  • Hmmm...left you a long thank-you comment, but it disappeared. I used a Share on this to follow a Note that I wrote responding to young vrs. old activists grousing at each other for who has ruined the world. Actually I am happy to meet anyone who is not apathetic, and agree with your "old" song/video. Don't be devisive... Just DO SOMEthing!

    Thanx!

  • americans one of the biggest polluters on earth, time to get your act together, other countries as well!!!!

  • when it feels like i have too much pain to stay alive i listen to marvin gaye. and i find some kind of rest after all.

  • Great records, great really, like tony would say.

  • "Observe that in all the propaganda of the ecologists—amidst all their appeals to nature and pleas for "harmony with nature"—there is no discussion of man's needs and the requirements of his survival. Man is treated as if he were an unnatural phenomenon. Man cannot survive in the kind of state of nature that the ecologists envision—i.e., on the level of sea urchins or polar bears"-- Ayn Rand

  • @backlighting See the documentary Life After People. Humans were always a mistake, a strange twist of DNA. That's why humans are so dark and twisty. It's in their DNA, literally. That's what the song DANny Boy is about -- twisted DNA. The pipes are calling and dead I must be. I see dead people, lots of them, all of them.

  • @redfordforpresident

Do they work in a morgue

People are twisted because they don't know the truth and blaming it on DNA is another cop out. I got free will and DNA never made me do anything. Science should tell you everything's a mistake from the odds, that should prove to everyone there is no such thing as co-incidence, shame they can't work that out

  • @backlighting

not true, how much of what man does is based on greed , desires, whims and selfishness

they got plenty of idea's. Ayn Rand's to clever by half and so it's been proved.

  • Florida's new governor, DICK SCOTT (Rick Scott), just appointed a former waste disposal CEO with a horrible environmental record as the new environmental department head. I hate the make this comparison but it's like making a known pedophile be charge of a day care center.

  • still relevant after all these decades.

  • 8 people are bitchasses.

  • how prophetic are his lyrics ? look @ wats bn happening in the past, n wats happening right now with all the earthquakes, tsunami and nuclear disaster ..... we have got to wake up ppl !!! (it's prophesised in the good books) !

  • particularly pertinent now.

  • Better Ecology

I cut myself on the bleeding edge

thought of technology as a financial hedge

until i lost my job in the new economy

on the way to a better ecology

    M.S. Morrison

  • Do you suppose with neverending war, generations of families knowing nothing but strife, combined with the rape of our earth, there will be anything left to bequeath to our future child and/or grandchildren (if they survivie)? War has been waged as far back as 2,700 b.c. and, unfortunately always will be in one place or another. War, famine, strife, child abuse, animal abuse, - all fueled by ignorance. Call me a pessimist, but . . . Marcia

  • I keep hearing this advertisement on the radio, for a condo complex called "Mercer" and in the commercial they use this song but instead of saying "mercy mercy me, things ain't what they used to be" the song goes "mercer mercer condominiums, this is where I want to be" and everytime I hear it I get sick to my stomach and I know that Marvin Gaye is turning in his grave

  • Damn, this is what's goin' on now. Dead birds falling from the sky and now reports of dead fish from other side of the world. Pray for love, compassion, & forgiveness.

  • this song is so sad. i really want to cry rite now

  • @Kyasiamful It's okay. You should. This shows your soul maturing and compassion coming forth. I say this because EVERYTHING I see now that I have awakened saddens me to the point that I just want to get up and do something but I don't know how to go about it. Look at what happens to people who try to bring the TRUTH to ENABLE us ALL to become ONCE AGAIN A PART OF THE ALL....

  • everybody expressing what the problem is but no one can come up with a real solution...the solution the only solution is God's Kingdom. It will bring an end to all of human kind's problems...and bring a world of peace, justice and righteousness

  • Marvin Gaye proably wrote one of the first songs about the enivorment actually.

  • We also need to control how much we reproduce. We're crowding out every other living creature on the face of this planet. Not saying stop having children all togather, just have a limit that's all!

  • When will we learn?

  • ECOCITADEL MAGNUM ASTRON

YOUTUBE (DOT) C OM / MAGNUMASTRONPROJECT

  • Nothing's changed that much since 1970. Sad isn't it? Great video. Haunting end of song could be the cry of many people and animals who've died and suffered because of pollution.

  • @SVB2002 You mean 1971(when this song was out)right?

  • We can still change it....everyday more and more people choose to live their life with full responsibility....just join them.

