  • @sawyer7271 what do you mix the lye with or does it come as a liquid

  • Rubber cement, then bleach. ;)

  • what is he dipping it into?

  • Here's how I've done it:

Drip some clear paint, nail polish, whatever. Then dip into a solution of Lye (Potassium Hydroxide) -- Nasty Stuff..

DPO-33-- YES, the lye eats the anodized layer off the part. The part is no longer protected by the anodized film.

To protect internal parts and mechanisms, you should avoid getting the lye inside the part as the anodized layer is much harder and more durable than non-anodized aluminum...

  • Yea, they're stripping the oxide back off. They'll have drawn or splashed some form of mask on the part; I'm guessing with a wax.

  • @lexichronicle2 correction, they are not stripping the anodize off, they are simply removing the dye form the oxide layer, the anodize is still there but the dye is gone, giving it a clear appearance

  • i could be wrong but wasn't that de-anodizing?

  • hey if i send you a paintball gun can you do this for me and send me how much it would be

  • Can you describe the process?

  • still dont understand this process, please make sum tuts if u did the anodizing urself. I would REALLY appriciate it bec i dont know how to get this effect

  • Were you using acid or bleach to de-color the part?

  • So that's how they make candy canes!
