Dead prez veiws correlate however socialism is a framework that has its roots in African communialsm so we also need independence from all western political ideology.
Agreed Rahkim. No one is saying he isn't sincere. He is doing the best with what he has got and this is commendable. What gets me is that too many kids are taking this guy as being the end all to progress. Therefore, it is not so much the kids that I get exasperated with, but it is the impact this guy has on kids and his being unaware of it. He is an example. He should know this. He should read and understand what he talks about if he is going to go public with it. This is my beef.
saying any of this is a "gimmick for people to buy his albums" is ludicrous. He may not always be so eloquent...which one of you are? M1 speaks of revolution and social change and M1 has dedicated his time making these words more than just words.... its not just an idea its his way of life. He does promote change from the inside...funny those of us in the ghetto know exactly the message he is trying to convey. Not his best interview...if one would call it that.
If you want to know more about his ideas of "plausible ways" to go about change, you find them further in other discussions he has taken part of. I HOPE THE KIDS ARE LISTENING. BTW...promote change on the inside...would you have him become a politician? Unbelievable.
Yes I forgot..politicians are the only ones who promote change from the inside. Enlightening.
In his "I hope the kids are listening" take was he smoking a blunt like he was in this video. Yeah that's a real message that is great from my kids. By the way I am inner city school teacher in the Bronx.
He really promotes change from the inside if the only people he is appealing to are people from the ghetto? How? How many rallies has he formed? How many articles has he written? How many school talks has he done? How many homeless shelters do you think he works at on weekends? Anyone with any kind of real knowledge of social change looks at this guy and laughs. Granted he may be a good artist but activist/revolutionary he is not. Look up Huey Newton, or Medgar Evers for real activism.
I stumbled upon this conversation and was pleasantly irritated. M1 speaks of revolution and social change through pure idiocy. Kids look up to this. He uses made up words and does not convey his point clearly, at all. "We need change, we need change," but does not give a plausible ways to go about it. In the end it is just a gimmick for people to buy his albums. I felt more stupid after hearing this guy. Pick up some books, finish school, graduate and promote change from the inside- idiot.
No. However, think about Mal. X and Huey Newton (Phd). They understood that they needed to learn the game in order to change it. M1 just talks about revolution and has no idea of its implications. You cant just change the whole system, you have to infiltrate it. If you just start changing affixes on words you may appeal to some people, but most will think it uneducated. This guy just wants you to buy his albums- read "The Wretched Earth" by Frantz Fanon if you want to learn revolution.
don't be too hard on the brother, he's got the heart at least and it attempting to progress as he sees best. give him the benefit of the doubt that he's sincere. u know? he may not be as clear and refined but make spark another to brilliance u know?

@ALLAHSUKUR I agree. I like Dead Prez, but it's almost more a novelty than anything. Something I can't stand is when someone says "get educated," as you cringe watching them speak and explain their point of view.
And beyond that, I've read a lot of your posts here. Much respect.

