  • could i use the alcohol prep swaps that we use to cleanse digital thermometers?

  • Could you use a nail polish remover instead of the alcohol?

  • @FierceEryk

oh my gosh no!! The acetone Will ruinthe finish on the plates.

  • @bunny9585 Thanks for telling me! I was about to use it today. xd

  • Did u use water ?

  • @NiceLean

    no I said rubbing alcohol..

  • @bunny9585

    oh K ! :p

  • Is it bad to do it while ur iron is still warm?

  • @tatyn1115

it should be okay. But no harm in letting it cool.

  • will your hair spell bad after you do that like from the alcohal?

  • neverrrrr clean your straighteners with alcohol! it's horrible for the plates.

  • @fish05

    actually its not.

  • do u just let the alcohol dry after u clean it

  • @bailypoo456 yes it evaporates.

  • Do you wet it with Water?

  • @LeaaLeaax2

    No alcohol.

  • My friend has brown stuff on it? Is it the color of her hair or just dirt? Her hair is brown

  • @KenzillamKM

It is all the oils from her hair, heat protectent, hair spray. Also it could be hair dye.

  • @KenzillamKM Ok thx Ur Video was helpful!

  • Thanks so much! My plates are brown! lol Ill try this :)

  • @BriannaSwift13

    They'll be like new.

  • @engelk3u

Well it should do the trick

  • Thank you

  • i needed this advice a loooot!this worked for me!yayy!!thank you sweetie!=)

  • @annaczxxify

that is wonderful. i'm happy it worked for you.

  • isn't alcohol flammable?

  • @beautyforeverx3

It evaporates, and you don't have a flame right by it lol.

  • this sucked! alcohol didn't do anything!

  • @babiichola714

I'm sorry it didn't work for you. I guess you have a lot of stuff on your iron. As you can see in the video it took everything off of my iron!

  • @Bunny9585 Can you use contact solution or anything else? Or can it only be rubbing alcohol?

  • @leialemon

No do not use contact solution! It needs to be rubbing alcohol, to eat away the hairspray and such. you can buy it at a drugstore for less than a dollar.

  • omg thank you so much i have been trying to find out how to do this for a very long time

  • @shahonnabernard

You are welcome!! You will love how it glides through your hair once it is cleaned!

  • does the flat iron need to be on ?

  • @akalove93

Oh gosh NO!! Don't do that.. Don't ever use it by liquid, you will get shocked. It needs to be off, and completely cooled.

  • @bunny9585 oh sorrry ! haha .. its caused i had a friend who did it like that ?! umm i guess i should tell her NOT to do that . haha

  • Would the rubbing alchohol damage the plates?

  • @missjuicysista

No it will not damage the plates, you need to besure not to use anything rough to wipe it down. So use a soft cloth, or cotton. Don't scratch it.

  • So it's okay to wipe down the plates with alcohol?

  • @JuicyJuice1116

It sure is. Or you can use a warm water on a cotton ball. But the alcohol gets all the grim off quicker!

  • @JuicyJuice1116

You can even use Windex. Spray Windex or moisten a cotton pad with rubbing alcohol and wipe the plates with them.

  • omg thank you so much i needed to know how to do this sooooooo badly!

  • @xadorkablex1

    You are welcome!

  • Wow! This really did work! I used rubbing alcohol and it took off all the residue it had not only but that my flatirons handles were with this thick black build up of hairspray and i was wondering ow to remove it and now it looks good as new :D

  • @JuLiEkidd15

It really does work!! I make sure I do it at least once a month.. Or when I can feel that my hair doesn't glide right through.. I'm glad it worked out for you!

  • I heard that cleaning it with nail polish remover works too. Is this true?

  • @jessie245

I wouldn't think so. I think the acetone would eat your plates, And if you have a nice iron you don't want to ruin the finish... So I wouldn't do it!

  • @bunny9585 I actually took the liberty of looking it up myself and found out that it's actually completely okay to use nail polish remover for the CHI. I've done it a couple of times myself and there's actually no damage to it. Same results as rubbing alcohol.

  • @jessie245

That is good you found that out. I myself would still never do that, I wouldn't want to risk it. But i'm glad that it has worked out for you. :)

  • Can it be rubbing alcohol???

  • @xXXxMusic4uxXXx Yes.. that is the alcohol i'm talking about. It's not the drink.. lol

  • do you like this straightner**

    sorry!

  • would you like the straighter? I want to the one you have, and does it make your hair super straight? thanks:)

  • @sarahscreamm It does.. I used to use a revlon flat iron, and it took forever!! to straighten my hair. This will do it so fast, and the heat really helps tame the friz!! love love the CHI. It's a good investment. And now actually they are so much cheaper than when I bought mine!

  • my plates are all brown bc when i dyed my hair i straightened it without knowing.... =\ i dont know if this will work

  • @Lovemonkeysxox They turned brown? wow.. Well I hope that this will clean it off!! Good luck!

  • Is your iron on while your cleaning it?

  • @AyyySquared NO!! Don't do that. It's just like putting it in water you will get hurt. It wasn't on and it wasn't plugged in.

  • I thought it'd be flamable but it works great :]

  • @zanessaloviex Nope it is totally fine! I'm glad it worked for you!

  • this works for any straightener right?

  • @xthatlittleTANgirlx Correct!

  • ummmm isnt rubbing alchohal flamable!?

  • @megatalentx2 It evaporates... nothing has ever happened..

  • @bunny9585 o haha ok that good :)

  • willl it damage my hair after using achol

  • @shirellemone128 No it will not. The alcohol evaporates while its drying. So you're fine.

