  • fuck guitar hero

  • @cman13418 his psycho hose-beast missus

  • heard this on guitar hero :)

  • One of my fav Elliott Smith songs :P

  • this was on guitar hero? cool...ish.... I think?

at least more people have heard his music now.

  • For those who are fans of Elliott Smith since the beginning and those who heard them on Guitar Hero (Like myself), I have to say I really don't mind where someone hears a song from. If they like the song so much that they can enjoy more songs from the band so be it. That's what happened with me and Killswitch Engage and Alter Bridge. For those that only listen to one song then leave the band alone, that is their choice.

  • @bloodymerc2 You discovered Alter Bridge...I love you. Thank god for Guitar Hero!

  • this guy sounds like phineas thumbs up if you agree

  • omg! i just love this song! its like...smooth rock! i love it!

  • I love this album, the instrumentation is stunning.

  • I love you Elliott, we'll miss you all..

  • Thank you Guitar Hero!!!!!!

  • @sergiuliniable got that right they should make more of them and take their time doing them

  • there's something hauntingly good about this, even though my genre is death metal and rap...this is extremely good. i'll be listening to more of elliott for sure. thank you guitar hero.

  • The only song I've ever heard that nails what it feels like to grow up in Los Angeles.Things I've never done, cars parked in the sun,Last night I was about to throw it all away."About to" throw it all away is telling. No one when I was in school ever killed themselves. A couple of guys died driving drunk on PCH. But I can't remember anyone committing suicide.I love LA and all of California.

  • @bret66g his death is questionable, someone stabbing themselves multiple times... come on. any way I know his music is dark, but as a black man who normally listened to rap and murder music, he spoke to me,. I dont listen to mainstream rap anymore, but a variety. music is storys of others lives to be told and i long to hear it. I am one of those who caught on to his music late, but it save my life literally, and that is what art is to me. a mesagge. rip Mr. Smith luv U too much

  • When I first played this for my friend, he thought it was George Harrison. I may have my Rock Band do this song.

  • One of the most underrated albums in history.

  • i wonder what kind of guitar he was playing for this recording?

  • @12spartanfan Probably a Gibson Es-335

  • he sounds like a mix of the beatles (saw someone on another video had written that and agreed) and the guy from incubus. I love his voice xD

  • SHUT UP AND ENJOY THE MUSIC!

  • I made sweet, consensual love to the replay button on this song...

  • I miss Elliott.

  • im gonna take both sides of this ongoing arguement, while yes elliott didnt think he was the right kind of a person to be famous (he didn't actually want to perform at the grammys) as long as people are actually diggin his music i think its good for it to be on guitar hero, the only problem i have is when kids go around bragging to their friends about knowing about this amazing singer songwriter when they only know one song

  • @peacelovemusic2461

The star's just a part of the scene.

  • @peacelovemusic2461 the joke really is on them though, they only know 1 elliott smith song....we on the other hand have had years to enjoy who i think is the best song writer of our generation

  • It's a crying shame he's dead, i've only of recent heard about him from a friend and i'm in love <3

  • this shouldn't be in guitar hero. As far as the argument that the kids should be exposed to Elliott is completely ludicrous. His music is really fucking dark (I dont mean that in a bad way). He mentions in a few interviews that he felt uncomfortable singing at the oscars. Do you really think he would want dumb ass making him a household name?

  • 85,000 views. wtf this song should have way more if people had good opinions on music these days

  • hey elliott its time to wake up again

  • This song screams LA! So full of life!! I swear every song he's made, ever single one impresses me again and again.

  • buena la cancion...=D

  • I think that the people talking shit about Guitar Hero really need to think about what they're saying. I mean sure, if they don't like the game then they have every right to give their opinion on it, but seriously.. It showcases good rock music to younger audiences, who may have never heard most of the songs. I would rather that instead of having rap, R&B and pop dominating the radio for the next 20 years because that's all they know..

  • Some of you people act like Elliott Smith is gonna sell out now that he got hooked up with Guitar Hero. You realize he's deceased, yes? If anything, props to GH for putting some good music on their game.

  • They put this on guitar hero? I suddenly have a drop more hope for society... :D

  • I'm a 50 year old who does bad Beatle covers, and has an affinity for Lynyrd Skynrd.

