  • How does someone manage to do this? I've been hard on mine plenty of times and never had an issue. My guess is people put in mail order tunes or cheesy nitrous systems (without proper tuning) or other monkey shit, and then go HAMMER the shit out of it expecting miracles? Or maybe you neglect the shit out of it. I smell a little ignorance and stupidity in the air. And if you have blown it multiple times, that is definitely red flags against the operator, not the car.

That is a very immature, childlike comment, usually from a BOY at a PC his mom and dad bought him, still learning his fuck'n time tables. If you are 30-ish as your profile suggests, then WOW that is even worse! I digress, I doubt you know the first thing about the modular platform to begin with. Or do you? Share with us your view as to WHY a 4.6L is "slow as balls." Get down to brass tacks, let's hear your reasoning.

  • @9b8 I'll answer for him. Yes I know what the modular Ford 4.6/5.4 motors are. SOHC motors, pretty simple. Just weak and as well what was said are often "slow as balls" it takes some sort of forced induction for them to keep up with LS1's and or LT1's mod for mod. LS1's make 340-370 at the wheels with bolt-ons. Most 4.6 Mustangs don't do that with even a very costly top end kit. There are my few but mostly important reasons to say the 4.6 is "slow as balls"

Those are 5.7L engines on traditional OHV architecture (reusing over 50 years of traditional domestic engine knowledge)...they SHOULD lay down at least that much power, dip shit. The Mach1 4.6L also would do 350RWHP with "bolt ons" and w/o a S/C or nitrous, all with 1.1L LESS displacement than those 5.7L-based engines you speak of. A few even closer to 400RWHP. When you can distinguish the difference from an apple and an orange, then talk.

  • @9b8 I'm not understanding where your coming from. the question was why do you think the 4.6's are "slow as balls" and I have you a good reason. They are nowhere near an LSx engine. that was their competition. they failed pretty bad. No 4.6 engine was ever anything to worry about mod for mod except a F/I Cobra engine. It's more of comparing old technology to new technology. It took Ford sooo long to make a decent powered OHC motor. GM's been doing the pushrod thing forever and is better.

  • @187streetsoldier We see things on completely different planes. But, regarding GM's doing pushrods forever, you actually support my argument! GM had a go at a 4.6L DOHC V8, the Northstar, and they "failed" (mostly management). Their SAE HP numbers were right in line with Ford's DOHC offering, 290-320 HP. If Ford chose not to take on a WHOLE NEW architecture from scratch, sure they would pump out comparable OHV engines. Ford saw the light and took the smarter path and now GM is behind the curve.

  • @187streetsoldier The obvious proof of this, is Ford's very steady, conservative and incremental improvement of the modular design. Yes it took a few decades. So did OHV design, after the old flatheads were out. You could see the important milestones, too. The the Cobra R, the Ford GT, the early DOHC 4.6L NA Cobras (1998), the S/C Termi's, the aformentioned NA DOHC Mach1, the FR500C (racing), and now the Coyote 5.0L. Ford, though a perceived 'underdog,' they have STOMPED GM in net acheivement.

  • haha i had a 2000 SS but traded it fo my tahoe. Then i got a good deal on my mustang GT a couple years later. I spun the #4 at 124K. It has a fresh 30 over 4.6 now, still wont hold a candle to the old SS though, not even a good race. I have videos of them.
