  • The answer to the question: he buys a house for 12,000 an it deprecates by 10% per annum, what is the price in 3 years?

If you do: 12000x0.9^3 then you get 8748 as opposed to 9748!!

  • the second question correction;

    12000 / 10 = 1200. -----------10% of 12000

    1200 x 3 = 3600 ----------------30% of 12000

    12000 - 3600 = 8400 --------12000 - 30% value

motor home value after 10% reduction per annum after 3 years = [£8 400]

  • @EroTiiQMagiQz Sorry but your method is wrong. Yes I made a mistake at the end on the subtraction, as pointed out by a number of people ....... BUT the method is correct. Honest. mathstutor

  • @mathstutorbiz but isnt 12000 - 1200, Ans -1200, Ans - 1200 the same as 12000 - (1200 x 3) ?

  • @EroTiiQMagiQz Hard to explain in text. But this type of question needs the loss percentage to be worked out and subtracted each year, and the loss of the following year worked out on the new years value, NOT as you have done. Hope this helps

  • @mathstutorbiz oh ryt, safe

  • @mathstutorbiz is this edexcel or aqa?

  • @EroTiiQMagiQz All exam boards follow the same sillybus.

  • One of the answers is wrong:)

  • Thanks alot for that *Alot of help*

  • What type of question is the third one?>

  • I learned English from “fet system”

    I learned Economics from “tutor2u”

    I learned Math from “mathstutorbiz”

  • question 3. I WOULDNT OF KNOWN WHAT TO DO... this just saved me from messing up my exam tommorow :) thank you :)

  • @TheChloepumpkin You are welcome. Good luck for your exam. mathstutor

  • Okey man he did got q 2 wrong.. So what u dikheads... Atleast u get d damn idea on how to do it..

  • question 3 was really helpful, thankyou :)

  • 'you wouldn't want to get a question wrong because we can't subtract' hahaha its 8748...fail

  • he has got question 2 wrong its 8748 not 9748

  • Comment removed

  • Erm the answer is £8748.

  • im pritty sure at 6:22 you added 28 on instead of taking away 972? you have put 9720 -972 = 9748 ? thumbs up if you agree

  • You know what....... well done. Not many people would take the time or effort to make videos to help people with their education. YouTube and come to think of it, this country need more people like you. Thank you!

  • Lol wtf whats the point in marking it if you know youre jjust going to tick it?x

  • im from ireland doing the equivalent of a gsce called the junior cert and is this the stuff that actually comes up on it? i mean the junior cert is wayyyyyyy harder.

  • @mcphantic80 Appreciate, this is question 1, and then it gets harder, much harder!

  • @mcphantic80 GCSE Maths higher is a lot harder than this, for some reason he is showing D-C grade stuff for people expecting an A example.

  • @mcphantic80

I live in Ireland too. The GCSE's are harder but they do less subjects.

  • awesome ,,

  • lololololololoo you did question 2 wrong lololoo

  • Comment removed

  • @sadat417 No it is £8748. Yes I did make a mistake but sorry but you have too! Never mind. Check my last subtraction, careless of me.

  • the first part is point less all Calc work.

  • @168chanism but it is from a non calculator exam?!

  • Thanks for this :)

  • Yes, he got it wrong but this guy has been sooooo helpful to me in my preparation for my GCSE Maths exam so I forgive him! lol

  • this is really good i really needed this for my exzams soon

  • @ziggy561 Have you considered the website ExamFox? We do online GCSE Maths tuition and the first lesson is free.

  • his voice and accent is so annoying

  • HAHAHHA!! HE GOT IT WRONG!! LOL IT'S £8748.0 LOL. and he was telling us "be careful with you subtraction..."

  • hahaha I found this funny "alot of silly people get these questions wrong because they are not careful enough" and you get it completely wrong at the end ! its 8748! . i suggest you either remove this video or re-record it.

  • the answer for the motor home is wrong in the 3rd yr its 8748.

  • damn that dude fucked his motor home up

  • damn it!...my GCSE's are next week!

  • 1. iii looks like a + not /

  • Really Helpful.

  • great lesson but i didnt kno wat depriecate meant

  • Means for example when you buy a new car for £20.000, as you soon as you drive the car from the showroom, the car loses 10% of its value straight away and will be worth £18.000

  • This is awful. Really, you should either do the video again or pull it off YouTube. I have no confidence in your videos. It's not fair to get answers wrong for the kids.

  • for Q2 couldn't u just do

    1.10^3*12,000

    he?

