man this new stuff is definitetly a leap from HttT, and i'm glad its not like The Eraser because it's not that new or revolutionary, but this stuff is definitely interesting!
As far as the drums go, this is to handle the live (early versions of the track). The studio version will be very different. After LP7 is released, the tour afterwards will feature yet another version. Every RH song has 3 phases: Live before album release - Album version - Post-album live version.
I actually feel more sorry for Phil than for Ed (who looks like he's playing equally as hard as Jonny). I mean, with Thom and Jonny taking over drums on several of the new songs, what's eventually going to happen to poor Phil? Are they going to make him play that stupid shaker like they do in "Everything in Its Right Place"? Unless, on the studio-version, there's some seriously interesting dual-drummer action, I'm going to assume that Thom and Jonny are just feeding their egos.
I wouldn't take it that far, really. I've actually been thinking about this lately, Phil is really under rated. The fact that Thom is on drums, I'd say it's just for originality.
I swear I've heard versions of this where Johnny plays drums instead of Thom...what diversity! Most drummers can't even drum this well! (i.e. Nickelback!)
ed plays guitar no more.. he just does the back up vocals in the new songs or little noises that are only a detail. poor ed he plays second guitar in every song except when thoms plays guitar too... in that case he plays the 3rd guitar.
Your post made absolutely no sense at all. ''Ed plays guitar no more...poor ed he plays second guitar in every song...in that case he plays the 3rd''. You lost me. This isn't a flame, I just want you to explain what you meant. I'm intesrested in knowning.
Yeah right now it doesnt sound great but at the end of the day these are recordings live done on some crappy camera phone or VCR or whatever... its guna sound huge when in a studio and when Phil is playing drums.
I dislike this song. The lyrics aren't great, Thom's drumming is unnecessary, The guitar is annoying + repetative and the whole song is kind of pointless.
This is on the new album.. there's a 2nd disc being released in December.

Thom drums now. There's more proof of why I love this man. To top it all off, he sings and drums at the same time.
