  • Also, the last song of each index is from the point of view of the element.

  • @EternallyDark the lyrics are also all written in iambic pentameter

  • i noticed that. quite a while ago.. i always wondered who else noticed.

  • burn the fleet is based off of some greek myth

  • I did get it. I was posting it for people who didn't..

  • It's a sonnet at the end of each element. so many lines with so many words in each.

  • /facepalm at video poster for not getting it. Well actually you might not of if you dled the album, but the album art made it obvious

  • it is a concept album i'm sure it was done on purpose to tie it all together

  • the fact that anyone didnt notice this just puts me in awe and makes me worry about the future of mankind.

  • I never noticed this either! Very interesting!

  • wow great find man! thanks for sharing!

  • It does mean something, All the same vocal melody's are there to show correlation in the fact that each of those final songs is written from the perspective of the element.

Check out the lyrics they are incredible, For instance...

    "A child of dust, to mother now return;

For every seed must die before it grows.

And though above the world may toil and turn,

No prying spade will find you here below.

Now safe beneath their wisdom and their feet,

Here i will teach you truly how to sleep. "

    Amazing.

  • I had noticed this but hadn't noticed they did it for every song!

My favourite band and true musicians!

Did you guys know that most of the Beggars album was jammed?

Then they added the vocals, etc later.

    :)

  • ohh...

  • All four of the songs are shakespearian sonnets.

  • Hahaha, yeah, on their website, I think, I read that all four songs are sonnets, and each one is that element personified. They're also actually the same song, (musically speaking), they just changed the keys and the parts around (I think that's called a song cycle, but don't hold me to that)

  • ahahha its a sonnet, its meant to be like that. you can switch up the 4 songs lyrics and itll all still fit.

i figured this out when the album first came out. i was listening to child of dust and found myself singing the end of silver wings

  • @ingridcanales same here...tight

  • ive read that each ending track is written in the form of a sonnet written from the perspective of the element.

    Sort of motif style "secret"

The receiving end of sirens does that a lot. using the same lyrics in different songs.

  • wow i never noticed that, im so glad i know now. great observation!

and ps. is that Dallas Green in your pic? he is the man too! next to Dustin of course lol

  • Yeah thats Dallas. I just saw and met with him 2 weeks ago at a show here. It was awesome.

  • @imhereformusic It's a sonnet at the end of each element with so many lines and so many words per line.

  • yeah its a line from a poem and its meant to be like this

    dustin did it on purpose

  • thrice is such a creative band! dustin writes amazing and very though provoking lyrics, they really make u just sit there and actually feel sorry for the wind, or fire, or fear the sea....they really know how to conceptualize while writing

  • I ttly noticed this aswell!!

    I like it :)

  • It's not just the last couple of lines. Listen to every line of the 6th songs in each element. Every line has 10 sylables (sp?)

  • Yeah that actually was pretty clever! Hahaa

  • The 6th song of each album is a shakespearean sonnet.

That means iambic pentameter, a specific rhyme scheme, poetic turn in the last two lines, etc.

  • HOLY SHIT MAN! HOW DID YOU FIGURE THIS OUT?! YOU'RE A FUCKIN GENIUS!

I wish I was smart as you.

  • This whole record was full of conceptual ideas, I think this was just another cool idea.

  • And who will stand to greet the blinding light

Its only lonely when there's noone left to fight.

But grace can still be found within the gales

With fear and reverance raise your ragged sails.

And after all of this I am amazed

That I am cursed far more than I am praised.

    Now safe beneath their wisdom and their feet;

Here I will teach you truly how to sleep.

  • seems cool that they run together so well xD very neat

  • Thrice =epic.

  • Everything in existence, everything we can touch feel or conceptualize is related in a way so profound we cannot comprehend it.

  • It's only that way because each song is a sonnet so they end up having the same rhythms. I don't think it "means" anything, but it is a cool pattern.

  • lol they purposely did this if you payed attention to interviews of the band that is.... they are ballads for the elements...

  • cadence

  • every alchemy index is written from the point of view of an element obviously :P

also, it is written from the point of view of god as well :D

  • shut the hell up fool

  • what the fuck?

  • Joey's right

    Thrice is religious

    yeah, deal with it lol

  • Thrice as a band is not religious.

  • As a band, no their not proclaimed as a religious. So yes, you're right. But looking at the lyrics, I can't believe there is no religious influence in their songwriting

  • well they arent a "chrsitian" band because they dont sing about praise but Dustin does write about his relationship with God and what path he may be on. if that makes sense, but Dustin said that in an interview i just read. I have the link if you wanna read it.