  • did you try your method to see if you get the right answer??? (Appreciate that I got it wrong and the correct answer is £8748!!!!) mathstutor

  • for the 3rd yr for the motor home, its 8748

  • it doesn't increase 10% in value each year it DEPRECIATES.

    Therefore your workings should be:

    ((0.9^3)*12000)

However this could have been a non-calculator paper!

  • hey dude, you should CHECK your answers as well....

  • its 8748. thanks for the lesson. but its quite basic stuff tho. didnt really learn much.

  • this was good but for the 2nd question about depreciating 10% he got it wrong xD

LOL. but useful.. if you always got it right ;)

  • Thanks man!

  • Thank you so bloody much :D

  • Gee, thanks for this.. i really appreciate it :)

  • i`ve said it before and i`ll say it again i love u man

    thanks soooo much

  • i don't get it :S

  • Just use logic instead, 24 / 31 is obviously gunna be less than 1 so it must be 0.78, the same applys with the other 2 answers question one is either 24 , 244, OR 2449 when 7.8 is X by 31.4, its just a logical answer for it to be 244. Dont stress by learning a complicated on these easy questions just use a bit of logic, there always on the start of the higher paper, =]

  • yeah still dont get it lol it doesnt matter i'm never gonna be a maths person it would go against everything i stand for x

  • Hey i dont know how to say this but your answer is wrong for second queestion altough the method is correct the answer should be 8,748 not 9,748 :)

  • ye i was finkin that in question 2 lol...shud be 8748

  • yep, noticed that too :) He just said dont get it wrong and got it wrong him self :)

  • i am from northern ireland and i can't see how this is gcse level as i covered this about 3 years before that.

  • appreciate this is question 1, so yes, it would be expected that it can be answered as you say.

  • Good video, but he actually made a mistake in question 2. The answer should be 8748, not 9748 (after he said repeatedly to be careful about the subtraction!) : )

  • i need to ask a question and so can someone answear me:

on question ONE, how come on the 3rd sub question ie 24.492 / 31.4 he moved 31.4 to the whole number first? surely if he moved 24.492 to the whole number it would change the answear completely. go to 2.47.

  • I live on Benefits and need first class resources. As an Adult we are forced onto the margins of both FE and Higher Education as low status, marginalised etc merely because of natural processes. This is part of my fight back against inferior qaulity and academic slagging off of adults with regard to Boards, possibilities.

only the best will do no matter how basic.

  • this is really helpful !!!

  • omfg!

    THIS IS SOOOO HELPFUL!!

    THANK YOU SOOO MUCH!!

I NEED TO WATCH ALL UR VIDS, HOPE THERE IS MORE!!!!!

  • i got ma module one GCSE paper in 8.5 hours ROFL!

im gonna fail, its not mock, proper GCSE paper!

    shit....

  • how did you do? lol

  • well, considering after reading many, none of them wee the actual module lmao!! i had nothing to do, but to do it itself, and i did, i think i aced it! it seemed quite easy!

  • i really appreciate what you are doing but you have made a mistake on the second question...its answer should be £8,748...but this video is very helpful

  • This is awesome, thanks for sharing, this really helped! :)

  • you are more than welcome.... if you would like the full exam paper and video solutions, plus other stuff, visit mathstutorDOTbiz for details

  • for question 2, isnt £9720 - £972 = £8748?

    Because you said £9729-£972= £9748.

    Im really confused now :/

    Thanks for uploading this video!

  • sorry to confuse, I made a silly slip.

    mathstutor

  • oh for god sakes im year 10 if this is higher im gonna get A*************

  • well done u.

    mathstutor

  • i think question 2 is 8748 not 9748 but oh well

  • agree and I used a multiplier and checked with a calculator (in case!)

  • thanks for this its very helpful.

Its about forgetting the maths in the exam, it all goes... =S

  • oops on the intermediate sorry

  • where are questions 4-8? :S

  • omg got an exam tomoro. this helps loads

  • good luck

    mathstutor

  • You made my day after hours of reision, my Higher math paper is tomorrow and the motor home question was very funny and shows that you allways need to check your answers through even if your a teacher o/.

  • this is worrying

    i didnt notice the mistake

  • Please don't worry. The point why I left this video with the mistake is to make the very important point about "SHOW YOUR WORKING OUT". As long as you understood the question and my method, missing my silly slip is unimportant - honest!

    mathstutor

  • thank you I'm in year 10 and terrible at maths this is highly interesting and helpful.

  • Thank you very much for posting these videos, I find it easier to revise through media, i.e videos and sound, more than other methods.