Am I unfit then to enjoy this music?

    God I hate music snobs.

  • @rubbersole79 no, man. not at all. If you find something good, share it.

  • @rubbersole79 No, not unfit at all. This is so your time and place! I mean, this sounds like the Beatles, like real lotts. Wait... do you enjoy this music?

  • @Ghostshepard

Very much so. I may have over-reacted or mis-interpeted some previous comments.....

  • Powerpop perfection.

  • Guitar Hero is only a problem if people starting calling songs like this or others "that guitar hero song." Or they have an iPod full of mainstream party music and then throw these in just because they heard it on a video game. Guitar Hero is a great tool to discover music but don't let be the only one. Use it as a jumping off point, not the end all be all of your rock music knowledge.

  • @Deuteronomy213 I knew about rock before it, but it turned me on to some good music or even songs I didn't even know an artist had: Spanish Castle Magic from Jimi

  • So good yet so under rated, but I am glad :)

  • lol guitar hero 5???? elliott smith!!!!!!

  • Personaly I love Gutair Hero! I think it's awesome that little kids get access to this type of music and all the other shit they have on the games...think about it otherwise kids wouldn't know who Elliott Smith was or Samhain for that matter.

  • @whitney86100 ...no little kids p.s. i rock at this song1

  • perfect song

  • This is why I haven't sold my Guitar Hero 5 yet...

  • I can't get this song out of my head! Elliott Smith's voice is haunting.

  • Living in the day. Last night I was about to throw it all away.

  • Guitar Hero 5 !!

  • what else has he done that sounds like this song? i find miss misery too depressing, but this song is right on!

  • Back in college, a buddy of mine bought Figure 8 when it came out, I bought an album that Mike Patton did. I enjoy Mike Patton and all his weird, assorted projects he's done, but after hearing this song 10 years later, I should have bought this instead.

  • @Addendum69 You made the right choice. Mr. BUNGLE, MAN.

  • @SomeMightEvenDie If I was smart or heard some of Smith's stuff, I should have bought both.

  • If you read this, I miss you so much. I just miss talking to you and I cant believe I cant talk to you anymore. How did things get so bad. I used to talk to you about everything and now I dont know how to anymore.

  • I love playing this song on guitar hero it is so fun

  • The intro sounds so familiar!

  • the only thing better then elliott is alot of elliott :)

  • my shit

  • awesome awesome awesome songwriting.

  • Great voice. great songwriter. Tragic & strange ending to a life...just felt like stating the obvious....

  • Regarding Guitar Hero, I think it's great if more people get turned on to Elliott Smith because of it. And it's a fun game. Obviously it's cooler to play real instruments, but it's fun to put that idea into a game, and it can actually help with your rhythm and hand-eye coordination. So you can find out about great music from anywhere. Like this song :)

  • @jcgamer107 I for one fucking despise what Guitar Hero had done to music... Taking all this beautiful music, and turning it into a 13 yr olds playlist. They even have Samhain, on guitar hero Metallica.

  • @Worlock1989 Yeah wtf is wrong with them? Making good music accessible for more people? Guess what dude you didn't make the music you just heard it before some other people so stop acting like that somehow makes you better or entitles you to some sort of praise. I can't stand this "Me first!" hipster mentality.

  • @cogard1979 so true my friend..

  • @Worlock1989 "turning it into a 13 yr. olds playlist" What is wrong with 13 year olds? They deserve to listen to good music.

  • @jcgamer107 whatever kids play that crap with no intention of learning anything about music

  • @jcgamer107 I like your style ! More the better..

  • @jcgamer107 I heard this song in GH and thought it was incredible now I listen to Elliott all the time :)

  • I raped the "replay" buton with this song.

  • @CyberAlmey haven't we all

  • @CyberAlmey you could have gone on youtube repeat :P

  • @CyberAlmey It wanted it.

  • @CyberAlmey You said Rape and this Comment got EXACTLY 69 Likes

  • @MrKennyWilliams The cruel irony of the internet in its most virulent form, using the word rape on an Elliot Smith song...people really are clueless.

