scrap yard doesn't gain from it either. when we sit the cars out there and the parts they want are mainly from the motor. and we cant let them take anything off the motor cause of the substance they use
The results of small thinking; the adult equivalent of a roadside lemonade sale. The program blew the administration's cover regarding "going green." They couldn't care less about "green," just the power they gain through scams like this. Getting people who are out of work to go further in debt by taking many perfectly good cars off the road, which could have been used by people who couldn't and shouldn't buy a new one. More idiocy in D.C. Great "change." People should change oil, not the car.
i drove in a few junckyards and i seen a 2003 gmc suv a really nice no rust f150s i seen a few i also seen a few really nice vans and lots of really nice s10s and blazers what a bunch of bull shit and if there going to take them at least part them out and not blow them up im so out raged they should of basest it on how it ran and how bad it was rusted not mpg nice mint cars/trucks/vans are going to waste for no reson at all whats going to happen to all the new cars
People don't have jobs. Reposessions are at record highs. These people buy $1000 clunkers for transportation (this is environmental polution resulting from political polution). Wall Street, the Politicians and Govt. Employees are getting HUGE Bonuses (for ???) and now they are cashing in on their 3 year old Clunker (it beats cleaning or servicing their car) billing the Midle Class Taxpayer their children, grandchildren. Now these buyers are on the Repo Mans Radar. Nothing smart about being dumb.
I guess we already forgot about the fact that assembly lines were shutting down, part manufacturers were going bankrupt, and dealerships were closing. Everybody was worried about whether they will have a job tomorrow and putting of buying a new car. Now it's time to bitch and complain like none of that happened. I guess it's a good thing when we forget.. a sign that things are looking up.
your totally right...so many people are worried about losing their jobs in almost EVERY field of work. So what better investment for them then to go out and buy a new car! Why would any American, even the people that you're talking about who are directly effected by a slowing auto industry want to put THEIR asses on the line for this?
In economic terms it called the "liquidity trap" Yes, you described the psychology that perpetuates it however the spike in auto sales as a result of the program reflects it's the governments ability to reverse the vicious cycle. Watch and learn as the economy recovers. Then hopefully you will see that the right wing fear mongers don't know jack about economics.
So they made cars for a month or two, big deal, how many cars do you think they will make now that our government stopped this free for all bullshit program that helped people that didnt need help.
(you dont buy a new car when your losing your house or are unemployed)
All the people that were going to buy, or even thinking of buying a car in the next year have be harvested, they thought it was dead before lets just see how many cars are sold now.
Like I said, the problem is called the "liquidity trap". You are right that the after effect will cause a lull in the sales of autos. However the goal is to stop the hemorrhaging of the economy and prime the pump. Preliminary results suggest it has succeeded. It's like shoving a kid on a bike... after they get a little momentum things take care of it's self in the broad economy. The hard part is the start and this program was the shove.. but isnt permanent nor is it intended to be.
hey i like this guy! i think he has this right you have to think now if the govt. has the money to cover this program. dealers are pulling out of this cause they aint getting payed!!!!
I saw where one dealer in California has turned 178 vouchers, and been paid for one of them. That dealer is carrying $780 thousand with no idea of when it will be paid.
The Crushing of COMPLETE CARS, tiers, rims and all is COSTLY. think of the JOBS of the folks at the JUNK YARDS that are being LOST. Supposedly yards have 180 days to crush out, this is a REAL WASTE
you would think at least something could be salvaged here...if this program is suppose to be helping the envirnment as well, then why is there so much waste? Its costly, not to mention it underminds the cleaner air initiative because factories are polluting to remake all these smashed parts!
Correct, the "grinder" has to separate alot more, which costs more money, and alot is not salvaged and recycled as pure metal, and tires, etc all lost
I'm waiting for all of these idiots who got rid of their older & even newer cars (I've seen some newer cars being trashed for this program!) for a car from this C4C program & then can't afford the payments down the road. I'd never overlook the logic of keeping my good running car vs. getting a new car with fucking car payments & with mandatory full coverage insurance. Jeez!
The bad guy is Obama. Does he want to take any tours of Manhattan on a helicopter perhaps? :) hehe my oh my it would be such a shame if a plane plowed into that chopper. Maybe Nancy Pelosi can be the pilot.