LOL, i feel you on that one dogg. That is how deep I get when I'm stoned to the fuckin' dome. We must rise as a whole regardless of what color, race, ethnicity, or what ever the fuck you are. Time waits for no man. word up son
thats never gonna happen, want to know hwy, because whats happened yesterday, is still happenin today, thats why they refer to the past, think about it
yeah even if their forget the cops won't stop brutalizing us and the white power structure won't stop either social wealth won't start flowing from the central government towards the black communities as it does towards other communities institutionalized racism won't stop either if we forget
last i heard M went solo and Stic is no where to be found, would be nice if someone wit alot of money got them back together so they can make that bomb ass music again without havin to worry about record sales, cuz most people are too ignorant to really fell these catz
This struggle transcends race, it's not about white and black it's about oppression as a whole concept. When I listen to Prez it's a call to everyone who rails against governmental control, to everyone who understands the targeting of the black community and recognizes it as something that needs to be changed.
...then you must have never been to a dead prez concert and seen them call every white person in the audience a cracker and an enemy. I assume you are white too.
Remember to always use non-violence when creating a lasting revolution people. The REAL war is one of hearts and minds alone brothers and sisters. Peace
The state will never let you take power for yourself. Force must be used not to say it is the only element of Revolution. But to understand one side of the revolution or anything at all but do not understand the other you are being subjective. Plain and simple.
That struggle made you who u are. thats why u come from the soul, black music, black words. its from the heart. and u feel it. a character is sculpted from from the problems that push against it. like bodybuilding. its better than being a useless spoiled brat with no values. So God-bless
Hypothetically speaking, who's to say that if DP did takeover and started a new government that they wouldn't turn around on the people who helped get them there??? They're thugs just like Castro, Saddam, Edimean...they got bloodlust channeled through some frustration, some desire, some excuse rather, to kill. I'm all for self-defense and defending those who cannot do so themselves but...
thats bull. if you wana talk about somebody like that, you might as well tlak about al shaprton or somebody. DP is talkin about real shyt. n "if u dont believe n the power of the gun, you are already dead."- so a pre-emptive strike would be necessary, especially in the case of black people
You don't even understand what Dead Prez came from or the Politic that you hear on Let's Get Free or anything like that! What would stop DP from doing anything like that is that in the Revolutionary Process the people are being educated to understand politics and to participate. So if leaders where to ever try to hijack the revolution the people still understand what to do next and put them in place.
If you want to talk on something why don't you take the time to study?
I do in fact study, and believe it or not i do got love for d.p, as a revolutionary/independent thinker however, its a responsibilty to question even those who we hold in high esteem/regards because every dictator was at one time a hero/inspiration to their people....study and you'll see.
You can tell a dictator for a dictator easily. A dictator will want to keep the people in the dark. Dictators will not involve the people. So when the time comes they can take complete power for themself without any struggle since the people are in the same situation they started in. In a revolution for the people the people participate they understand their leaders, the organization and how it operates. What you say you studied is actually only telling me what the system pushed to you to think.
Furthermore, I feel that their point of view is narrow minded in the sense that they are only speaking for a marginalized few. The idea of a revolution in America, a violent one, is suicide. IT WILL NOT LAST MORE THAN A WEEK! THEN WE AS MINORITIES WILL BE OPPRESSED. Its time to change philosphies man. Too many leaders like Saddam, Castro, Edimean (sic), Hitler, Bush have led their people through an idealized vision of utopia through fervor and passion only to turn around to rule through tyranny.
I do agree that we shouldn't have too many leaders. It's a basic fact, everyone's idealistic, and almost all of our presidents and dictators lead us through hell with their ephemeral or chimerical ambitions. What we should do instead is help the people be their OWN leaders. Only in numbers can we ever achieve something, and it has been proven in marches and boycotts through out history.
maybe you're a cuban-american, then again chances are you're probably not, but if u asked any cuban-american, especially those living in south florida who were part of the mariel boat lift they would sorely disagree with you and tell you that castro is one in the same with any dictator in the 20th century (minus the 6 million genocide).
Tell me why 90% of the Cuban population votes. Not even 50% of the American population votes. It is false that every Cuban you go to will say Castor is a dictator. especially if you looking to who are just as poor in America as they were in Cuba. Those who will say this negative stuff often come from the upper class population that was in Cuba or the few who are upper class here. Most Cubans wont say Fidel is the best person in the world but they wont say a president here is better than him.
i'm just wondering why there were thousands of cubans parading the streets, cheering when news about castro on his deathbed last year hit t.v stations....hmmmmm. Trust me, its better to be poor in the u.s than poor in 3rd world countries like Cuba, Columbia, or my parent's country El Salvador.
I can't tell you why this happened. Maybe it is the same thing that happened around Hugo Chavez where you had Venezuelans holding up signs in English denouncing Chavez that they could not even understand. But I don't know I can tell you that their are Cubans who have said they same thing I just posted personally. That are still poor, still trying to find crumbs where ever they can. Keep on believing what the media feeds you. You can't compare Cuba with El Salvador neither 2 different systems.
An elder in my community told me that the Cubans weren't celebrating what looked to be Fidel's life coming to an end. They were celebrating the fact that if he was dying, it was by natural causes and not assassination... just a thought... Personally, if he had died in that hospital, I would have celebrated his life and his "natural" death so to speak... his defeat on escaping the many attempts to take his life before his time was up...
Cuba isn't a 3rd world country. They have a higher literacy rate, more doctors per capita, and a lower poverty rate then the United States which is considered 1st world.
that's because cuba's poverty rate is based on the country's GDP, and thus not comparable to the U.S.
However, just the fact that they (yes... they are unfortunately considered a 3rd world "south state" by practically every transnational organization), have universalized health care and the U.S. does not is pathetic at best and oppressive at worst
I got love for DP's enthusiasm and their passion, I truly do admire it. However, I personally think that their rhetoric is redundant and delusional. We are not under violent oppression as a whole here in America, we are free. We do not live in a police state in the true sense of a military governement with troops at every intersection checking our passports.
You're correct in that the government does not use force to retain control of the population, as ever since the conception of the modern 'liberal democratic' state the control over the citizenry's thought has taken it's place. Essentially, guns have been replaced
no you can't. i don't feel we're free in the true sense of the word by any means, however, there are countries in the world, such as cuba, where you can't even express yourself the way we are now without being jailed and/or executed for treason. If it ever got like that here...well u know, RBG.
Okay, have you ever been to Cuba? My wife has been there twice in the last couple of years and it is not the totalitarian society that is sold to us through our "libral" media. It cannot be all bad. They are housing Assata from our Just-Us system.
I dont know about that man. When you got black men like Amardu Diallo or Sean Bell getting shot down dozens of times by the racist NYPD, then thats pretty relative to a Police state. And black people are still opressed in society, there aint no doubt about that. I can give you lots of examples of how blacks are opressed.
Stic.Man and M1 complement eachother I dont think one is more intelliegent. This is the greatest interview I have seen to date. Makes anything on television seem ridiculous.
I would love to meet M-1 and Stic man- Dead Prez!!!

Can you really do what ever you want? Can you go take land like the way they did when this nation set up shop?
cinque1976 4 years ago
no you can't. i don't feel we're free in the true sense of the word by any means, however, there are countries in the world, such as cuba, where you can't even express yourself the way we are now without being jailed and/or executed for treason. If it ever got like that here...well u know, RBG.

Okay, have you ever been to Cuba? My wife has been there twice in the last couple of years and it is not the totalitarian society that is sold to us through our "libral" media. It cannot be all bad. They are housing Assata from our Just-Us system.

you are far from free, meditate on the meaning of being free. we are oppressed in a chaotic system and most cant even see it
