@PEACHFUZZ1 Your dad brought countless hours of musical pleasure to my life. Thank you so much for sharing your dad with all of us old school doo woppers and P-Funkers.
Thanx for all the good info: regarding this legendary group. All I know is that we here in Detroit loved this music because we understood the funk. Long live the Parliament and Funkadelics!
The story goes that nothing was happening in NJ so the Parliaments decided to go to Detroit. George wound up being a staff writer for Motown during the dry moments. Then they hooked up with Revilot
A little more spin: The Parliaments were giggin' in Plainfield, NJ. They got the address for Motown off the 45 record and called for an audition. When they did audition, the scout remarked about their clean cut image (imagine that!!!!) but they sounded too much like the Temptations, thus they were not signed to Motown. However, George was a staff writer for Motown's Jobete arm which was ran by Berry Gordy's wife in New York. After some marital issues, the staff writers were buried by Mr. Gordy.
July 1, 1967- It was a Saturday- I went to Sears and bought "Testify" by the Parliaments and "Hypnotized" by the great Linda Jones.

Wait a minute Peachfuzz. You're saying that the guy on the left side of the computer screen isn't George Clinton.

which one wears the diaper

Garry Shider wears the diaper. He's a guitarist who joined Funkadelic in 1972. He didn't sing with the Parliaments.

I always wondered how a NJ group ended up on a Detroit label (Revilot).
