used to jam this song on my JVC BiPhonic Boom Box (this radio put the BOOM in Boombox!) riding the number 6 train from Castle Hill to parts unknown! oh yeah those were the days! and this was the SONG!
Back in 1979 as an 8 year old kid, this shit was rockin' on both NYC's original KTU(92.3 FM) and BLS(107.5 FM). If I had my very own radio station,I'd play nothing but REAL music for 50 minutes til it's time to play again 10 minutes after commercials. Too bad radio isn't like that anymore.
Here, in Brazil, betwen 1979 and 1980, we had a radio station that recorded an album called "Excelsior, a máquina do som, Volume 8", with this song, and other, like Cliff Richard, Video Killed the Radio Star...
This brings me right back to The Pines, dancing at the blue whale and later at the sandpiper which later became the pavilion. Summer of 79' was the ultimate for me - seeing France Jolie perform come to me live at that beach party on the sand and all of the other amazing songs that have now become legendary disco classics! And again, you had to have been there. Don't cry that it's over, be happy that it happened!
Yea!! HEAR COMES THAT SOUND!!!,,,And what a sound it was.
Summer of 79' hangin on Manhatten Beach during the day one big dance flloor on the
boardwalk and I mean EVERYONE had their boomboxes tuned into 92KTU...Then hit the Clubs at nite didn't matter which one ALL were jumpin' ,danced our asses off..Hit a diner afrterwards and head straight back to the beach to start ALL over again.
roxy music from the early 80's AVH class of 84 witnessed it firsthand. Missed those days, thanks ojaramilloz for posting and bringing back great mmories. DJ'S inc.
Lançado em 1979, sendo que a musica citada no album tem 16:52 min´completando o lado A, incluido as musicas "When We're Dancing," "I Got That Feeling" e "Let Me Make It Up To You" no lado B.
This is a classic!!! This is the album cover of the US edition. The english one has two women kissing each other. The songs that were sampled on Rapper's Delight are this one and Good Times by Chic, joshblaize...
Incrivel!!! No Brasil essa musica fez muito sucesso nos anos 80, ficou conhecida como a 'melô da conceição' e continua sendo executada nos bailes de época.
this is where Rappers Delight took their intro from. I know cause they got it from a tape I made mixing it with Good Times and rapping over it while in a club called Dingbats in Chicago. I got the idea from another DJ named Larry D in NYC. I used to go by the name of Casper back then :-)
I read about you in an article talking about chicago's hip hop beginnings it talked about you and cabrini jo mostly then it talked about the rappers from the 90's. Glad to know you still at it.
Yes, to offset the oxycontin ecstasy fueled raves that leave dead bodies and raped young girls in it's wake. At least you could understand the words. Pick your poison.
Oxycontin ecstasy? What's that? Are you just combining random chemical names you heard on TV? I don't know what rave you've been to where raping took place either. Sounds more like a heavy metal concert.
My bad, i guess i left out the comma, but for you to think that just because someone is on youtube they toss around random words and don't know first hand what goes on , shows why i am gonna ignore your ignorant arrogant ass remarks. For whatever reason you have been lucky or maybe you just need to look at tv and put the pipe down smart ass. YOU cannot be this nieve, stop the nonsense and get clue and out of denial .
I was to young to go to any discos at that time. I heard jams like these when they played music in the parks in the Summer, Blockparties and on the neighborhood boom boxes.

Doesn't sound like the original beat, that Sugarhill Gang used to sample for Rapper's Delight?
Does anybody know who did the original beat, for Sugarhill Gang's intro part of Rapper's Delight, before it hits Good Times by Chic?
Original song and artist?
joshblaize 1 year ago
@joshblaize
Well, the original song is here. You were right in the first question.
Instrumental beat from 0:20 to 0:40 (more or less) was re-played
by the SugarHill Band in the famous track, and greatly sampled recently
by MixMaster Mike and Beastie Boys on Triple Trouble
Neurodisco77 7 months ago
Samplers didn't exist back then. This and "Good Times" were replayed by the Sugarhill house band on Rapper's Delight..