  • Obama should have played this song as an intro when he gave his weak ass speech. That would have been truly progressive

  • can't imagine anything more beautiful than this song...it is sooooooo elevating...yet soo powerful, sad and nostalgic.....

  • Wonderful........................

  • Awsome job..beautifully done (and I see waaay before "BP's" disaster.

    Will we ever learn?

Thank you for the wonderful post.

    Peace & L.O.V.E

  • "Oil wasted on the ocean and in our seas fish full of mercury" 1979 was another oil spill in the Mexican gulf. It was mostly in Mexico. The bush regime let regulations be lax for oil drilling but Obama didn't fix that. Cut down on your plastic from petroleum, cut your petroleum use!

  • Great Video, Thanks for sharing!

  • never out of date....they are poisoning the water and the food, and killing the people.

  • This song would go great with a video of the Gulf Oil Spill right about now. Everything in this song is prophetic, e.g. the line "oil wasted on the ocean and upon our sea, fish full of mercury."

    Prophetic to this day.

  • More urgently relevant than ever--sadly.

  • REDO THIS VIDEO AND ADD THE GULF OIL DISASTER....

  • JUST SAW A VIDEO ON THE GULF OIL SPILL AND STARTED TO CRY WHEN I SAW THE HELPLESS BIRDS THAT WERE SOAKED IN OIL. BOYCOTT BP!

  • Marvin was such an insightful soul...Yet, it's 2010...what has changed? So sad :(

  • Pray like you have never prayed before...love to all...

  • This Marvin Gaye song from 1971(with a sax solo by Wild Bill Moore at the end)was released on Motown Records's Tamla label as Tamla 54207 and taken from the LP "What's Going On"

  • What makes me even more aware of this "racist bs.", is my husband is from Europe. He knows!!! (white as a snowflake.)

  • My brother a retired History Teacher told me that the Christoper Columbus bunch were thieves and ruthless people. Europe's rejects.. This Oil Spill, Katrina, I mean the list goes on....all out greed and racism. "chickens are coming home to Roast." And don't e mail me about a goddamn thing. Texas is trying to rewrite the dirt.

  • great video!

  • yes but we liked to be cooled when it is hot and stay warm when it'cold ..... so what's your answer to that?

  • Oil was cleaned off the first seabird today. 5000 dolphins are in the affected area of the Gulf; it's birthing time. Marine animal rescue groups preparing for the coming horror. Looks like shirmpers face economic ruin, too. Drill, baby, drill; spill, baby, spill!

thank you Marvin for this great song.....you understood..thank you

  • Overpopulate. Yes, that is the fucking problem. Since the Christians thought It was necessary...

  • Feel sorry for the earth. All these earthquakes and natural disasters= mother earth complaining

  • Very haunting indeed....esp the ending, chilling...

  • What we gonna do?

  • Humans suck.

  • what happens in sao paulo, this city here, in brazil, is that 700 tons of (shit) and degects are being thrown in one single river called Tiete. We have two more rivers in the same situation: Tamanduateí and Pinheiros. They all smelt terribly, terrifically, of shit. Large and beaituful avenues as Berini, for instance, they smell shit. The authorities"!!!" say nothing about the wates.

  • meh

  • The amazing thing about this song besides its message of the troubles of our ecology is Marvin's backgrounds are so heavenly not to mention his vocals arranged in a way where one of them sings the lyrics and the other just goes "ah mercy". Exquisite. Also a treat to hear legendary jazz saxophonist Wild Bill Moore on it.

  • I was always thought this song was about how Vietnam & the US in the early 70s. Then it took me a while to figure it out it was about the environment. Marvin Gaye was proably an early environmentalist for writing this song.

  • That's his other song What's Going On.

  • me,too .

  • Mercy Mercy Me!

  • Haunting song haunting message enough said....

  • Wholeheartedly agreed. Hemp pulp is a much more resilient, tough, productive, and usable product than timber pulp. It makes sense to return to the use of hemp for our pulp and paper needs, even our clothing.

Unfortunately, the misconceptions of hemp and the useless laws against it continue to prohibit its larger commercial production.

    Use hemp, save forests.

  • The song was written and preformed by Marvin Gaye.

  • @ckerst And it was also released in June 1971 as Tamla 54207 on Motown's Tamla Records label! Recorded in March 1971, the sax solo played in this song is by Wild Bill Moore.

  • no? really?

  • He sang this in 1971. Boy, we didn't listen, did we? WOW! I was in college and it was our song, but we thought things would be so much better. I'm so glad I voted for Barack. I think he'll do everything he can.

  • He hasn't been doing what we hoped he would regarding protection of species.