  • @Gnabepro And YOU take things WAYYYYYYYYYYYYY too fucking seriously.

  • @Looneveli they can judge the sounds for sure but what i mostly meant by that was that they can't understand the lyrics they take the words literally while they are much more symbolic. sure if some are poets themselves then they might but its not to often that you have a child poet its only an exception. still unless you can relate yourself its hard to see the meaning behind the words.

  • I never used to like Elliott Smith a lot, then while I was listening to Figure 8 (after listening to Either/Or and XO for a weekend constantly) I heard this and couldn't believe i'd played it on GH, I wish I'd noticed it more

  • I used to live in Elliott's old neighborhood, in Portland, OR. We went to the same bar--My Father's Place--frequently, although not together. Bought my 1st Elliott Smith record at Jackpot Records. Fucking amazing, inspirational man...

  • First off, Guitar Hero is fucking lame and if you found out an artist because of that game, I think that legitimately makes you a tool bag. Secondly, I'm pretty sure they didn't get Mr. Smith's permission to do this, since after all he is six feet under, let alone the fact he wouldn't sell out like some asshole would.

Oh yeah, why do you have to download music illegally to know who Elliot Smith is you fucking incompetent human being? Go back to playing guitar hero to some Metallica you toolbag.

  • @mgy1523 Yes finally someone who can think for themself i thought most of Elliotts listeners were GH fan boys. I totally agree its a market ploy for activision, and you didnt see his songs on their before he passed away. So in my eyes that means that they jumped the gun when they realized he couldn't oppose the idea. Exploitation by a bunch of douchebags who are solely after money.

  • @BitOveRate "I thought most of Elliott's listeners were GH fanboys"

    ...

Talking about guitar hero with regard to this song makes no sense anyway, when I played this song on guitar hero I wasn't a fan of Elliott Smith's music, and to me this song was really boring - when you play guitar hero you're too busy fiddling aroud with a peice of plastic to really appreciate the music, guitar hero doesn't really get people into music, it fools stupid people into a sense of accomplishment

  • @FromHalo2halo I concur my friend i think it's good for kids to play guitar hero... Rap is way too mainstream atm, kids don't get to experience any other type of music. If you mix good music into a video game it helps many children sample new types of music that they wouldn't have listened too prior to playing the game. I mean hell i witnessed it in real life... my little brother who mainly likes rap was singing aqua lung the other day. To me this is a direct correlation to him playing GH.

  • @ImThatGuy629 But that doesn't make him a fan of Jethro Tull, it just means the song stuck in his head. He won't feel any attatchment to the music like I would with Elliott Smith's music and if that's the case it doesn't matter what kind of music he's listening to. If you don't feel any strong emotion to a certain genre/artist, it doesn't matter if you listen to Lady Gaga or Eminem (I'm bad with 'popular' music, sorry), it won't have any kind of effect on the way you live your life

  • @FromHalo2halo I agree with ImThatGuy629. I think GH make people listenning new bands. I was a GH player and thanks to it, I discovered bands I'm actually listenning all day long. But most of the GH player don't go on the internet to listen more songs of the bands they played in GH, so there'll always be two or more kinds of person, the one wich will purchase their discovery of the artist and the other who just play GH and don't give a fuck about who they play. (Sorry for my English, I'm French)

  • @CyberAlmey I guess, I'm just drawing from personal experience, but I see where you're coming from

  • @FromHalo2halo Well ill played guitar hero before it has great songs that you heard before somewhere and you really like em but u dont know the name then someday you play gh and u are like OMG thats that song i have been searching or sometimes new songs u have never heard but well know im playing the real guitar and i now i come to hear better the song and then play it on my guitar :)

  • @mgy1523 im gonna tell you the flaw in your logic right here.

theres nothing wrong with finding an artist because of a game, or commercial, or by walking into a clothing store etc. not every artist is played on the radio, and now a days, the shit they play on the radio (ALL GENRE's) is pretty much bullshit compared to the earlier years and decades. tho i LOVE rock, and almost all genre's of music, i MOSTLY listen to Rap. but HEARING this songs is the most important part, doesn't matter where

  • @mgy1523 its not lame its cool! i bet u havent even played it in the 1st place go rant on another video.

