The liberals and libertarians need to ally on social issues and get rid of the crazy religious right types. They mostly agree on things like war, drug policy, etc. Liberals can be rather authoritarian when it comes to things like guns, though. Economically speaking, I think a compromise would be ideal--but not the type of "compromise" we've seen in the past. Rather, a market driven economy with taxes paid only for using publicly owned, market driven, cooperative-run businesses. Essentially, a

Why not blend the positive aspects of two systems into a better one?

The liberals and libertarians need to ally on social issues and get rid of the crazy religious right types. They mostly agree on things like war, drug policy, etc. Liberals can be rather authoritarian when it comes to things like guns, though. Economically speaking, I think a compromise would be ideal--but not the type of "compromise" we've seen in the past. @wcropp1 non-profit public banking option, and a public, worker-run employment option. Taxes, when imposed involuntarily, are rather authoritarian, but when paid voluntarily can fund worthy projects and social services. Public ownership can provide valuable things like non-profit, worker-run businesses, but if they're not run in a way that emulates private businesses (i.e. they can fail), then they will not be successful. Why not blend the positive aspects of two systems into a better one?

Ron paul is an honest guy with lots of IQ, good will, and of course wants to put an and to this pointless war.
But nothing is going to change. Even if he gets elected, and i really hope so, he will become a second obama. Because the people who are really running the country (goldman sachs, haliburton etc...) need imperialistic policy, need war, and if ron paul could actually mess with their plans, he wouldn't even be a candidate.
No president can go against the big guys, only the masses can...

I'm voting for Obama, but I do hope Rep Paul gets the Republican nomination. He seems to have his head on quite well, very well spoken, and doesn't seem as crazily right wing as the other canidates.

Conservatives probably hate Ron Paul b/c even though he's a Republican he has a lot of liberal Democrat fans. The guy is a real straight talker and doesn't just spit out usless talking points about "freedom isn't free" and "we must protect our children". The man knows his stuff and speaks intelligently and when he does critisize Democrats, does so thoughtfully and respectfully.

Honestly guys, Ron Paul is an amazingly honest politician, which is why he will most likely never get elected. Tradition holds that during the primaries people tend to lean to the extremes- either the hardcore religious right or the abortion's OK and gay people aren't destroying America left (which I totally agree with), then during election season both candidates gravitate towards the middle.