  • ur kiddin, we have 500+ elected federal officials running the entire nation, not one gives a rats ass about the enviorment or us. Gotta do for yourself, clean your own closet. no disrespect meant

  • Who wrote The Ecology?

  • Nature.

  • yo ya empece a educarme, usar menos minutos en la ducha, apagar las luces y desconectar mi computadora y tv, no usar bolsas de plastico y mas... thanks for the video

  • beautiful song

  • thats what im talking about.

this musicians use their talent to really send a message..

    great song...bless ya marvin!

  • Nice. Rare shot of a Cat C57 Bulldozer in action. I'm writing a song about my new (to me) Ural 4320 11 ltr engined Russian truck. It smokes like a bastard but will go anywhere, albeit on 4-6 mpg. I've already got a 4320 with a BM-21 Grad rocket system mounted on it but it's not as practical as my new runabout. Will post the song for you when it's ready.

  • Awesome video!!! The pictures are really sad. I love this song! I really wish that people would actually pay attention to the environment!

  • This video depresses me that this damage is all because of us. I wish people would care. Great song, too.

  • The Great Marv was singing this in 1971 to get mainstream public awareness. Can't say we weren't warned.......

  • Ecology... Think About... Thank You,Marvin Gaye!

  • I want to like our new President; but something is being revealed about the U.S. bombing babies, civilians....to this day. It almost seems as if Music may be our only salvation, outside of our personal lives. Nature is so polluted now...

  • Important message! Keep up the good work!

  • Frightening truths completely overlooked by the vast majority. Snapshots of multiple situations that could easily tip us to extinction unless we all ACT, like yesterday! But, I'm afraid we don't know the half of what has been dumped illegally, let alone what is obvious, & we are nearly too late on slowing industrial-produced climate change - still all talk for the most part, as the tipping point nears, & meanwhile, the planet is overpopulated -resources depleted- the wealthy will hoard them.

  • As a student of ecology, I must say that this video is amazing, but it failed to represent the core of ecology -- its not all about pollution.

  • die richtige einstellung

w3iter so ich setzt jetzt dann auch mal ein solches vid rein

    aggro 4ever

  • was I saying that we should continue to pollute and over populate? or was I saying that the very people we rely on to address the problems are the people whose corrupt self interests lead to the problems in the first place.

  • If human existance is such a corruption to this world, then why doesn't a high offical of some country command that several nations be nuclear bombed?

  • They dont need to, mother nature will do it herself. We are a spec in the existence of Earth, soon to be gone and forgotten. We are one of many organisms that have come and gone on Earth. Us humans seem to be the only ones worried about our certain demise though..

  • Nice song...maybe you people arguing should unglue yourself from your computers and actually go do something about it besides asking your mom to bring a sandwich to the basement for you. Bitch at me all you want. You still won't be solving the problem.

  • well produced vid! has my fav song!

  • i agree only because you used this song

  • the efforts of the strong minded are all but forgotten by the ignorent foolish world we have today

  • the war is inside us, between our ego, the human mind with its attachments to matter, and our hearts, our spirits, the buried innocence inside ourselves. This part of ourselves needs to manifest if we are to use this mayhem to achieve a new consciousness

  • i agree. it is our ignorance that causes and fuels these wars. unless we open our eyes and realize that, we will never learn and death and destruction will become all too familiar too us. perhaps it already is.

  • We're in a war. Now. Right now, to save what is left. Though I feel sometimes this war resembles the futile wars the Native Americans fought against white aggression. Scattered, and often fractured tribes and ideologies as to how to confront the white man. They couldn't come together to face a common enemy until it was too late.

Is the environmental movement on the road to the same extinction, as the WTO and multinational corporations become more powerful and prevalent?

  • We all need songs like this 1971 Marvin Gaye classic to lift our spirits up and end this life of crime and violence and air and water pollution and drugs and stuff and show some love and respect for one another!

  • Rave on, brother.

    Peace and Greenery.

  • If everybody in the whole world heard this song at once there would be a day with no violence and that day would be full of mad lovin.

  • Screw that. The Chinese would just keep on dumping poisons in everything, The Indians would keep on reproducing out of control, we'd keep on consuming everything we could buy. People are self-consumed idiots.

  • And your point of view is the same as the coorporate people who say "screw it" and they poison the earth and don't care.

  • I never said I don't care. I guess that, unlike you, I live in the real world. Keep dreaming, Peter Pan.

  • I quess I never believed in what I meant, (afterall it's just a song) but I did want to send out a positive message unlike alot of negative comments on the internet.

  • I can understand that, and I can appreciate your intent. Peace.

