@tacticalbassin thanks just getting into swimbait fishing started small with weed less hudds and now at throwing 8 in hawgs ! i have to say im verry impressed with the fish they produce .
Isn't the trout support to look injured and weak? Cutting out the fins will make it look active like its full energetic can't say about the gills though they do represent a weak or active fish nice tips though
Good advice Matt. One tip I'd like to add if I could, super glue will bond instanly under water. If you're in a hurry, keep a bucket of water next to you while doing the mods. Dip the bait after you apply the glue and you're done!
thats a big bait lol anyways how many lb test do you recommend when using this rig on a baitcast? also, would it matter with the rod and reel set up? such as length and gear ratio?
Mowderhed, That was a really well thought out question. Yes, sometime bass eat the bait head on but since its (at least in theory) always moving forward you need that hook pointed the direction that it is. Also, despite what everyone has to say about how bass eat trout I've watched a LOT of big bass come up behind the bait and just completely engulf it. Even the fish that aim for the head tend to suck the whole bait in sideways in one motion.
i guess my comment i just made didnt show up, anyways... what are your thoughts on the way the main jig hook faces? a bass would generally consume the lure head first so you would think if it faced the other way then people would hook up alot more. this thought doesnt really apply to smaller baits and im sure you could think of many reasons why such as the lure has room in the bass's mouth to turn around and the bass probably doesnt care which way he consumes it if its small enough anyways.
Matt, What primary color hudd's do you use in the ca delta ? - Freddy

@xFredox Honestly, i just use trout. It doesn't matter, they don't care most of the time.

@darknessfalls714 I use a Calcutta 400B for the big baits and a curado 300 for the smaller offerings.

@FishboiFishboi use 40-80 lb braid with a long sturdy rod like an 8 foot or 7'6"

I'm sorry you struggled with it. Don't worry, that doesn't hurt the bait's ability to catch fish at all. They're still going to swallow it. :-)
