Look at the tape on the nose of Guerrero's car. That's holding on a nosecone that was knocked off when he hit a tire, which caused clutch fluid to leak out. His clutch was screwed.
I'm not familiar with the mechanical workings of a clutch pedal on an 87C, but logic tells me that if the fluid that lets a system work leaks out, then that thing's not going to work anymore.
Roberto was gonna have a tough time getting out of the pits no matter how short his stop was- his cluch was crippled after he struck that tire ealier on. All the fluid in the clutch master cylinder had leaked out.
My favorite part of this clip: the noise the crowd makes. First the eerie high-pitched scream as Unser closes on Guererro, then the roar as he goes past. Since they eliminated the turbochargers in 1997, the cars are so loud that you can't hear the crowd noise on Tv. Too bad.

They're bringing back Turbos in 2-3 years, plus the engines have a new silencer thing that reduced the noise significantly.
