The US government&the media should question Jimmy Carter&the members of his criminal administration about their active role in the overthrow of the pro-western Shah of Iran in1979&ask why Carter sold Iran to the anti-US crazed Mullahs?but offcourse the wouldn't break this biggest taboo subject since WW2.Please visit my UTUBE channel, google&UTUBE search on Dr. Mike Evans book on JIMMY CARTER exposing his criminality which has resulted in war deathtorture destruction&suffering in Iran since1979.
mccain is a socialist also, he has lived off of the american taxpayer for years and he had the nerve to actully critize obama for not leaving his campaign to go vote for tarp!!
First of all Reagan is the worst president of all time. Reagan raised the taxes for the poor, lowered them for the rich, destroyed the manufacturing industry, destroyed unions, and made it easier for jobs to be exported over seas. You know why the republicans want him on a dollar bill? Because he made them rich! Yet people actually believe the lie that he was the best president ever! Ha! You actually believe that crap?
@jrhd00d84 Ray-gun was senile and the supreme butt-licker of the rich. He destroyed the broadcast industry, allowing radio and TV fat slut owners to own as many stations as they want in a market. This killed all the mom & pop radio stations because the fat cat sluts quickly bought out all the available frequencies. One of the biggest fat cats was Minnesota Public Radio under Bill Kling. I saw an application that had 18 broadcast and translator stations in ONE application. This is greed.
@Glinkaism1 wow! Thanks for the info. Like that at the beginning. I know mainstream media is pretty corrupt. Have you seen the video where MSNBC says that 9/11 conspiracy theorist should be in special prisons?
Jimmy carter is a more peaceful man than McCain will ever be, he is a complete gentleman, and wasn't that much of a bad president. Yes what carter said was wrong, but McCain cant say shit about bad presidents, he was the one who campaigned for George W. Bush, the real worst president .
Carter is one of the worst presidents of the 20th century, but I believe that Woodrow Wilson has done a lot more harm in the long run to our country by starting the Federal Reserve and being negotiating a peace treaty that ultimately led to Word War 2.
I can tell by your masterful vocabulary you would be a much more successful president than Carter ever was. Please.....give me your real name so I can write it in the ballot at the next presidential election.
@BoredGuyWithCamera From What I heard Wilson didn't want Europe to make Germany pay for reparations(not sure if fact or fiction). If you want to talk about bad presidents of the 20th century, one mustn't forget Warren G. Harding.
The Dept. of Energy and the Dept. of Education only creating more bureaucracy and not performing a valuable function is only a matter of opinion. During the transition from Carter to Reagan, our unemployment was actually at 7.5%. It hit 10.8% during the Reagan years (Nov/1982). Our inflation hit the double digits in 1974, long before Carter became President. Carter did accomplish many good things. To simply call this presidency a failure is an emotionally charged attack devoid of facts.
And what has the Department of Energy or the Department of Education accomplished for the US? Nothing but more bureaucracy.
When Carter left office, he had such a poor foreign policy that leftist dictators like Ortega came to power and oppressed their people with no repercussions. The Soviets laughed at our indecision on virtually every issue. Our unemployment hit 10% and inflation was well into double digits as well. Iran fell to extremists because he wouldn't back the Shah.
Former President Jimmy Carter won the Nobel Peace Prize in 2002 and has been the only U.S. President to have received the prize after leaving office. During his term as President, he created the Department of Energy and the Department of Education. He also negotiated a peace treaty between Israel and Egypt in 1979. Former President Carter WAS and IS a remarkable human being and was an excellent President. So far McCain has accomplished.....???
@wondr7 Department of Education and Department of Energy are practically useless. Just more government control. Nobel peace Prize really means nothing anymore. Obama got it and what has he done to promote peace? Oh yea thats right, he broke a promise by not pulling troops out of Iraq and he also sent more troops into Afghanistan. Wish I could change my vote.
Department of Education and Department of Energy are practically useless. Just more government control. Nobel peace Prize really means nothing anymore.
I can appreciate you have an opinion- but haven't you overexaggerated by stating the Dept. of Energy and Education are practically useless? And the Nobel Peace Prize meaning nothing anymore? That the Nobel Peace Prize even exists brings hope to all of mankind.
@Dimitritheechidna1 isnt it funny though, in his first term, there was a conservative congress and in his second term it was balanced at first and then swung left........... Congress is where you have to look.
wow saying that the president who created the department of energy and education is the worst in history is such an ungrateful thing to say. If anything I say John McCain is the worst crook in history, taking part in the keating 5, lying about his campaign by saying he supported clean energy but voted against environmental regulation in favor of big oil, and being the douchebag bigot that he is.
All I have to say to McCain is, well, he's kinda right about being one of the worst Presidents we've had in the 20th century, but at least he made it to the White House.
Life experience, you say? Under Obama I have two part time jobs I didn't have under Bush. Under Obama my stock portfolio increased, under Bush it decreased. You seem to forget that this terrible economic situation started under Bush.
And as far as political scandals, scooter libby, political firing of United States Atty's. There were more Tsars under Bush than Obama. I read about Acorn adn Van Jones on CNN and HUFFington Post!
Turn off the fox news and the paranoia and fear will go away.
