I fly the cirrus and according to the POH which I have in my hands right now. headwind correction is 10% for each 12 knots. V2 is 89kn, we rotate at 67 or earlier for shortfield. Seeing as there is snow on the ground the ground roll would be 1159 ft with 12knt headwind. This was clearly shorter so there was definetly a hell of a headwind.
@elmataplata birds seem to be flying normally and the jackets aren't flailing around wildly and there is some wind on the Mic but not enough to block out sound which would happen in High wind.
This video demonstrates how long it takes a very powerful airplane to take off. Compare that to the few feet it takes a bush plane like a supercub and you get an idea of how amazing the bush planes are.
So many people think the Cubs got off because of a strong headwind. Well, here's the same wind, and it didn't exactly turn a Cirrus into a helicopter.
Clearly. Each aircraft as it's purpose. Personally, give me the Cirrus any day. Of course, I don't live in Alaska where I would need the stol capability of the bush panes.
I guess it's like being a boxer. You don't eat the day before and work out like crazy in the morning to lose a few more pounds so you get the lightest weight. Off goes your watch and everything.
That is very short for a Cirrus.

have to say, that was still pretty short for a cirrus....

Funny how the cubs almost fly vertical and the cirrus just plows past the marker

@elmataplata
those are at 3000lb to weight. at 2500 it would be 813 with no wind. at 36knt headwind it should be 570. 489ft at 48knot headwind.
elmataplata 2 years ago
v2, yes, you would not wanna lose that other engine on the cirus

I flew from this airport to Anchorage on a tiny turbo prop. Alaska is very impressive from the air.

Exactly! Thanks for pointing that out.

bush planes are bush planes. If im traveling or flying more than a half hour i'd rather be in a cirrus

cirrus cant really compete with all those modified bush planes
jeremyc311709 3 years ago
Really? What makes you think that??
snipey852 2 years ago
Well those bush planes are really light with a lot of horse power, the cirrus is most likely heavier with less horsepower
jeremyc311709 2 years ago
well... sometimes theyll have lots of poer, but a Cub has maybe 65 HP.
the1bigace 2 years ago
put a couple extra ponies in the engine and you got a bush plane

Sounds like a Conti IO-550 so my guess would be A SR-22
The SR-20 came equipped with A Continental IO-360