  • No, his girlfriend stabbed him twice in the heart. I read the autopsy report that said he had defense wounds on his hands and on his side. He also had no hesitation wounds which would be typical of someone stabbing themself. Also, the note Elliott wrote didn't even have his name spelled right. And he had no illegal drugs or alcohol in his system. Look it up.

  • @ghostofchat77 His name was spelled correctly. The police report spelled his name wrong when they wrote it up.

  • elliott smith rocks but suicide sucks i don't know is just to sad i mean fack wht the hell!

  • @utarefsonmetushelac the world is a messed up place, man. I support his decision to leave the living since he felt so inclined, some people can't ignore its problems as well as the rest of us. I know that felt the same for longer than I would've liked.

  • @3rdmadfatter Suicide is a personal right IMO, but Smith has too much going on with his C.O.D. to say it was suicide.

  • @halifuckinfan Yeah, I know, I don't agree that it was suicide either, because of the self-defense marks, the fact that the knife is in his chest (who commits suicide by stabbing it in your chest? You're trying to avoid more pain by committing suicide, not generate more), ect. But I remember hearing that the police totally contaminated the evidence and crime scene, so we can't get back to it now, as far as we know..

  • @3rdmadfatter I'm not arguing with you I agree with everything you say but I talked to a psychologist (not mine just a friend) and she said that people actually do stab themselves in the chest. Very rare but it's symbolizing the broken heart. I'm not sure what really happened, just thought I'd share

  • @MickyL006 oedipus

  • @MickyL006 damn.. that'd be such an awful way to die.

  • @utarefsonmetushelac Do a little detective work and see if you agree with Suicide as the true C.O.D. first.

  • my fav from him and i have no idea why.

  • Why the fuck are people talking about Kurt Cobain on an Elliott Smith video?

  • @unschooled5 Both died by Suicide(?) Not by a clearly marked C.O.D. and deserve at least that.

  • My song of the moment :)

  • ELLIOT SMITH IS AWESOME DNT FIGHT OVER HIS VIDS U QWEERS

  • @superduperman71 spell his name correctly and maybe you'll have a valid point.

  • @superduperman71 uhhm you spell queer in this way... just sayin i think you are totally right dude ;)

  • Elliott Smith will forever be one of the greatest artists of all time!

  • This is legend song... prettiness =)

  • This is my first time listening to Elliott Smith.

    I like it a lot.

  • found this song in Guitar Hero 5 yesterday, i loved it immediately. i was sad when i read that he pwned himself, at least his music will still always be here.

    kudos.

  • I found this nice song in guitar hero 5!

  • Such the best summer tune of all time

  • last night i was about to throw it all away.

  • all i listen to at work

  • Shame such a beautiful soul was such a tortured one

  • The first Elliott Smith song I ever heard.

  • @residentemojacob me too, i guess. I don't know if i heard one when i was little.

  • i cant find it anywheree :(

  • i'm glad i got gh5. this song is amazing.

  • @oathkeeperblade Agreed

  • This song can never be played too loud. RIP ELLIOT!!! YOU WERE AND WILL ALWAYS BE RAD

  • I can sing this perfectly (I sing it aloud also)

I don't care who listens or who tells me if I'm a freak

I listen to this song every day <:P

  • Elliott Smith probably influenced Conor Oberst, but Oberst has nothing on Smith, since he came later, . . . technically. They're different styles and sounds; anybody could tell if they listened closely enough.

  • When I found out that Elliot Smith died, I had missed the ferry to get to my parents house. I picked up a copy of Blender off the newsstand. Brittany Spears was on the cover as well as the headline ''Tupac Shakur Resurrected!''. I picked it up more for the 2Pac headline. I opened the pages to read that a week had past since Elliot Smith died of a single stab wound to the chest...at that moment, I felt like it had happened to me. This song reminds me of that moment but it's beautiful...

  • this song is fucking great

  • Can someone PLEASE tell me where I can find a tab for this song? I cant find one and its driving me crazy!!

  • rock and roll

  • Comment removed

  • good sound!

