way as they did in the Snes version.
You know what's the weirdest thing about all the Alien 3 games? There was one single Alien in Alien 3, so the games are basically more like Alien 2 (or wasn't it called "Aliens"?)
Wait, Ripley doesn't even die at the end of this game? Ok...
pretty sure firing rockets in a air vent is a bad idea just saying :P

I think best Alien 3 game was the arcade game Alien 3: The Gun by Sega.

Hell must have froze over. LJN actually made a semi decent movie licensed game.

@dickclarkfan1 Ever played Terminator 2 for the NES or True Lies for the SNES? Two LJN games that aren't too bad.