They have to crush the clunkers, or else if they give them to people for free, as you say, they will just bring them back for another 4500$...duh! Thats the problem, most people voicing opinions on this program, dont actually take the time to think...they are against it cause they are against the government.
People that dont like stimulus plans for the economy, are probably the same people on welfare that dont feel like getting a job to better their condition.
The vehicle needs to be owned and insured for a year prior. The second owner would not be eligible.
Someone who is intelligent will realize that this program is a waste of taxpayer dollars. There are better ways to provide incentives to purchase products.
Very true, an intelligent person will see the waste of this program. If the govt wants to stimulate the economy through cars sales, they could give tax incentives or sponsor cash back on new cars.
That could get some of the worst cars off the road. A lot more people could trade up a little, and the worst cars could be retired.
is that so? how about people like me who NEED to have a truck to stay employed...but cant come up with the ridiculous 20k it takes to get a new one even WITH this tax credit? i hate this program because nice affordable vehicles like this dakota are getting destroyed. whats next, bulldoze your house to get $4500 off a half million dollar mansion?
Actually you couldn't bring the cars back for 4500 because you must prove that you have owned the car for the past 2 years by providing the dealer with you registration or pink slip. And im not against the government. Im actualy very grateful for the cash for clunkers program because I just used it to get a brand spanken new Ford Fusion thank you very much. Zing!!!
I'm glad this guy agreed to be interviewed. People need to know how idiotic this program is. I really like Machine140's comments because you see that people that need trucks need them and the fuel mileage isn't really any better these days. It's better for the environment to keep your older vehicle anyhow.
I'm sure a lot of people don't care, but then again, some people I'm sure are really pissed off.
What is the number of cars that will be on Repo in the next year from this program. $4500 and $0 on the trade-in. You can bet your ass the Cars that qualify are marked up $4500.
yeah that's the same thing i was wondering. You bring a "clunker" the govt say it passes for one and then you get the 4500 and a new car they take your old car and shred it .Then you get a call from the dealership saying oh hey the govt made a mistake your old car didnt pass and you need to bring the new one back.. All in all that person is going to be SOL cause they shredded the old car pretty much telling him it's your problem your w/o a car since the govt made a mistake
True, I hope that dont happen but its a good possibility. I dont think this Government likes people looking at the outcome of a program thy would rather us look only at there good intentions. I know one thing if a politician has been in office for more than two terms Im just going to vote for the other person. My slogan. Fus no Fu your fired.
hey i like this guy, i think he has it right about the govt. the only outfit that could complicate things to point where you can't understand what they want!!!!!
We keep on electing politicians who couldn't pour warm piss out of a boot and then we act surprised at the outcome. Let's clean house in 2010 and 2012 and see if we can get it right. "Cash for Clunkers" ..... 136 pages of senseless regulations followed by the destruction of a perfectly good vehicle. And we put up with this crap. Shame on us.
His last comment sums up the program well. Perfectly good vehicle, someone would love to own, has to be crushed.
They could take a vehicle even less efficient that the Dakota, and let that owner swap it for the Dakota. That would get an even more inefficient vehicle off the road.
Thanks for using my tax dollars for this, Obummer!
is really should only go to usa made cars and that 136 pg. booklet! There are cars that are just 2 to 3 yrs. old and they are excellent cars and they are going to be crshed, like the truck the guy is discussing about! Again The Gov has screwd this country over so only they make the $! People wise up before you end up in the streets! for it is coming impeach Obama!
one thing everyone this money should only go to american cars otherwise whats the point, the economy won't get better when people buy imports, its our money so why take it to make japans economy better? there should be a clause for the program, american only!
you are sooooooooooo right about that .japan isnt worried about our economy ..toyota is doing just fine ..this should only be a program just for american cars ...we need to see ford GM and chrysler make it ...i personally hate any and all imports ...we are americans and we need to take care of our own first and not worry about toyota honda or any other import ..and i dont care how many import auto makers are in the country now..WE COME FIRST
I cant wait until they control my health care and better yet yours!