  • lol this is like the only place on youtube where there arent only hardcore elliott smith fans haha

yeah but all the people talking about suicide? thats what this song is about...considering suicide then enjoing the beautiful day that came after

"living in the day...but last nite i was about to throw it all away"

  • @blacksuperbowl That's why he didn't kill himself. He was killed, Justice for Smith and Cobain!

  • @halifuckinfan

Well, considering the circumstances, there was a reasonable chance Elliott was killed, though I doubt it. When it comes to Kurt, he just killed himself dude.

  • @Slay318 Three times the lethal dose of heroin..before he was shot clean in the head? With a shotgun, that some assume he shot with his toes? Any of that sound a little crazy to be simple suicide to you?

  • @halifuckinfan So you think Courtney was laying on her stomach in the greenhouse to shoot him from below? What reasons would she have to do that? He could've very well fired the gun with his hands.

  • @Slay318 Do some heroin then try to get a shotgun out of a bag, after that level it clean. If you haven't slumped over reaching for the gun you're not doing three times the lethal dose. Did I ever mention Love?

Now let me flip this for a sec

Do you think Chiba was jumping out from nowhere attacking him with a knife? What reasons would she have to do that? He could've very well stabed himself with his own hands!

You know why that's bull, same holds for Kurt.

  • @halifuckinfan Because most people blame Courtney for the death of Kurt.

It certainly sounds more reasonable then Courtney or whatever killing Kurt in such a manner. They could've had an argument in the kitchen while she was holding a knife and in a moment of rage or desperation she stabbed him.

  • @Slay318 You don't understand the case on Cobain very well. Have you done any research on the matter? It isn't LOVE SHOT KURT at all. At least not in any such simple terms. Again I don't imply Love, I simply note the inconsistantcy in the case and suicide verdict.....and wish to have it re-opened AKA Justice for Kurt.

  • @halifuckinfan

I never said I did, I just assume that he killed himself as he was a very depressed person, and I don't really care whether he killed himself or was killed anyway. I know it's a complicated case though, as one of my friends is a rabid Kurt Cobain admirer as well. And you do know that there are a lot of people that said Courtney Love killed Kurt, I assumed that was what you were getting at.

  • @halifuckinfan You keep mentioning three time the lethal dose, when your not taking into consideration that he had been taking heroin for many years and had built up a tolerance, so he probably had just a normal heroin high. I doubt that he was so messed up that he couldn't kill himself. I also doubt that Courtney Love killed him, because she was in rehab at the time so she couldn't have done it herself and do you really think that Courtney wanted the father of her child to die?

  • @spacemeddle Have you ever seen anybody use heroin and not slump over? He was clean for two weeks...you lose tolerance in a days time. Lethal meens lethal. Three times lethal is dead. Never has there been a user who has survived such a large dose and yet scrawny Cobain did long enough to shoot himself with a perfectly leveled shotgun?

  • @halifuckinfan but after he had gotten out of rehab (and when I say gotten out I mean climbed over an 8 foot wall) he had a couple of days (close to a week) where he used heroin, before his suicide, and his tolerance of heroin didn't go away in two weeks. He may have taken such a large dose because he was planning on killing himself. He could of already had the shotgun ready to go, so that all he had to do was pull the trigger and lift the gun to his head, overall it sounds pretty plausible.

  • @spacemeddle Lift and level it perfectly, when found his brains weren't painted all over. He was found it was thought by the electrician sleeping. Note the inconsistancies in the original report. There was no chair blocking any doorway. His wallet was not out to ID himself, a cop took it out and opened it, for a picture. Kurt had alot to live for, he was divorcing Love and hopeing for custody of his daughter. Why do all of that just to premeditate a dual route suicide?

  • @spacemeddle Fame wasn't making Kurt miserable, in one of his last interviews he noted loving the "In Utero" tour. The "Suicide Note" writen by kurt was noted multiple times to have been a farewell to music before a TOTALLY different handwriting scrawled in anything connected to suicide. Why would he have SUCH a drive to kill himself? If he knew the dosage why not just die from the Heroin insted of leaving Francis with the image of shotgun suicide? RE-OPEN THE DAMN CASE!