They (republicans) don't forget that Bush wrecked the economy - they want everyone else to forget by blaming Obama. It's like blaming Carter for the late 70's stagflation that Nixon started and Ford made much worse.
applepie, you're being completely naive and delusional if you think the current administration (whichever one it is) controls your stock portfolio. stocks are a reflection of the market, which is in turn a reflection (somewhat) of the economy. the strength of the economy is determined by which 'levers' were pulled 4-8 yrs ago. just watch what happens (regarless of who's president) ove the next 3-7 years. we're FUCKED!! you can easily disagree, only time will tell that i'm right about this.
The facts are that the housing crash was a result of Clinton's fair housing act which forced banks to give credit to high risk individuals. Obama has already tripled the national debt from when Bush left office. And Jimmy Carter...how could anyone defend him????
Jimmy Carter gave a speech on energy in the 1970s and he was RIGHT. If people had listened to him instead of Reagan the twin towers would still be standing, no war with Iraq. Reagan raised taxes more than any other peace time President...lets put them back there and shut you fucking babies UP!
Stop smoking that crack, twit. Reagan raised taxes?? wtf are you on? Twin Towers would still be up? That alone would get you bitch slapped anywhere but underneath some rock
I have news for you Livelovebe1970, Reagan LOWERED taxes like many republican presidents have done. You seem to be like many Liberals. You base your views on emotion rather than calm logic. You also seem to make up so called "facts" hoping they will fly or go unquestioned, just so you can build your argument. You think Carter giving a speech makes him a good president? There is more to being a good president than good speeches which we are all finding out with Obama.
Carter put solar panles on the WH and preached clean energy although it was for economic reasons and not environmental. Reagan took then down and laughed. Denmark beneffited from Reagan back then while we chaseoil all over the middle east with wars and now Denmark is a world powerhouse in renewable energy and does not NEED OIL and it costs us BILLIONS with POLLUTION..Reagan raised taxes 7 times...sorry you are an fucking IDIOT!
I guess you just proved my point by getting all emotional and calling me a fucking idiot. I noticed you created some more so called "facts". What is your source? Reagan took down Carters solar panels? Where is your proof? All nonsense. Are you a young student or maybe you work for ACORN. I mean you are really out there.
In 1976 the Danish public got behind an ambitious (and expensive) program to become entirely energy-independent, and, with the development of new, clean energy systems, to get out of the foreign oil business completely. So did Carter...but Reagan laughed and stopped it. The Danish are now a renewable energy powerhouse and do not rely on foreign oil at ALL after being 99% dependant on it. Carter was RIGHT...lets go fight a war....stupid Republicans!
Do you even know how effective solar panels were in 1979. They were a joke! I am all for renewable energy if it can be cost effective and actually work.
Are you that stupid? His solar panels are actually still in use today. Congrats on proving you are a dumbass who never researches issues. The United States lags behind so many other countries because of too many losers like YOU.....Congrats....fucking idiot.
HIS solar panels? Did Carter invent solar panels? Is that what you are implying? You are not a very bright person. I'm a loser? My guess is that you are unemployed and waiting for the government to take care of you like so many other liberals. Don't worry Obama has your back with my tax dollars. Shouting louder doesn't make your stupid arguments any more correct. Carter was the worst president. A speech or putting a solar panel on the white house does not change that. You need to grow up.
His speech on energy...go do some actual research on the issues. Oh..my family owns a company. See...you are a FUCKING IDIOT on many things.....Red States are the WELFARE STATES ANYWAY DUMBFUCK
You are pathedic. NY (blue state) is a big welfare state with one of the highest taxes per capita in the country. I would have to guess that you are a lonely person, probably bitter over never having a date to the prom, probably divorced or never married. I'm sure you will reply that I'm wrong but I doubt I am. Try learning to have a discussion without using emotion and blowing up when someone disagrees with you. Typical liberal nut job.
are you just spouting shit or are you a patholigical lier, the netherlands, who have used wind power for hundreds of years have dismantled the wind turbines because they used more energy than they created.carter was then worst pres of the 20th century and maybe in the history of the republic.you would think he might of gotten something right by accident, but he didn't and still hasn't.WAKE UP IDIOLOGUE. REGISTERED DEMOCRAT
Denmark just opened the largest windfarm in history this week you fool. Still all of you are so fucking STUPID that you dont even get it. Carter was President YEARS ago...ALL THOSE BILLIONS AND BILLIONS OVER 30 years could have been invested in technology you FUCKING IDIOTS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Reagan raised taxes 7 times and still turned America into a debtor nation. Thank Reagan for things like the most savings and loan scandals, Farm Aid, 16% home interest rates...GOOD TIMES!
Don't forget the corrupt Fannie Mae/Freddie Mac, whose accounting trickery would have landed any other corporate heads in jail--instead of getting 90 million in bonuses. And the frantic efforts of the likes of Dodd, Frank, and Obama to put a halt to the sub-prime bubble.
Jimmuh--the worst president in the 20th century. And now his presidency is looking pretty good compared to Obama's
Former President Carter is a true statesman. He is hailed world wide as a man of peace ,& integrity.I would not trust the "admiral's son" ,manchurian candidate, born in the panama zone, Known as mcnasty Sen. sidney to fall off a ladder.
My point is, is that because of such vast contradictions that exist in religious text, this leaves a lot of room for fanatics to justify their actions. Whether it be slave owners, or jihadist terrorists, pretty much any action can be justified by reading religious text.
Our ethical standards should not be left to the interpretation of a religious book that was written during the bronze age.