They cant even manage a measly $1 billion program right. The Senate couldnt make money on its own cafeteria, and yet there are people who want to turn over the nations health care system (1/6th of our economy) to these clowns
This shit takes the cake. It's Obamas end. he will not survive this legislation, bad judgement, terrible waste. New car manf. use great amounts of energy to build a car.
the construction worker doesnt benefit he is right...thats why i drive my 1988 f-150 GAS HOG....because construction doesnt make you enough money for a 20 thousand dollar truck
machine: you are repeating one aspect of the program where YOU might benefit by not crushing an older vehicle. the program is designed to (A) get the biggest polluters and gas hogs off the road and (B) to stimulate the economy. it (the program) is accomplishing both of those goals.
heres why this doesnt benefit me or and of my co-workers- a truck is mandatory for hauling materials. even new trucks dont get that much better gas mileage. however, newer trucks cost twice as much to repair, not to mention twice as much as they did 10 years ago to buy brand new. so how does having a huge car note, almost as much in gas, and more expensive service going to help? i can crawl under my 88 when it breaks and have it running again for next to nothin
machine: here is the error in your thinking -- newer vehichles pollute less even if the mileage isn't a lot better than older ones and if the truck is new it only makes logical sense that repairs would be less. again, you are only thinking of yourself as opposed to the bigger picture. the program is intended to help thousands of struggling auto workers who need a job just as much as you.
yeah but the bigger picture here is everyone can afford a new vehicle. why would anyone care about their vehicle polluting if thats all they can get? vehicles that these people can afford are being destroyed....saying that this view point only applies to myself is flat out ignorant...just because YOU can afford something like that dont just think we all can
machine: [yeah but the bigger picture here is everyone can afford a new vehicle.] what?? your previous examples were indicating your frustration with the program because of how it affected you personally, now you have broadened it to cover others. to trade one older gas guzzling polluter in for a slightly newer gas guzzling polluter would not be improving the air quality at all.
yes i broadened it to give you a better example of how im not the only one this effects. im not even talking about improving air quality! im saying alot of people simply CANNOT AFFORD a new vehicle...but all the older ones they CAN afford are being destroyed...what part of this are you incapable of understanding?
what about the polutants one car cuase from being manufactured one time...then it must go threw the process all over again and the polutaints invovled a second time around...when i feel its better leaving well enuff alone to begin with think about the polutaints and energy consumed twice just to make this car all over again ????..and alot of these cars are fine ..they should be auctioned off real cheap to someone who cant afford a high$ car???
390: you make a valid point. there is energy consumed and pollution created when any new product is made. however, the program was designed to stimulate the troubled american auto industry as well as put newer less polluting cars on the road. no program will make everyone happy but this one has allowed many thousands of americans get into a new -- more fuel efficient -- auto.
yeah...i see your point..i guess i am just a car guy and it kills me to see alot of these cars go to waste ...i wonder though..the pollutents made to process a new car is higher then actually letting the old car sirvive ...alot of it just seems so wastfull to me..sure..some auto's need to be off the road , but i have seen vids with a ford truck that couldnt of been more then 8 years old ready to be crushed and i cant believe being only 8 years old that it could do alot of polutting .jmo
You're not alone, I wish there was a petition out there to sign to at least send these cars to needy families or pick a part lots. So much good would've came out of this which potentially could have helped many people and not just car lots and new car buyers.
Don't get me wrong, there are some cars that need to be crushed, but so far every car I've seen were decent enough to be resold. Hell if they wanted to stop polluting make all cars run on electricity! Too easy.
yeah..i think alot of ppl juast hopped on the band wagon to get something new ..so going this way was good for them , but i bet most of these vehicles had nothing wrong with them ..and yeah..some need to come off the road , but not all of them
ghetto: this program is offering something for the average working guy or gal. the cost has been upped to 3 billion which is a pittance compared to the 15 trillion you speak of. republican trickle down economics and the war in iraq caused a lot of the mess of which you speak. obama had no choice to spend to avoid a catastrophic economic collapse. it is reagan and bush that ruined the economy.
this doesnt help the working class. im a construction worker and me and almost everyone else out there in the trenches relies on having these old buckets around because we cant afford new vehicles even with this tax break...so get off your high horse pal and go back to your cush overpaid office job
Oh, God forbid. republicans have to do "research" to see if their vehicle qualifies for this energy saving incentive??? And this car salesman? I wouldn't buy a soda from him. He looks like the typical, squirrel-ey, Obama hating wingnut.
