@Lufttygger306 There is plenty of other stuff of his to watch. This was after decades of film making. His later works were some interesting photography and things like that.
sent here from IMDB ... made the greatest Star Wars movie and set a benchmark that is still held today with ESB , so long to a tremendous film maker !
One thing I read about Star Wars which I thought was ironic was the studio forced the film on exhibitors. They all wanted to book this other film that was supposed to be the big thing, and FOX said they could have it as long as they showed Star Wars, and they were actually fined for doing so.
Star Wars became a massive hit and the other film, well I can't remember its title so I think the inference is obvious
@lopezheavy He believed that learning everything outside of the craft is what made an interesting film maker. He always thought people who went straight through film school had nothing to say. He would prefer someone go lay bricks in Italy as preparation for their craft.
@titmousetalks He never saw himself as better or worse. He was very focused on what gifts he could bring to a project. It was not a competition. It was about doing the best work where one was. And Lucas created something extraordinary. Kersh would never speak poorly of anything this turned out to be. Although, Kersh was actually... highly against spending a gajillion dollars on films. As we watched movies together he would go..., "My GOD! They could not find a way to spend more money!"
Irvin Kershner, The Empire Strikes Back was a true gem and we thank you for your work, the magic, and the memories you brought to Star Wars fans everywhere. Rest peacefully.
@TrueArche He died at his computer desk... seated with his arms gripping the chair... staring off into the distance as if looking for the next big thing. His office was smaller than mine, but he created amazing things there.
this is bullshit!!!!!!!!!!!!!! first Leslie Nielsen passes away and now Irvin Kershner! both greast men are gone now, they brought a different genius to the people.
@hanno21664 He didn't want people to mourn his passing. He was very satisfied with his life and when he got sick we thought he would be gone a lot sooner. He would be more impressed to see what genius you could create with that head on your shoulders and the limited energy and time we are given in life. He'd probably recommend you use it before you are underground with the worms.
I think arguing about what is better and what is worse is redundant. They're two parts to an overall storyline, even if you debate whether or not Lucas ever intended a trilogy in the beginning. Once Empire was in the can, a final part was in demand, so Jedi had to be made.
You can prefer one to another for your own reasons, but don't tell me you like the middle of the book better than the end, and therefore the end sucks.
the Star Wars and The Empire Strikes Back movie are the best Return of the Jedi is a movie less than their very weak argument and a bad work of Richard Marquand the empire strikes back thanks to the direction of Irvin Kershner and written by George Lucas is one of the best movies that are filmed Entertainment
@Zormo777 The movie the return of the jedi is undoubtedly the worst of the series one very badly I argue the ewoks that do not contribute at all special effects badly used and a very infantile argument in comparison with the empire strikes back
Irvin Kershner directed the empire strikes back was impressive work has to be recognized was the best part of the trilogy was that it gave the interesting history that dark tone of the story where all the characters lose something the Star Wars and the The Empire Strikes masterpiece are the two best films of the trilogy the return of the jedi movie directed by Richard Marquand child is crap
@TRUEMAN8919 George Lucas directed Return of the Jedi. Whatever the credits say, Lucas directed the film. The DP walked off the film because of the way Marquand was treated by Lucas.
@TRUEMAN8919 Well it's not Marquand's fault that he received the kind of story and setting to work with as he did. If Kershner received Ewoks it would be the same thing.
Star Wars is more than just a bunch of movies. It is not about the directing and it doesn't really matter much who directs it. It is the story, the universe (planets, locations, ships, vehicles, etc) and characters which make Star Wars movies so great.
@pathx21 The appeals are on multiple levels. But, those effects do get old. Kersh was brought in to deepen the emotional content so that people would care enough about the characters for the story to be compelling through the entire series. It is one thing for people to be invested in the effects. It is another for people to be invested in the human beings they see on screen. Film is a director's medium. Without the right director it does not happen. Moments are decisions made by artists.
A good example of how even the greatest things all come from small beginings, and if you believe in your work you never know what can happen. Great video...
Poor Irvin. He has completely been typecasted with that movie