  • @halifuckinfan I'm pretty sure there were 2 notes, the suicide note (which was definitely what appeared to be a suicide note) and then there was a second note which Courtney released into the open years later that was a goodbye to music. In a way fame was making him unhappy though, the reason he loved "In Utero" was because it was what he believed to be the sound that he wanted to create for a long time, I think he was happy with the music, but not the success or publicity.

  • @halifuckinfan And as far as Courtney goes, I never heard that they were filing for divorce or debating on custody, it kind of sounds far fetched seeing as how they agreed to both go to rehab and she hired a search team to look for him after he fled rehab.

  • @spacemeddle Tom Grant was the man, the only man, sent by Love to find Kurt. He has a website, and has been argueing for a re-opening of the Cobain case since it was labeled suicide. Educate yourself on the matter instead of going off hearsay. There was divorce more than discussed as Love wanted "The meanist uglyist divorce lawyer they could find" before Kurts death.

  • @halifuckinfan Ok well think what you wanna think man but it doesn't really matter because he's dead and he isn't coming back, there's really not much point in obsessing over it.

  • The harm is? The benefit, if correct about suicide not being the C.O.D. would be the clearing of the "sad sack depressed suicide case" everybody uses Cobain as a metaphor for. It isn't fair to his legacy as a human being.

  • @halifuckinfan Yes, but it happened 16 years ago, I don't think that many people are still depressed about his suicide (not saying there aren't people who are still sad but just not really any people who still think about it night and day). As far as his legacy has gone don't you think it's alright kinda been taken a shit on, seeing as how Guitar Hero 5 put his as a character where he can sing Bon Jovi. The only thing that isn't fair to his legacy is that people keep exploiting it.

  • @spacemeddle This has nothing to do with his fame however, if he were a man a read about in a local periodical he would still deserve better than a case closed "suicide(?)" ruleing. There shouldn't be so many unanswered questions.

  • @halifuckinfan Be that as it may, I'm sure they have looked into the suicide case, and thought about these exact same questions, but they decided not to go deeper into it, for whatever reason. So there's nothing we can really do because as long as they aren't looking into it no one is.

  • @spacemeddle That's the point in keeping his memory alive, and asking for Justice the way I did. I'm not the only one who wants a better answer. I feel both Smith and Cobain deserve better.

  • @halifuckinfan Interesting

  • If patience started a band, I'd be her biggest fan.

  • I heard that he suffered from pretty bad depression and that it might have caused his suicide

    he went too soon :(

  • No offense to anybody but is there any other reason for suicide?

  • political statement (martyrdom) is another reason

  • He got stabbed in the chest for fucks sakes how could he suicide??? read some biographies dude

  • you're a fool

  • Comment removed

  • wtf?!!?! elliot is on guitar hero?! thats nuts

  • It's funny to see people who think they know elliott.. listening to interviews it's apparent he didn't care if his music got on the radio, but he did say "i'd like to hear one of my songs on the radio".. all that mattered to him was making music, mind you he didn't really want to be famous, which he had most control over when he was alive.. He has moved on now and I think it's fitting for his music to reach every ear, even through a game like GH. Quit hogging all the elliott ass holes..

  • under the radar music should be kept under the radar.

  • @Soiyak thats fucking selfish. people deserve the oppurtunity to explore ES music. its up to them if they are able to appreciate it or not.

this goes for all music 'under the radar' imo

  • hey i played this song on guitar hero....nice song

  • Gh brings music to everybody, fans of the band or not. What matters where did you discovered it? if you like it it´s fine

  • @depascualito Indeed does not matter where you hear it first, you got to hear it somewhere. I was introduced to Eilliott Smith by loving "Needle in the Hay" on the Royal Tennenbaums.

  • I agree. I discovered this song on GH but you think that matters? It doesnt. Its no different than hearing it on the radio.

  • and what is wrong with GH?? At least it's not people discovering new music by downloading it illegally. If i was an artist, i wouldn't mind my song being on the game. Marketing. I think any exposure an artist can get-legally-can't be a bad thing!! God just enjoy his music!!

  • Only reason anybody got licensing for it was because he was too dead to say no. Guy wasn't too keen on getting famous.

  • @KimJongSick don't confuse someone not coveting fame with how much they want their music to be heard.