Carter was the last real Patriotic American to be President of the United States. The fact that a traitor like McCain thinks he is the worst US president of the 20th Century is proof positive of the opposite. McCain is a viagra popping has been who has not done one millionth the good for the world that Carter has, McCain is not worthy of carry Carters shoes much less criticizing him. Jimmy Carter is the last Honest American to occupy the White House. God Bless Jimmy Carter.
Carter was refused a security detail from Israel when he went to Gaza. He went anyway and was warmly greeted. He is highly respected around the world something the right wing mind sees as a threat because of their fear of other people of the world. Viva Moroc.
when you look at Hoover, and Tyler your not really talking modern day, but worse than Nixon, yes. Carter was a disgrace and he was a one term president because the American decided the same.
A disgrace? The man served his country for his entire life. From serving in the Navy, to serving as a state senator, to the governor of Georgia, and finally being elected by the majority of American people to serve as president. The man tried to lead the country, and failed. However, this alone, does not make him the worst president in history. I mean bush2 is on that list because he lied. If he didn't lie, he is guilty of spreading a lie. And it has cost us greatly as a nation.
It's bad enough when you try to defend Carter, but when you start with the Bush lied stuff, you reduce yourself to a nutty liberal and that is where it's not worth my time. You can't talk to someone like that.
you can't talk to somebody who first labels you a "nutty liberal", insults a veteran of the army by calling him "disgraceful", and then completely neglects to provide any substance..
secondly, it is possible, that bush did not know that george tenet was lying when he said "SLAM DUNK" about WMD's in Iraq. I mean, this was a lie. "slam dunk" means for sure. he wasn't sure, obviously. But, bush took us to war based on this. It has cost us greatly.
Carter warned us about the dependence on oil. That the mission to free the hostages failed was not his fault. The military learned a valuable lesson from that mission and was thus ready for the first gulf war. Most of those that throw stones wave the flag never put themselves in harms way and are thus cowards.
Much like bush, who was in the national guard, had never seen war or death, becomes president and entangles the country in a pointless war. My good friend died in Iraq, serving a president who is much like the person you describe. He joined the military to protect the country after 9/11. He died in vane.
It doesn't matter what McCain is - or is not. It doesn't make Carter somehow more virtuous. All of Carter's major biographer's have documented Carter's life long racism, antisemitism and collectivist leanings. This is why Ahmadinejad, the Hitler of our time, loves Jimmy Carter. But liberalism comes first with liberals, so they ignore and excuse the damage Carter has done to the Middle East and to America, and they share the hatred of Israel.
Yeah, thats why Obama and the evil liberals received the majority of the Jewish votes last November...
Now, your argument couldn't possibly be that all of these Jews are evil liberals in disguise? That would either make you anti-semitic, or a flaming partisan hack.... Which is it?
I don't know how you pulled that out of my posts, but -What is your point? Most Americans voted for Obama, that's how he was elected. That doesn't make voters 'evil'. Many Jews in the US, except orthodox, are liberal, and are anti-Israel to boot. Even though Palestinians would gladly kill them anyway. Liberalism comes first with liberals, and liberals always defend dictatorships & banana republics over powerful Democracies like Israel & the US. A major reason why liberalism is a mental disorder.
excuse the ad hominem, but you are fucking retarded.
I'm Jewish, I prefer secularism, and I am pro-Zionism. You do not know anything about the Jews in this country, or anywhere in the world for that matter. This is obvious. Yet, you speak as if you are the hero of the Jews. You know nothing about Jewish safety, or the human rights issues that are being violated by Israeli government.. These issues are way over your head, so please, stop. your words are offensive.
"Hero of the Jews" huh? - ok. Again, this is all in your head. So, you speak for all Jews then? If you are Jewish, and Pro-Israel, then you should be pretty pissed at Jimmy Carter. But you weren't even alive during his presidency let alone know anything about him. He is responsible for deposing the Shah of Iran in favor of madman Ayatollah Khomeini which ushered in a dominant era of Shariah law and caused the deaths of thousands. Now he's trying it again in N.Korea. The man is a monster.
It is factually incorrect to say that Carter is responsible for Mohammed Reza Pahlevi's deposition. The people of Iran wanted him to be deposed. In fact, "news of the Shah's departure was greeted with mass celebrations across Iran"-BBC. If anything, Carter supported the will of the people. You seem to support right wing propaganda. Sean Hannity ver batim. its practically plagiarism.
I'm sure they did celebrate - they wanted a theocracy, not a democracy. Unfortunately it threatened the rest of the world. Carter was OUR President and he put us, and Israel in jeopardy we still live with today. The threat of nuclear annihilation still looms over Israel. The will of the what kind of people -Jew hating,America hating maniacs who murder all who oppose them? Hannity? huh? You're only interested in hating conservatives, so you'll even defend a vehement anti-Semite; liberalism first.
You still haven't explained how Carter put Isreal in "jeopardy".
Carter has only sought to bring both sides to the table. People like you only listen to one side, which causes the other side to resort to violence as the only way to be heard.
It is because of people like you that we see this violence not only in Israel, but in the US as we all experienced on 9/11.
You don't know how a Country run by Islamo-fascists whose Holy Book says that Jews are Demons threatens Israel? You haven't seen the atrocities committed in the name of Islam? Do you know who Golda Meir is? Have you heard Netanyahu speak? You haven't seen the terrorist attacks in the US & Europe? Yeah, we should've trusted Hitler to be civil too; we gave him a decade, but apparently he wasn't interested. You really believe that Madmen give a shit about peace & non-violence?
