Therefore he trapped Germany right in the middle of the battle crippling their defenses and causing even heavier casualties. The Western front only became a real problem when the USA entered the war at the end of 1941 long after he invaded Russia. Kursk was a diaster. The Russians knew months in advance what was going to happen. The breaking of the Enigma code allowed the allies to pass on full plans to Russians. The Russians had months to plan and fortify. Hitlers generals pleaded for him not to attack. Regardless of these obstacles the Germans fought well and inflicted massive damage on the USSR. However they were defeated and lost more troops and equipment that they just could not replace.

@CSRiddick The Soviets could never have *built* those tanks without US steel, or the Ford engines and motors that the US manufacturers sent over. The Lend Lease assistance we gave to the USSR was even more substantial than the aid we gave to Britain. Even the top Soviet general, Gregori Zhukov admitted that the Russian armies could never have held the Germans out of Moscow without the ammo and armor that America sent over. It is true, Most of the German's armored units were committed to the East, and their Armour was the backbone of their army, including air force, which I say again, were committed East. The US had trouble with a couple Tiger tanks, 5 shermans to 1 Tiger. Their superior numbers, T-34 tank, the Germans waited 3 months to attack the bulge at kurk, gave ample enought time for the Soviets to prepare very efective anti-tank trenches, so the germans could only advance in certain funnels wich the soviets had their artillery zeroed in. By time the germans broke that defensive line, they were exhausted and then comence the largest tank battle in history in which they lost.
If anyone thinks that all the German units in France 1944 were reserve units they prove they don't know anything about the situation. Many German reinforcing units including 8 Pz. Bdes. (they were too small, & a waste of equipment & manpower) were thrown into France, & the Luftwaffe Fortress MG Bns., Secuity units, Naval personnel, etc. were eventually absorbed into Divs. as replacements. There were a good number of Pak 43/41 & Flak 88's, along with arty. of which much was good Soviet pieces.

The battle at Prokhorovka as the largest tank battle in history is simply just a myth. Germans had 92-109 APV's and russians maximum 393 between 10.7-12.7.43 In fact, it is smaller than a battle that took place between the French and the Germans in 1940. In front of Gembloux on May 14-15, two full-strength Panzer divisions (each with about 300 tanks) squared off with two full-strength French Light Mechanized Divisions (each with about 260 tanks).
So my dear russians and other red army bandwagoners, please take under consideration what Zhukov really said. Without lend-lease USSR would have been totally helpless. And not just lend-lease, without the 2nd front (Battle of Atlantic), 3rd Front (Air War over Germany) and 4th front (N.Africa, Sicilia, Italy) heavy loss rate red army would have been in big, big trouble.

The US was standing for money and bombing cities when Germany was already lost (And ofc trying to earn as much money as possible and making sure that Soviet didnt progress too far). @MidReacted Germany had beat France and chased UK over the channel in a matter of weeks. He submitted two of the most powerful nations in the world. The Western front only became a real problem when the USA entered the war at the end of 1941 long after he invaded Russia. Kursk was a diaster. The Russians knew months in advance what was going to happen. The breaking of the Enigma code allowed the allies to pass on full plans to Russians. The Russians had months to plan and fortify. Hitlers generals pleaded for him not to attack. Regardless of these obstacles the Germans fought well and inflicted massive damage on the USSR. However they were defeated and lost more troops and equipment that they just could not replace.

It was basically just, if the person in front of you dies, pick up his gun and keep going, and they had enough men to do this for longer than Nazi Germany could retain it's power. the USSRs strength was in their numbers and size.

If Hitler had just let the German/soviet pact, that was signed before the war, stay as it was, and not invaded the USSR, it's very likely they would have won WW2. And as you say, the red army just kept on getting bigger. in the battle of kursk the red army lost more than twice what Nazi Germany (better equipped) lost, but there were just so many reinforcements that The Third Reich just didn't stand a chance.

In my opinion the Germans had superior tactics and weapons in many respects, even when fighting the Americans and Brits or Allies, and had some brilliant Generals and committed soldiers. Hitler was an imbecile who threw his Nation's sons on spears so to speak, and Russian soldiers literally sacrificed themselves in many cases like a kamikaze. In the end the Allies simply had numbers too great. Hitler declared war on America hoping Japan would help him, you see how that went.

@CSRiddick The Soviets could never have *built* those tanks without US steel, or the Ford engines and motors that the US manufacturers sent over. The Lend Lease assistance we gave to the USSR was even more substantial than the aid we gave to Britain. Even the top Soviet general, Gregori Zhukov admitted that the Russian armies could never have held the Germans out of Moscow without the ammo and armor that America sent over. One country couldn't have succeeded without the other.