  • that's right...

Like God is ''inside'' the elements

  • thrice is trying to get people to "wake up"

    listen to their message

  • If you guys notice, there is something that represents each element. This is not really capturing it except for the melodic similarity. For example, in the earth cd, the last song ends with them being buried. Thats why the sound is muffled and the thuds you hear in the dirt being thrown on top of the casket.

In Water, its submerging and being pulled out of the water.

  • gawddd... the alchemy indexes are amazing.

  • It is kind of pathetic that people didn't realize this until they saw this video.

  • Exactly.

  • Alchemy Index is simply brilliant.

  • i never really noticed that! thats pretty sweet.

  • all songs are supposed to sound somewhat similar, the last tracks especially

    thrice=life

  • Wow, that is REALLY interesting. I had to analyze a chorus for English and I chose Of Dust and Nations. Every 4th and 7th line of each 11 syllable line is emphasized. I wonder if that was done on purpose (prolly was) and I wonder if it has anything to do with the band name. 7-4=3/three/Thrice?

  • "wonder if it means anything?" sure it does. these are sonnets, a classical form of poetry. Shakespeare wrote them, they're old, archaic, and awesome. just that fact that Thrice writes/preforms sonnets is amazing. NOBODY writes sonnets anymore. a sonnet is a poem of 14 lines, with an ababcdcdefefgg rhyme scheme and 10, occasionally 11 syllables to a line. its an old form of poetry, and absolutely beautiful. please google it if you don't understand.

  • It's simply written in sonnet form, the last two lines all rhyme, etc.

  • exactly

  • that part is all about the element talking to humanity

  • I totally agree man, Thrice are so amazing...ive listened to the 2 alchmey albums so many times this year its ridiculous!...they totally need much more recognition compared to these shitty over-hyped bands who get their play on scuzz or kerrang. Im waiting for the day a thrice video comes on scuzz, kerrang or mtv 2!

  • On each disc the last song is the sonnet. Which follow the same structure. Love that they took the time to do this. To me Thrice has proven themselves to be the best songwriters that I have ever heard. Just wish more bands would take the time, but then again thats what makes Thrice so special.

  • Well to tie every disc togheter...

More over each 6th song represent the element itself (fire, water, earth, air) talking to humanity

  • it really pisses me off that such an awesome band doesnt get the recognition it deserves....

  • seriously

  • true

  • amen

  • i think its a good thing that they arnt recognized, I used to love Metallica untill they sold themselves out to guitar hero and rockband and showed themselves all over the radio

  • That was soooo creepy because just this second I JUST saw an advert for Guitar Hero Metallica =P

But you have a pretty good point =)

  • you are right DiCola119 but at the same time they've gotten to the point where they are past recognition, where i am from in california they used to play thrice on the radio all the time, but i think now that they have mastered their art they are past the point of needing that kind of recognition.

  • I know what your saying but I remember reading in an interview that they dont want that kind of recognition. They basically don't want to be sell outs because they love it the way it is.

  • @kowalsik i agree if the do get it they would sell out and get all main stream

  • they made every 6th song like this so that every disc would tie together and make the project feel more connected. they say it interviews.

  • I've already seen the movie and it's pretty cool. I dont think I'd really like it if i didnt know Thrice made a song about it though haha. I also heard that Burn the Fleet was based off World Of Warcraft also lol

  • Haha. I don't really see the connection with WoW, considering I don't play it. Whenever I listen to Burn the Fleet, I think a huge pirate battle. haha. Pirates sailing to shore with the sail on fire.

  • Ed Breckenridge used to play WoW, same for Dustin, and we all know that ANYONE who plays WoW long enough will NOT STOP unless theyre payment runs out and they hold off paying it and loose interest lol

  • @kowalsik I think of the elves led by Feanor in JRR Tolkien's the Silmarillion when I listen to Burn the Fleet, but I don't think too many people will know what that is about :P

  • @kowalsik I heard that Burn The Fleet was from Cortez when he invaded Mexico (not sure about Mexico) and that they went there and burned down the fleet so they couldn't go home. So it would be either victory or death, which I think is why they say: "Burn The Fleet, we'll be heroes or ghosts, but we won't be turned around."

Not sure though, that's just what I heard :p

  • And did you also know that the song "A Song For Milly Michaelson" was based off the 80's movie "The Boy Who Could Fly"?

  • Yah. I read about that somewhere. Never seen the movie though.

  • Knowledge is power!

  • Its because every 6th song on each element is a sonnet. google sonnet structure

  • Sweet. I didn't know that. It is still very creative to do.