YES. I am aware of religion. And I am aware that there are verses in the Bible that clearly condone slavery. In particular within the book Leviticus. And these same verses were used to justify 400 years of American slavery.
However, the majority of the world is considered "Christian", and claim to abide by the Bible. And, most Christians would tell you they are against slavery.
You're really off track now.And you avoided every single question I posed. The Bible doesn't say that Blacks are demons, it says 'Servants, obey your masters' - which is NOT an endorsement of slavery, but was used as such by slave owners. They were acting against the Bible, not for it.The Qur'an literally says to kill all infidels. 'Behead them where you meet them'.What about slavery in the rest of the world?Even today in Darfur slavery is encouraged by the Sudanese government. Care about that?
haypenny, people like you believe in the apocalypse. You believe that mankind will inevitably fail. This is very relevant to what we are talking about.
I understand what you expect to see. And, there is nothing I can say to you that you would change your outlook however. You are truly shackled by convention. I honestly feel sorry for you..
Okay kid. Whatever you say. Maybe when you're done with your bigoted, self righteous, erroneous assumptions about "People like Me" and what you think I believe, you'll take the time to learn a bit about history, human nature, and life. A peaceful Rosh Hashanah and upcoming Yom Kippur to you.
well thank you haypenny sir. the last time I bragged about being older than someone I was in grade school.. It is really hard to believe that you're an adult. but anyways, take care.
That's - haypenny Madam. And I see there are many things you find hard to believe. But, keep debating, and keep learning - I mean that honey - I'm not trying to be condescending. Goodnight.
Yes, people did protest the Iraq war. I mean hell - we invaded the wrong country because our "intelligence" was wrong ? Yes the Vietnam war was protested. That one cost us over 58,000 dead for what ? This protest over health care has a sinister face on it that we have not seen before. Government control health care ? Hey, if we are going to sweep the floor, lets sweep the whole floor and not just a corner of it. Do away with Medicare (social healthcare) and social security (social welfare).
this is moral hazard, No different than some of the great crimes committed by religion or wars. Just fix the problem of acting the way you want by changing or abusing the rules. No different than the Roman church corruption or the Kings change the rules and create there own religion... The first amendment is something the main stream press should be threaten by the government and it is not.... Gosh highest % of people in prison? Moral Hazard. Race baiting like terrorism is a tactic.
... And then this crap about the surge? McCain is a member of this Military Industrial complex that has brought great destruction on this great country. As a member of the FCC we have a Goebbels media cartel, not reporting the truth about McInsane or Barry. Goebbels said Think of the press as a great keyboard on which the government can play. War on drugs ( legal economic profiteering on chemically dependent) , Banking usury criminals, sanctions (siege) Expanding democracy (colonialism)
McCain is a criminal. He has profited on the military conflicts caused by Criminals actions and lies on the Gulf of Tolkin, covered up the USS Liberty with his dad, and because of his reckless behavior on USS Forrestal may have killed 167 sailors. His prison terms were used as political weapons. Poor Johny suffered but quickly came back by divorcing his wife to marry ATF created Bud distributor. Wasn't enough was one of the culprits in the 1.4 T dollar S&L swindle as part of the Keating 5.
it shows how much the old compromiser knows. barack the magic negro has already made jumpin' jimmy look like george washington and abe lincoln rolled into one.
The dumbing DOWN of the modern conservative movement . . . Buckley Goldwater Nixon's Southern Strategy Reagan (TALK) Limbaugh (MORE talk) Fox News Bush/Cheney Palin Beck And 90+% of these DIMWITS continue to ask "What would Reagan/Limbaugh do?" This is NOT the party of Lincoln, that's for sure.
Hey McCrude! Too bad you didn't say shiat like this during the presidential election with BO or BS (whoever he is) You might have pulled out a victory instead. However it is easier for you to criticize as a lame duck Senator (oh sorry you are a suppose called maverick) than it is to talk like this on the campaign trail. No wonder folks ran and hid from you, you are a looser with a big L! Oh btw, we already knew the peanut farmer was the worst president of all time now he has a challenger in BO!
Oh, good grief. IF George W. Bush actually planned 9/11, and IF GWB intentionally sent Katrina into New Orleans, and IF GWB sold the entire country to Haliburton for $5, Jimmy Carter would STILL be the worst President in American history.
My guess is most of the commenters aren't old enough to remember what a complete and utter disaster that old fool was and is.
Hey, idiot, what about George Bush? He started a war under false pretenses. How many people will die because of that? His administration also covered up the outing of a CIA agent. His father, in an unrelated thread, called this treason. Then Bush effectively pardons the man that lies and makes it impossible to convict anyone of this crime. And you say Carter was bad? Take your lips off the crack pipe.
"Jimmy Carter has made an outrageous, unfounded and potentially inflammatory remark about race Americans have profound fears about central government taking power away from individual citizens and those fears are legitimized by the Constitution. They have every right to express them without being smeared as 'racists'."
Like Carter, Obama is playing the please everyone game to get re-elected instead of doing what he knows to be right.
Firing Van Jones because Glenn Beck told him to? Not very presidential. Abandoning his pastor because republicans didn't like what he said--that is really lame.