@cybussful pearl harbor was a failed operation for Japan...the main targets where the 3 USA carriers but by chance those 3 carriers where not in the harbor at that time.Ironically those carriers played an important role in the battle of midway.If the carriers would've been sunked if they would've remained in the harbor...after that the next step for japan was panama canal to block reinforcements coming from the east coast==>end of story for USA in pacific

The most Criminal were the Nazis and the Japs. Combined, they killed 30-35 million civilians and ~5 million POW. Nazis were competent militarily, much more competent than Anglo-Americans, but by 1943 were surpassed by Soviet military. Japs militarily were crap from the beginning to the end, it's only that USA was crap too the reason for fighting so long the Japs. Soviets defeated Japs in 1938, 1939, 1945 without ANY problems. Soviets killed mostly Axis military and few civilians, Anglo-Americans mostly Axis civilians and few military. Strictly Militarily WW2==Eastern Front. Anglo-Americans are not clean too, they killed 2.5 million Axis civilians and only 0.7 million German military. In 1942-45 Soviets lost less soldiers on the Eastern Front (5.5 millions) than Axis (6.5 millions). 90% of the Axis forces in Europe were lost on the Eastern Front, by a loooong shot the most important Front of WW2. Without Soviets, Nazis would have beaten anglo-americans like chicken, and that infamous bombing campaign against german civilians would have been impossible. WW2 = Eastern Front

It is true, Most of the German's armored units were committed to the East, and their Armour was the backbone of their army, including air force, which I say again, were committed East. The US had trouble with a couple Tiger tanks, 5 shermans to 1 Tiger. Just imagine if you had to face thousands of them on the West Front, things would have been a whole lot harder for the US and Britain.

Their superior numbers, T-34 tank, the Germans waited 3 months to attack the bulge at kurk, gave ample enought time for the Soviets to prepare very efective anti-tank trenches, so the germans could only advance in certain funnels wich the soviets had their artillery zeroed in. By time the germans broke that defensive line, they were exhausted and then comence the largest tank battle in history in which they lost.

If anyone thinks that all the German units in France 1944 were reserve units they prove they don't know anything about the situation. Many German reinforcing units including 8 Pz. Bdes. (they were too small, & a waste of equipment & manpower) were thrown into France, & the Luftwaffe Fortress MG Bns., Secuity units, Naval personnel, etc. were eventually absorbed into Divs. as replacements. There were a good number of Pak 43/41 & Flak 88's, along with arty. of which much was good Soviet pieces.

WWII was large tragedy to many people, the hammer of megnificent German army hit the Soviet Union with unbelievbable strength. Despite the fact that great portion of Soviet land, military and civilians were literaly destroyed, soviet people under command of their leader Stalin were able not only stop this invasion, but hit back as hard as they possibly could. With allied forces it was like Spanish corrida: bull - the nazis, torero - Soviets and clowns who distract the bull - allied forces.

The battle at Prokhorovka as the largest tank battle in history is simply just a myth. Germans had 92-109 APV's and russians maximum 393 between 10.7-12.7.43 In fact, it is smaller than a battle that took place between the French and the Germans in 1940. In front of Gembloux on May 14-15, two full-strength Panzer divisions (each with about 300 tanks) squared off with two full-strength French Light Mechanized Divisions (each with about 260 tanks).

And not just lend-lease, without the 2nd front (Battle of Atlantic), 3rd Front (Air War over Germany) and 4th front (N.Africa, Sicilia, Italy) heavy loss rate red army would have been in big, big trouble.
Note: USSR 170 million people, Germany 83 million. If loss rate is worse than 1:2 Germany would have won. It was 1:3 or worse.

USSR received tremendous amounts of lend-lease and other forms of aid from the USA and Britain. Trucks, aircraft, American tanks, fuel oils, food, all was amply, even hugely provided to the Soviets and indeed saved them from destruction at the hands of the Germans—all contrary to the Stalinist myth that said aid was insignificant and played little or no role in the Red Army's defeat of the Wehrmacht.

The myth of Kursk has been surprisingly resilient. Some of this undoubtedly is due to how long it remained unchallenged. Powerful counterarguments have only been published in the last 10 years or so. Even these are somewhat inaccessible: since they've been published by specialty presses they have high price tags and do not show up on the average bookstore's shelves.

The Germans did not fail, however, due to a defeat at Prokhorovka. There was no "death ride of the panzers" on July 11 and 12. Nor was there a very big battle on those dates. It's time to put to rest the fanciful notions of waves of Tiger and Panther tanks riding across the dry, dusty plains to do battle with Soviet tanks at point-blank range.

Norman Davies has recently published a book to assess WWII from the vantage point of 60 years and his primary point is that it was the eastern front that witnessed the largest and most intense battles and that the key to the NAZI defeat was the Soviet victory at Kursk in 1943. He further observes that because of Soviet iron control of media the loathsome conduct of Stalin was not revealed in full until relatively recently and the militarily weaker West was easily duped by Stalin at wars end.

Re-combined remnants of half destroyed units, old men, kids and what could be spared from the real theatre in Russia. The greatest tiger ace was killed after he'd killed half of you. I am not surprised he got killed. Nothing but respect for all US soldiers, but the European war was won in Russia by Russia.

Anzio. Most of the best Germans had been deployed to repel that attack. They were withdrawn to defend against D-Day after the US finally got off that beach and headed to Rome.

Yep, the russians stood for something like 90% of the german military casualties in ww2. The US was standing for money and bombing cities when Germany was already lost (And ofc trying to earn as much money as possible and making sure that Soviet didnt progress too far). An old acquainted of mine (dead now) was fighting on the german side during the war. He said the strong and healthy soldiers were fighting on the east front. And when they needed rest they were sent to the west.

Inf divs, a few reserve Inf Divs that were reinforced & fully activated, & a good number of regular Inf Divs, ~130+ Tiger I & a few II, many AT Bns with mainly Pak41/43 88s & Flak 88 & Arty units, etc. etc. etc.