  • Well in the end you have to thank Europe and America for polluting our earth ... developing countries need to use coal and petroleum to lift themselves out of poverty, is it fair to punish these developing countries for Europe and America's past sins against the environment?

  • Hate to break it to you my friend but there's a lot more countries other than the US and Europe that are to blame. You forgot China, who has some of the most polluted cities in the world, Mexico, South America. If you're going to put blame on people then put it on all, not just the ones you don't see eye to eye with.

  • the problem is that politicians and corporations only interest in green issues is to exploit them as a means to squeeze more money out of us...period

  • If we continue to pollute and over populate what good will your money be? Are you going to buy tanks of clean air, how much will you pay for a glass of water that doesn't poison you?

  • strong message....

  • An oil spill in this area would be catastrophic for polar bears since there is no proven method for cleaning up oil in the Arctic's broken sea ice. Check it -> Sierra Club

  • Last week: oil exploration lease sales for Alaska's Chukchi Seas, prime polar bear habitat officially began. This area has been off-limits to drilling since 1991, but the new lease sales have encouraged oil companies to bid in epic proportions, with the result that oil lease rights to nearly 30 million acres of disappearing polar bear habitat were auctioned off - home to an estimated one-tenth of the world's polar bears!

  • Great work, definitely support you

I feel that apathy is like a sedative that covers us all...but how do we wake people up?

    ahhh anyway good job ckerst

  • What a heart wrenching collection of photos! Set to one of the greatest songs ever...5*****'s!!!

  • Nicely done video - check out some of the videos on my channel - especially "It's Not Too Late"... some of the same ideas.

  • those "Al Gore" solutions at the end won't cut it. we need to end the "free market" system that causes this. anyway, the global economy will collapse soon due to declining oil supplies. capitalism has wasted all the oil through inefficient social organization and wasteful consumption. some oil industry leaders have said global oil peaked in 2006, and are projecting shortages already. don't let the elites fool you! global warming is real, but so is peak oil!!

  • Awesome song and awesome video! Just think, this was written over 30 years ago and we haven't learned... Love you, Marvin!!!

  • Sad isn't it?

  • INDEED!

  • maravilhoso

  • I believed together we can make a defference, let keep the faith.Great Marvin!!!

  • we watched this in biology, very inspirational.

  • Marvin has been dead for over 20 years and his spirit still lives on in us. And this track will always stand the test of time!

  • i juss came on here 4 the song

  • This video is one of Marvin's best. It makes me think pf the world and what's going on in it.

  • 0:53-1 minute pissed me off and watered my eyes a little as well. I love animals and im holding a stuffed baby leopard i bought my mom for Mother's Day. How could people be so careless and/or selfish to endanger innocent, defenseless creatures? I stopped speaking to one of my best friends because he refused to pick up a Sprite bottle he dropped one day.

  • This video made me tear up a bit. I guess it's because I'm a bit of a pessimist when it comes up to the whole "will we(humans) brighten up and not exterminate ourselves and our beautiful home. It would be such a tragedy to have our legacy in the universe be "too dumb to save themselves".

    -The Stoned Negroe

  • haahahhaha the sign at 1:11 sais "fish in lake STUPID and rock pit lake" lawl hahaha

  • Grey Owl, Rachel Carson, Jane Goodall, David Suzuki, Marvin Gaye.

  • There still is a lot of beauty on this earth. However, a lot of beauty has been lost due to political policies. Also the people who enjoy nature and then mess it up by throwing their trash all over the place doesn't help matters. Bush Administration= bad environmental policies. Money seems to be more important than nature. What a shame. Keep the faith however.

  • THINK ABOUT IT

  • "Shame on humanity" is right. All you have to do is look at the highways - the garbage. It's so sad! Man is pathetic!! Waterbaby -drifterls's other half.

  • nicely done, a good compilation of images, well accompassed with the music (good choice), that prove a valuable point and spread the message of our individual responsability towards the earth.

Sadly enough, I'm not optimistic enoug to believe it will avoid what's inevitable, but at the most, delay it a bit...

  • Shame on humanity.

  • DEEP

  • this is just so sad, makes me wanna cry, o wait, i am crying...

  • This one of the all time great songs! Marvin was the man!

  • Cool video, scary and depressing but we need to pay attention to this.

  • Before any of today's predictions were Marvin Gaye's. Funktastic song.

  • great video...fantastic song by Marvin Gaye, one of the all time greats.

  • I will add this video to EnvironmentalVideos(dot)org !

  • hey thank you very much!

  • wow... this was incredible ... i loved it.