    ~Quave

  • "a silly little question and a lot of people gotta get it wrong" lol yeah 9720-972=9748?? seems you're one of those people

  • that's me.

    mathstutor

  • well i dont care wat the others thing i know u made a mistake but am still a fan..:D..love ur teaching style and that ur even bothering 2 teach..we should b greatful 4 that even..:D..thankxooo

  • I appreciate your comment.

    mathstutor

  • I'm confused now for question 3 solving the equation I got a completely different answer, what I got was b = 2.5 because -15+5= -10 and -10÷4= 2.5, have I made an error?

  • Sorry you are confused. I'm sorry but the mistake is with you. Please listen and watch the video again, On the right hand side of the equations is -15, and then another 5 is subtracted. So on the right hand side there is -15 -5 = -20. Ok?

    mathstutor

  • last answer with the second question is wrong that is supposed to be 8748

    thank you

  • well at least you didn't swear at me about it like the comment below!!!

    mathstutor

  • realy helpful videos. just one point, where are the missing questions? e.g. part 1 covers Q1, Q2, Q3 then part 2 starts from Q8?

    thanks again

  • Pleased you find helpful. These clips are an introduction to all the available DVD's on my web site, mathstutorDOTboz That is where you find all the missing bits.

    mathstutor

  • i think its a good video and it has helped me

  • Thank you and good luck to you in your studies.

    mathstutor

  • dats fuckin wrong...where u get 9748 from; are you stupid like...your sayin be carful subtracting...silly little question..wdf!!..u cantt subtract yaaself..:S

  • well thank you for your observation and the clarity of your message. If you would care to read many others comments on the same point plus my reasoning for leaving the video clip I'm sure it will all be clear -- on the other hand -- I doubt it.

    mathstutor

  • some question u got wrong man check it again

  • ha ha i thought this was a good way of reaching out to people like myself to try and get good grades out of us and stuff until you got the question wrong!?!

  • you should remove the videos with mistakes...if people wernt reading the comments they could easily lose marks from your mistakes...all the other videos are good but this just kills it

  • that guy has completlu floped on question 2 it's 8748 not 9748. if you don't believe me check it on a calulator.

  • please PLEASE read other comments.

  • don't know where you got those crappy questions from i'm sitting my GCSEs in the up comming months [higher] that to me looks like the start of the higher paper mabye. more like the lower....get some surds and stuff on there then mabye. 1 star from me

  • The start of the higher paper IS the middle to end of the lower paper. Don't knock it. You make sure you get the "easy" questions right in your exam and gain the "easy" marks.

I have shown in question 2 how silly slips (and possibly a smart arse attitude) can loose marks!! mathstutor.

  • its 8478

  • True, please read all the other comments on this.

    mathstutor

  • supppppp G

  • the first question is just a simple thing of getting the decimal places right meaning it's an easy three marks but so many have been lost on students making mistakes you should always check your answer twice

  • Some of these GCSE mathematics video are really good, but the algebra and the very easy percentages question are both wrong.

You are giving students bad information.

  • please read the other comments and my replies, these points have already been covered................ mathstutor

  • this is fcking brillaint thanks for this

  • i thought i had got it wrong when you said it was £9748!

  • i noticed another mistake in this video: you said it depreciated by 10000!

  • oh dear...... bad hear ,sorry, hair day.... keep watching . mathstutor

  • stop getting mistakes

  • 9720 - 972 = 9748??? How can you minus an positive no. by another positive no. and get a bigger no.??????

  • please read my reply of 2 months ago....... I could remove this video clip, but I feel there is a valid learning point..... so clips stays, with the mistake and low video rating. mathstutor

  • yes I agree even if it wasn't intentional it proves the point that u will at least get a mark for showing your working out and besides this is better than reading any textbook

  • is this not illegal? well its an old paper so maybe not....

  • i once saw this question on my maths paper

For example, David Beckham takes a free kick by kicking a stationary football with a force of 40N. If the ball has a mass of 0.5kg and his foot is in contact with the ball for 0.1s calculate:

The change in momentum of the ball,

The speed the ball moves away with

    man this is blaitently sad

  • 9720-972=9748 ???? :S

Come on, I have done it on my fingers 5 times now, it is 50!

  • 9720 - 972 equals 8748, not 9748 in question 2?

  • This mistake was pointed out to me by one of my students, but I decided to leave it in. I did not mean to make the mistake, however, I feel it is a valid teaching point to show the importance of showing working out. If the answer was worth, say 4 marks, I would expect to be awarded 3 of the marks. I would only loose any "accuracy" marks. This is my standard reply to those who spot my silly error. I hope you agree with my reason for not correcting the error. David

  • yeah it does :~
