Most of the great drummers, no matter what kind of music they currently play, learned how to play jazz before any other style of music. For someone to stay jazz drummers are shitty copycats should really re-evaluate why they play drums. Drum solo's are meant to pump up the crowd, but a great drummer can pump them up while throwing in jazz licks and every kind of lick that's in their arsenal, not just triplets over the toms and bass drum, which gets extremely boring(aka most metal drummers).

How many rock concerts has anyone everybeen to and seen a jazz solo. None. Everybody wants to see a badass not a pattern expert who copy's all the old jazz legends licks. I will give Ivan credit he writes his own material. Originality is overlooked in this contest. There is alot of copycat bullshit going latley. Why have the last 5 winners fizzilled. None of those guys could go into a 10.000 seat Arena live and kick the headliners drumrs teeth out. The best drumr in the GALAXY shoud be able to.

The comment about Ivan sounding like Sherman Arnold. its because most of these guys are former marching band drummers who have been practicing the same rudiments since the 8th grade on a pad and trying to see can play the most correct and fastest patterns then copying the jazz muscians who do the same thing thats why you see the same material over and over. play what sound good and not what the other guys play. Ivan played more original material than anyone else and should have won.

Ivan was the best muscian. This has turned into a drumline contest with who plays the most militant patterns with speed and no feel. If I was playing Madison Square Garden and wanting to kick the headliners ass I would go with Ivan everytime.

ivan is a great musician. its true his solo is al over the place and didnt flow well but regardless of the fact. he still made it 2 the finalls. not alot of drummers can actually say they made it

The thing that sets apart the winners from the losers isn't talent on the kit. It's just composition. This guy is just as good as Donnie Marple, but this solo isn't as well put together.