And like Carter, Obama is pleasing no one, guaranteeing he will also be a one-term president.
and clinton DID keep us safe from islamic terrorism in the homeland. There were no islamic terrorist attacks on U.S. soil after 1993. And Clinton warned Bush team if the grave dangers if Al Queda in late 2000/early 2001 and they did nothing. Their first meeting on Al Queda was 9/10/01. And Bush ignored explicit warnings given a month before that Osama was "determined to attak in the U.S." He went on vacation. 3000 + Americans died as a result of Bush incompetence. End of story.
obama looks like he wants to go for the title. I am talking about the white part of obama being a lying douche bag. the black side of him is doing a great job. dont want to be considered a racist
never cared much 4 Mccain but he got this one right. Carter is bitter and he still cant get over losing 2 Reagan years ago and he still doesnt get it. Carter should just go be a nice old man and go write more books about fishing and leave the thinking 2 someone else. Everytime he open his big mouth he prove how fucking dumb he is and its hard 2 believe this man wuz ever voted president. He need 2 go write more books thats the only successful thing he ever done.
McCain was right. We all payed the price when Carter left office. Morgage interest rates went to 22%, gas prices skyrocketed, we had inflation, he expanded welfare. His community reinvestment act and Fannie and Freddie gave welfare recipients middle class neighborhood home loans no money down and low payments. ( sound familair) In the end the Gov. owned these homes and sold them for pennies on the dollar to what they paid to rehabers. Taxpayers lost billions.
"Must be nice to take the easy way out and dump on George W. Bush who kept ths country safe after 9/11." Yeah he kept us safe, except for on 9/11, which was on his watch! If you are gonna use the "he kept us safe after a terroist attack" line then you must also credit Clinton, who kept the homeland safe for seven years after the first attack on the World Trade Center in 1993. The difference of course being Clinton caught the bastard who committed that attack. He is in jail. Osama is not.
kholbar towers, usscole,ok city, turning down custody of osama from the sudan.the bombing of 2 american ebassies in africa.yeah that clinton really kept us safe
haha sour grapes McCain? You lost because you lied to the people on the campaign trail and said the economy was "strong." Now you are a presidential historian? Google "worst presidents in U.S. history" and you'll find Carter is nowhere near the bottom of the list. He's not at the top, either, but to say that he was the worst in history is just revisionist and tawdry. Carter is a hero that the GOP has been fixated on taking down because he lives the word of God, GOP just talks about God.
Inflation sucked in the 70's and early 80's, but on the world stage, Bush made Jimmy Carter look like Winston Churchill. It will take many years (perhaps decades) to clean up Bush's mess.
I will have to agree that Carter was a weak president and a lot of family farms were lost during his term. He wasn't much of a leader that is for sure. But, I do think he is right on this one. I don't think most of the town hall meetings represent the majority of the people. There is just a lot of people now and probaly forever that just cannot accept a black president. Call it what you may, but this is the real underlining reason. I hear it every day and this hatred is like a cancer.
If a white president was going to implement a radical overhaul of the health system, where some congressmen have uttered that the public option was just a vehicle for complete government owned healthcare, we'd probably be seeing the same crowds. In fact, don't you think the opposition to Obama's healthcare reform looks a bit like the opposition to Bush's Iraq war policy? Those who discount opposition as racism should look themselves in the mirror and ask who's racist.
The eternally ridiculous Carter's latest outrage is to slander the majority of the American people, tens of millions of hard working and fair minded people, as racists. The vast majority of this tidal wave of opposition to President Obama exists because people profoundly disagree with his policies. Race is irrelevant. Massive government growth and power over individual liberty and sprinting away from the Constitution IS relevant. The left is playing the race card as was predicted by so many.
I couldn't stand Carter, still can't. But I never thought for a moment that he was actively working against the best interests of the US on purpose. Misguided, perhaps. Incompetent, absolutely.
But Obama is making Jimmy look better and better. If only Jimmy would stop talking, he might move down to the number two spot.
Well put John Mccain. Now my generation has to deal with Irans leadership thanks to Jimmy Carter. On a side note The Iranians are getting quite fed up with the mullahs B.S.Soon the Iranians will be coming for all of them and removing them from power.I can sense it.
There is no doubt that Carter is being an idiot, but calling him the worst president in history or even the 20th century is crazy. Carter had good energy policies, leveled with the American public (his best attribute), negotiated a long term peace between Egypt and Israel and appointed Volker when he really didn't want to, who turned out to be the best fed chairman probably ever, who ended the inflation and laid the foundation for the middle 80's growth.
I guess the problem in 72 was his fault too? Peak oil in the US in 1970 was his fault too? Carter created the DOE which may or may not have helped, but he created long term oil reduction strategies which did help, especially in the mid 80's. Oil use was plummeting while the economy was soaring. Of course, Reagan's abysmal energy policies started to take effect and oil usage soared toward the end of the 80's. Long term energy policies take time and that is why they showed up in the Reagan admin.
I'm a conservative and no fan of the Democrats, but if you can't give Carter credit for anything else, give him credit that he told Americans the truth. Nobody in modern politics will tell America the truth because they saw what we did to Carter. Inflation was out of control during Clinton and Bush, but they just lied about it. Oil peaked 4 years ago and no politician will talk about it. Carter said "we can't keep importing more and more oil. We need alternatives and conservation" paraphrasing,
Carter was the worse! Ask anyone that had to live through that time. It was terrible . He created so much economic hardship for so many folks. We lived on pancake mix for a month till I swallowed my pride and got food stamps. Sitting in a room with 60 souls and being told we had no job anymore. I can still hear the sobbing of some of the people. 18% interest rates on homes. I still remember the split screen Reagan getting swore in and the Iran hostages being released. Now that was a great day!
