I understand that for you it is hard to see something else than just law. Sounds too legalist and too calvinist. I am talking about trying understand why people take some decisions before judging them. Bruna is dead. She can't talk. In my job I try understand why many women let their partners abuse them, and always refering to them like they are right to do that. 60% of them refuse to press charges and they would like to change their lifes without deal with the situation that hurt them a lot.

Of course it matters, because you don't have full custody of your child... Let's say you are a father, you can't take the child to Zimbabwe and leave the mother behind. And force the mother to go to Zimbabwe to fight for the child in their court system. You can't force a Brazilian to be subject to Zimbabwean law. How about countries that are biased towards fathers? If you're a father and take a child to a Muslim country, they'll give you the custody. Does it look fair to you?

We have never had anything close to that. The closest thing was the Spanish Fever. A hundred years ago. Killed about 10% of all people.

Cancers in the US are on the rise, but the mortality is decreasing. 300 cases per 10,000 people in 1971, 400 cases per 10,000 in 2007, but 220 deaths per 10,000 in 71 to 175 deaths per 10,000 in 2007. My graphics don't show the European incidence, but the mortality is the same as the American: decreasing.
I'll tell you what is really increasing continuously: awareness. I remember how 20 years ago we simply didn't talk much about cancer and violence.

You don't need to rely solely on fiction to get comfort though. Think that death is not much different from sleeping. When we sleep and in between dreams we cease to exist. It's just this big hole in our memory, when we wake up the next day. Same thing with death, but with no waking up.
Think too that for the last hundreds of thousands of years, our individual deaths hasn't been the end of the story. There has always been children carrying it on.

People have been seeing these things coming to pass for the last 2000 years. What are the Bible's prediction? Chaos? How about the Byzantine Empire, in the year 700, losing HALF of their people to the Black Death? They were Christians. They certainly saw it as the end of times ongoing. 1300 years ago. So, my prediction is that in the year 3300 there will still be people seeing signs from Revelations. Like... earthquakes, plagues, societal decay... We'll probably always have those.