And people actually want idiots in Washington to run our health care system? Let this be a PERFECT EXAMPLE WHY THAT SHOULD NEVER NEVER EVER HAPPEN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
The clunker has to be destroyed, so this program hurts the parts recyclers and the poor who could use some of these vehicles . . . . but what would you expect from a gov't program?
because you stupid fucking idiots are too lazy to look the rules up. You are getting a 4,500 credit to look up some regulations you lazy fuckign fools. Goddamnit I hate being an american sometimes with stupid fuckign retards like this representing the rest of our country.
maby the guy at the end learned how to spell clunker (clunkr) lol

jnycnuk 2 years ago
yeah but the bigger picture here is everyone can afford a new vehicle. why would anyone care about their vehicle polluting if thats all they can get? vehicles that these people can afford are being destroyed....saying that this view point only applies to myself is flat out ignorant...just because YOU can afford something like that dont just think we all can
Machine140 2 years ago 2
machine: [yeah but the bigger picture here is everyone can afford a new vehicle.] what?? your previous examples were indicating your frustration with the program because of how it affected you personally, now you have broadened it to cover others. to trade one older gas guzzling polluter in for a slightly newer gas guzzling polluter would not be improving the air quality at all.
jnycnuk 2 years ago
yes i broadened it to give you a better example of how im not the only one this effects. im not even talking about improving air quality! im saying alot of people simply CANNOT AFFORD a new vehicle...but all the older ones they CAN afford are being destroyed...what part of this are you incapable of understanding?

what about the polutants one car cuase from being manufactured one time...then it must go threw the process all over again and the polutaints invovled a second time around...when i feel its better leaving well enuff alone to begin with think about the polutaints and energy consumed twice just to make this car all over again ????..and alot of these cars are fine ..they should be auctioned off real cheap to someone who cant afford a high$ car???
390merc65 2 years ago 4
destroying otherwise good running cars is terrible. It is to force consumers into car payments.
MrTnebwa 2 years ago 5
well there not forced into it..but its all bullshit to just throw these cars away
390merc65 2 years ago 5
390: you make a valid point. there is energy consumed and pollution created when any new product is made. however, the program was designed to stimulate the troubled american auto industry as well as put newer less polluting cars on the road. no program will make everyone happy but this one has allowed many thousands of americans get into a new -- more fuel efficient -- auto.
jnycnuk 2 years ago
yeah...i see your point..i guess i am just a car guy and it kills me to see alot of these cars go to waste ...i wonder though..the pollutents made to process a new car is higher then actually letting the old car sirvive ...alot of it just seems so wastfull to me..sure..some auto's need to be off the road , but i have seen vids with a ford truck that couldnt of been more then 8 years old ready to be crushed and i cant believe being only 8 years old that it could do alot of polutting .jmo
390merc65 2 years ago 4
You're not alone, I wish there was a petition out there to sign to at least send these cars to needy families or pick a part lots. So much good would've came out of this which potentially could have helped many people and not just car lots and new car buyers.
Don't get me wrong, there are some cars that need to be crushed, but so far every car I've seen were decent enough to be resold. Hell if they wanted to stop polluting make all cars run on electricity! Too easy.
markVIIchick 2 years ago 2
yeah..i think alot of ppl juast hopped on the band wagon to get something new ..so going this way was good for them , but i bet most of these vehicles had nothing wrong with them ..and yeah..some need to come off the road , but not all of them

ghetto: this program is offering something for the average working guy or gal. the cost has been upped to 3 billion which is a pittance compared to the 15 trillion you speak of. republican trickle down economics and the war in iraq caused a lot of the mess of which you speak. obama had no choice to spend to avoid a catastrophic economic collapse. it is reagan and bush that ruined the economy.
jnycnuk 2 years ago
this doesnt help the working class. im a construction worker and me and almost everyone else out there in the trenches relies on having these old buckets around because we cant afford new vehicles even with this tax break...so get off your high horse pal and go back to your cush overpaid office job
Machine140 2 years ago 2
the program is so successful that new money has to be added today. so what's this donuthole talking about!
jnycnuk 2 years ago
This program has holes.....
For one, the cars that are traded in can't be resold....
And 2, some of these car lots are "having their cake and eating too" by resale-ing the clunkers and still getting the bailout money....

Let this be a PERFECT EXAMPLE WHY THAT SHOULD NEVER NEVER EVER HAPPEN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
xpandergt 2 years ago
The clunker has to be destroyed, so this program hurts the parts recyclers and the poor who could use some of these vehicles . . . . but what would you expect from a gov't program?
;)

It is probably written in legalese that only some bureaucrat doctorate in law understands. Think tax code and you'll get the idea.