I was also a boy during that time and things weren't bad in my house. My father grew up during the depression and things were good in his house during that time. The high interest rates and inflation was not caused by Carter, it was caused by all the inflationary spending in the 60's and early 70's (moon, great society, Vietnam..) and then made worse by Nixon closing the gold window. High interest rates, as painful as the were, saved the dollar and the economy.
I am glad things were fine in your house. Since my job counted on homes being built. The interest rates put the whole thing on its back. Carter was never empathetic to our situation. His poor leadership and lack of foreign policy magnified the problems. Never have I been so poor in my life it was a humbling experience. Obama could take us all back to that spot. It made an impression on me that I will never forget. Who would have thought a peanut farmer could cause such misery.
To be honest, I don't know much about his foreign policy other than the fact that he facilitated a more or less permanent peace between Egypt and Israel, a feat nobody else has been able to do (help negotiate peace between Israel and an enemy of Israel).
I fear you are very right about Obama/Bernanke. They are making Bush/Greenspan look like amateurs. The dollar is dropping like a stone and they keep printing. $2T deficits and they want a big health care bill?
I hope I am wrong about Obama and the Fed too. I see a pattern of what happened in the 70's. Carter let Iran fall to the Ayatollahs. Who knows how many Persian,Chaldean and Jews lost their life and property to the take over by Islamic radicals. When the Shah fled Iran that was the end of stability for Iran. Women, Gays, Christians, and Jews now must live in fear in Iran. Thank you Pres. Carter
iris you do realize that under Reagan employment was a full 3% higher than under Carter? (7.8 for carter in July 1980 and 10.8 for reagan in November of 1982)
applepie I lived through the Carter years.I didn't take some class in college and be a useful idiot for a professor. That spouts how awful Ronald Regan was. I remember the despair and lost dreams for so many families that never recovered. It was one of the best days of my life when Ronald Reagan was swore in. I wasn't even a Republican. Two weeks after he took office we went back to work. Just like those hostages we were finally free. Good riddance to Carter.
Do you really think your experience, and those of a few families you knew is a good gauge of how good a president was historically? You may have done well under Reagan but more than 1 in 10 were unemployed.
Oh and that thing about idiot professors preaching against conservs is a tired cliche, I think you did better when you called me a retarded drug addict.
Wow, dumbass. In some states right now, 1 in 8 are unemployed. And that's just the people who are still looking. The real unemployment rate (the population who would take a job if one was offered to them, but have currently given up) is closer to 25%. The per capita income growth rate has completely stagnated. I don't give a shit about your politics, but you are provably wrong if you try to claim the economy was worse under Reagan.
I fear we can't wait until 2012 to get BOBO out of office. We need to find grounds to impeach him. We have to get more control of the house and senate in 2010. If we can do that at least he will have a harder time pushing thru his agenda. JMO

The Dept. of Energy and the Dept. of Education only creating more bureaucracy and not performing a valuable function is only a matter of opinion. During the transition from Carter to Reagan, our unemployment was actually at 7.5%. It hit 10.8% during the Reagan years (Nov/1982). Our inflation hit the double digits in 1974, long before Carter became President. Carter did accomplish many good things. To simply call this presidency a failure is an emotionally charged attack devoid of facts.
wondr7 2 years ago
And what has the Department of Energy or the Department of Education accomplished for the US? Nothing but more bureaucracy.
When Carter left office, he had such a poor foreign policy that leftist dictators like Ortega came to power and oppressed their people with no repercussions. The Soviets laughed at our indecision on virtually every issue. Our unemployment hit 10% and inflation was well into double digits as well. Iran fell to extremists because he wouldn't back the Shah.
I'm out of room.

So far McCain has accomplished.....???
wondr7 2 years ago
@wondr7 Department of Education and Department of Energy are practically useless. Just more government control. Nobel peace Prize really means nothing anymore. Obama got it and what has he done to promote peace? Oh yea thats right, he broke a promise by not pulling troops out of Iraq and he also sent more troops into Afghanistan. Wish I could change my vote.

You also seem to make up so called "facts" hoping they will fly or go unquestioned, just so you can build your argument. You think Carter giving a speech makes him a good president? There is more to being a good president than good speeches which we are all finding out with Obama.
reinhammer1 2 years ago
Carter put solar panles on the WH and preached clean energy although it was for economic reasons and not environmental. Reagan took then down and laughed. Denmark beneffited from Reagan back then while we chaseoil all over the middle east with wars and now Denmark is a world powerhouse in renewable energy and does not NEED OIL and it costs us BILLIONS with POLLUTION..Reagan raised taxes 7 times...sorry you are an fucking IDIOT!
livelovebe1970 2 years ago
I guess you just proved my point by getting all emotional and calling me a fucking idiot. I noticed you created some more so called "facts". What is your source? Reagan took down Carters solar panels? Where is your proof? All nonsense. Are you a young student or maybe you work for ACORN. I mean you are really out there.
reinhammer1 2 years ago
In 1976 the Danish public got behind an ambitious (and expensive) program to become entirely energy-independent, and, with the development of new, clean energy systems, to get out of the foreign oil business completely. So did Carter...but Reagan laughed and stopped it. The Danish are now a renewable energy powerhouse and do not rely on foreign oil at ALL after being 99% dependant on it. Carter was RIGHT...lets go fight a war....stupid Republicans!
livelovebe1970 2 years ago
Do you even know how effective solar panels were in 1979. They were a joke! I am all for renewable energy if it can be cost effective and actually work.