  • @bunny9585 thanx imm trying it right now

  • ok um i left my flat iron on my colored carpet and it left some nail polish on it ! help?

  • @dachshundpuppy I'm sorry I don't understand your comment. You left it on the floor? and it burned your carpet? or the carpet is burned on to the iron?

  • I used products I found home :

An anti - headlices treatment that I haven,t used in years that has 90% alcohol.

    :D

Makes it smooth and sliding faster.

    Thanks a lot!

I recommend doing this 1 time per month.

  • @lilmissgaga That is good it worked for you. I'm not sure if that was safe to use on your iron, but you'll be the judge of that.

Yes your hair will glide right through! its so nice!

  • Lol, i use to store my contacts with the same Opti-free product- now i upgraded!

Hhaha, anywho- are you sure the alcohol won't damage my straightener?

Well i have so much gunk i just need to be saved haha-thanks for the tip!

  • @xXsemiaznbabeeXx10 I've upgraded too, Yes the alcohol is fine. Just make sure you are not using something hard to wipe it down. You don't want to scratch your plates. So use cotton balls, squares, a tissue. and take your time.

  • wow thanks i wasnt sure if alcohol would damage the straightener, so i was just using water and it wasnt doing much. Andi need a quick way to clean it ever since my older brother started using my straightener its been getting dirty twice at fast.

  • no wonder my hair was going as good through when i curl it.

  • @skaitlin33 :) its nice to clean it!

  • @bunny9585 yah i tried it tonight, great video. thanks (:

  • Covergirl tests its products on animals.

  • @DarthBriana You're right they do.

  • @DarthBriana

How sad, :( And i was thinking about doing a commercial for

    Covergirl...I guess not anymore

  • Thank you. I didn't know what was safe or not, so I was just using water. It builds up so quickly and it is gross!

  • It does build up quick.. its gross!! I'm glad you cleaned it off though..

    thanks for watching!

  • Thanks very much! But i tried something else.

When i was 6 years old, i used to have these headlaces ( you know those little bugs who live in your hair & suck your blood) Well, my mom still had one of the traitements with 60% of alcohol in it so i used it on my flat iron and my hair, this morning, was really soft & straight! :D

  • I don't own alcohol right now.

What other products can i use?

I didn't know you can clean your flat iron so i never cleaned it and i need to clean it, FAST.

  • Warm water.

  • What if i don't have alcohol?

Please help, my flat iron is REALLY dirty :/

  • I used to clean mine with a paper towl that had warm water.. try that.

  • even when the flat iron is ceramic?

  • Yes.. Its with any HOT TOOL.

  • I've tried that. Doesn't work, but I think I already have too much gunk build-up. Maybe I should use a brillo pad.

  • NO NO NO!! don't use a brillo pad on your flat iron, That would ruin it! What kind of straightener do you have?

  • I have a Curlmaster Ceramic.

  • well i woudn't scrub your iron..

  • Hi :) What can you use instead of alcohol?? I've tried this with rubbing alcohol and it worked amazing but then i spilt the rest of it by accident....

  • @fuzzypeaches772 Hey there! I guess you could just use really warm water, and a paper towl. The alcohol just dissolves the grim better.

  • Omg i love this video!! thank god someone made one of these videos:D this helped a bunch!!!

  • I know!.. And I clean it about once every 2 weeks.. It glides on your hair so much better!!

  • are you sure the alcohol does not damage the ceramic plates?????????

  • Im sure.

  • Kool thanks

  • of course!!

  • does that wreck your striaghtner a bit tho ? liek the plates??

  • No its just alchol.. it wont do anything. I was told to clean it this way,

  • u know u can clean ur gace with 70% alchole and but it on ur face let it dry over the night rinse ur fance with soap and water nd ur face is like clean it helps ppl with ANITE!

  • It was alittle hard to read what you wrote but that is a good tip.

  • wtf is anite do you mean acne?

  • omg thanks sooo much!!! i almost bought a new one. you helped me save a lot of money!! Thanks again!!

  • you are welcome!! it does save your iron!! and your wallet!!

  • please enter my contest!! this is the collab channel, so the video is on my other youtube-winstonluv12

so reply to me on there and don't forget to sub to both channels!

  • Thanks so much for the video, I just tried it and it works fantastic! Again thanks!

  • Oh you are welcome!.. it does make a difference right!!! Glad it helped!

  • i wentt on google and it saidd you can use nail polish remover instead, which i did and it worked so great. then i took a damp face cloth nd wiped the plates down after (: thanks for the video

  • Really. i've never heard of that. I just do it this way cause my Salon girl talked about it. and thanks for commenting!

  • after ur done cleaning it can u use it after

  • Yes deffinately!! I mean let it dry but other than that you should be good to go!. and you'll notice how much better it glides on your hair!!. and the alchol drys quick!

  • thank u so much

  • You're welcome.

  • Thanks! I always wondered why I thought my hair straightener kept seeming to get worse.

And apparently cursing at it and telling it things about it's mother wasn't the problem. (:

  • you are welcome.. it does make a difference once it is clean. So now you can be happy with it. :D

  • yuck, now i know where that gross smell is coming from when i turn my flat iron on lol

  • true.. it does start to have a smell!. so go clean it.. it only takes a second!.

  • oh jajajajajajjajajaja

i have never cleaned mine! now i must, so thanks alot, ugh.............. :p

  • haha.. they just get so gross, You'll look at it go eww.. haha.. but it does make it glide easier too! oh and your welcome