Carter the worst president ever? Really??? Worse than Nixon??? Worse than Hoover??? Worse than John Tyler who openly supported slavery?
I mean, come on, this is an incredibly hyperbolic statement for a senior member of the senate to make.
illxplicit07 2 years ago
when you look at Hoover, and Tyler your not really talking modern day, but worse than Nixon, yes. Carter was a disgrace and he was a one term president because the American decided the same.
ibbetsonusa 2 years ago
And it has cost us greatly as a nation.
illxplicit07 2 years ago
It's bad enough when you try to defend Carter, but when you start with the Bush lied stuff, you reduce yourself to a nutty liberal and that is where it's not worth my time. You can't talk to someone like that.
ibbetsonusa 2 years ago
you can't talk to somebody who first labels you a "nutty liberal", insults a veteran of the army by calling him "disgraceful", and then completely neglects to provide any substance..
secondly, it is possible, that bush did not know that george tenet was lying when he said "SLAM DUNK" about WMD's in Iraq. I mean, this was a lie. "slam dunk" means for sure. he wasn't sure, obviously. But, bush took us to war based on this. It has cost us greatly.
illxplicit07 2 years ago
Carter warned us about the dependence on oil. That the mission to free the hostages failed was not his fault. The military learned a valuable lesson from that mission and was thus ready for the first gulf war. Most of those that throw stones wave the flag never put themselves in harms way and are thus cowards.

Which is it?
illxplicit07 2 years ago

These issues are way over your head, so please, stop. your words are offensive.
illxplicit07 2 years ago
"Hero of the Jews" huh? - ok. Again, this is all in your head. So, you speak for all Jews then? If you are Jewish, and Pro-Israel, then you should be pretty pissed at Jimmy Carter. But you weren't even alive during his presidency let alone know anything about him. He is responsible for deposing the Shah of Iran in favor of madman Ayatollah Khomeini which ushered in a dominant era of Shariah law and caused the deaths of thousands. Now he's trying it again in N.Korea. The man is a monster.
haypenny 2 years ago
It is factually incorrect to say that Carter is responsible for Mohammed Reza Pahlevi's deposition. The people of Iran wanted him to be deposed. In fact, "news of the Shah's departure was greeted with mass celebrations across Iran"-BBC. If anything, Carter supported the will of the people. You seem to support right wing propaganda. Sean Hannity ver batim. its practically plagiarism.
illxplicit07 2 years ago
I'm sure they did celebrate - they wanted a theocracy, not a democracy. Unfortunately it threatened the rest of the world. Carter was OUR President and he put us, and Israel in jeopardy we still live with today. The threat of nuclear annihilation still looms over Israel. The will of the what kind of people -Jew hating,America hating maniacs who murder all who oppose them? Hannity? huh? You're only interested in hating conservatives, so you'll even defend a vehement anti-Semite; liberalism first.
haypenny 2 years ago
You still haven't explained how Carter put Isreal in "jeopardy".
Carter has only sought to bring both sides to the table. People like you only listen to one side, which causes the other side to resort to violence as the only way to be heard.

YES. I am aware of religion. And I am aware that there are verses in the Bible that clearly condone slavery. In particular within the book Leviticus. And these same verses were used to justify 400 years of American slavery.
However, the majority of the world is considered "Christian", and claim to abide by the Bible. And, most Christians would tell you they are against slavery.
illxplicit07 2 years ago
You're really off track now.And you avoided every single question I posed. The Bible doesn't say that Blacks are demons, it says 'Servants, obey your masters' - which is NOT an endorsement of slavery, but was used as such by slave owners. They were acting against the Bible, not for it.The Qur'an literally says to kill all infidels. 'Behead them where you meet them'.What about slavery in the rest of the world?Even today in Darfur slavery is encouraged by the Sudanese government. Care about that?

My guess is most of the commenters aren't old enough to remember what a complete and utter disaster that old fool was and is.
hum1021 2 years ago
Hey, idiot, what about George Bush? He started a war under false pretenses. How many people will die because of that? His administration also covered up the outing of a CIA agent. His father, in an unrelated thread, called this treason. Then Bush effectively pardons the man that lies and makes it impossible to convict anyone of this crime. And you say Carter was bad? Take your lips off the crack pipe.

Osama is not.

haha sour grapes McCain?

RonPaulGeorgeRingo 2 years ago

Exlor 2 years ago
We haven't had a real president in decades, and McCain is trash. Carter was the Trilateral Commissions puppet, just like Bill Clinton.
It shouldn't surprise any of us that he willing to sacrifice what little respect or integrity he had left on the alter of race baiting.
They are going for broke, and the people Carter works for and respects know exactly why he's willing to look like a clown. DIVIDE AND CONQUER.
Sorry possum eater. We see right through you.
FreedomsReigning 2 years ago
The eternally ridiculous Carter's latest outrage is to slander the majority of the American people, tens of millions of hard working and fair minded people, as racists. The vast majority of this tidal wave of opposition to President Obama exists because people profoundly disagree with his policies. Race is irrelevant. Massive government growth and power over individual liberty and sprinting away from the Constitution IS relevant. The left is playing the race card as was predicted by so many.
fredzepp1 2 years ago
I couldn't stand Carter, still can't. But I never thought for a moment that he was actively working against the best interests of the US on purpose. Misguided, perhaps. Incompetent, absolutely.
But Obama is making Jimmy look better and better. If only Jimmy would stop talking, he might move down to the number two spot.

There is no doubt that Carter is being an idiot, but calling him the worst president in history or even the 20th century is crazy. Carter had good energy policies, leveled with the American public (his best attribute), negotiated a long term peace between Egypt and Israel and appointed Volker when he really didn't want to, who turned out to be the best fed chairman probably ever, who ended the inflation and laid the foundation for the middle 80's growth.
christo930 2 years ago
Yeah, those great energy policies! Everyone lined up down the street and around the block because Carter was so bad ass.
meserostalking 2 years ago 3
I guess the problem in 72 was his fault too? Peak oil in the US in 1970 was his fault too? Carter created the DOE which may or may not have helped, but he created long term oil reduction strategies which did help, especially in the mid 80's. Oil use was plummeting while the economy was soaring. Of course, Reagan's abysmal energy policies started to take effect and oil usage soared toward the end of the 80's. Long term energy policies take time and that is why they showed up in the Reagan admin.
christo930 2 years ago
I'm a conservative and no fan of the Democrats, but if you can't give Carter credit for anything else, give him credit that he told Americans the truth. Nobody in modern politics will tell America the truth because they saw what we did to Carter. Inflation was out of control during Clinton and Bush, but they just lied about it. Oil peaked 4 years ago and no politician will talk about it. Carter said "we can't keep importing more and more oil. We need alternatives and conservation" paraphrasing,
christo930 2 years ago
Carter was the worse! Ask anyone that had to live through that time. It was terrible . He created so much economic hardship for so many folks. We lived on pancake mix for a month till I swallowed my pride and got food stamps. Sitting in a room with 60 souls and being told we had no job anymore. I can still hear the sobbing of some of the people. 18% interest rates on homes. I still remember the split screen Reagan getting swore in and the Iran hostages being released. Now that was a great day!
irisojects 2 years ago
I was also a boy during that time and things weren't bad in my house. My father grew up during the depression and things were good in his house during that time. The high interest rates and inflation was not caused by Carter, it was caused by all the inflationary spending in the 60's and early 70's (moon, great society, Vietnam..) and then made worse by Nixon closing the gold window. High interest rates, as painful as the were, saved the dollar and the economy.
christo930 2 years ago
I am glad things were fine in your house. Since my job counted on homes being built. The interest rates put the whole thing on its back. Carter was never empathetic to our situation. His poor leadership and lack of foreign policy magnified the problems. Never have I been so poor in my life it was a humbling experience. Obama could take us all back to that spot. It made an impression on me that I will never forget. Who would have thought a peanut farmer could cause such misery.
irisojects 2 years ago
To be honest, I don't know much about his foreign policy other than the fact that he facilitated a more or less permanent peace between Egypt and Israel, a feat nobody else has been able to do (help negotiate peace between Israel and an enemy of Israel).
I fear you are very right about Obama/Bernanke. They are making Bush/Greenspan look like amateurs. The dollar is dropping like a stone and they keep printing. $2T deficits and they want a big health care bill?
christo930 2 years ago
I hope I am wrong about Obama and the Fed too. I see a pattern of what happened in the 70's. Carter let Iran fall to the Ayatollahs. Who knows how many Persian,Chaldean and Jews lost their life and property to the take over by Islamic radicals. When the Shah fled Iran that was the end of stability for Iran. Women, Gays, Christians, and Jews now must live in fear in Iran. Thank you Pres. Carter
irisojects 2 years ago 3
How can you possibly blame the fall of a foreign government on a US president?
christo930 2 years ago
iris you do realize that under Reagan employment was a full 3% higher than under Carter? (7.8 for carter in July 1980 and 10.8 for reagan in November of 1982)
applepie1e 2 years ago
applepie I lived through the Carter years.I didn't take some class in college and be a useful idiot for a professor. Good riddance to Carter.
irisojects 2 years ago
Do you really think your experience, and those of a few families you knew is a good gauge of how good a president was historically? You may have done well under Reagan but more than 1 in 10 were unemployed.
Oh and that thing about idiot professors preaching against conservs is a tired cliche, I think you did better when you called me a retarded drug addict.
applepie1e 2 years ago
Wow, dumbass. In some states right now, 1 in 8 are unemployed. And that's just the people who are still looking. The real unemployment rate (the population who would take a job if one was offered to them, but have currently given up) is closer to 25%. The per capita income growth rate has completely stagnated. I don't give a shit about your politics, but you are provably wrong if you try to claim the economy was worse under Reagan.

Carter is on the list, but not the worst if you're looking at the big picture.
1. Wilson (Original Progressive)
2. Roosevelt 1 (Started the "Spread Democracy" campaign)
3. Roosevelt 2 (Continued where Wilson left off)
4. Carter (Hyper inflation, High unemployment, High taxes, Gas shortage, Terrorist sympathizer, Social justice advocate, etc.)
You can throw in Bush Jr., Nixon, LBJ, and Obama, where you see fit.
